Bro to be blunt, im pretty sure he has the power/authority to sentence anyone who he think is suspicious. If he wanted Light prisoned or death sentence, L could easily request it. Literally presidents are sir like a dog and listen when they hear L’s name. Even the police suggests to L at times, why not just imprisoned Light since ur sure it’s him and no one else, we lose nothing. But L refuses, L was simply really just (justice). L was really confident to crack the case (which 100% he does win), but since no one would never be aware that these invisible shinigamis can easily kill anyone since they see anyone’s name.

This was a really interesting watch! I like that you mentioned psychology when talking about L's personality. I never thought about it, but covert narcissist fits L really well. I liked your analysis of L under the dark triad! Cool stuff. This is the first video I've seen from you, so I do have some criticism if you'd like some tips to improve. I liked the script, the flow was good, but the way you emphasize certain words is a bit distracting. I noticed you stopped and started a lot in sentences, and that was a little distracting. Not a huge deal, of course, but if you practice emphasizing a bit better then I think your videos will flow a lot better. (For example, here's a random sentence I made up. The bold words are the ones you emphasize when you say it. "L suspects *that* Light *is* Kira." "L *suspects* that *Light* is *Kira* ." Which one sounds better when you say it out loud?) Short answer no.. 1) kira is an insane mass murderer and drastic action by L was the only way to end it 2) politically people felt threatened by kira 3) L was the greatest detective ever and was pretty much an employee of the worlds police agencies which makes him above the entire Japanese police force so goos luck arresting him 4) since L is an employee of multiple countries japans laws and legal system may not fully apply since he is an outside foreign party. 5) even if nothing else i say matters L is still the most infleuncial and rich detective ever so he can easily use his connections to bribe or pay his way out. 6) L can just simply disappear into a new airtight fake identity and new life so good luck catching him 7) finally if you can defeat the last 6 reasons. L cant go to jail because he dies right before he can close the case. And you can't arrest someone whos already dead lol...

Where do you interpret L showing sincere empathy from? I legitimately cannot see it--every panel of L's speech reads as though he says whatever's most moral and legally appropriate in order to manipulate others, not alieniating them. I'd be willing to change my mind, maybe I'm overly-cynical.

L and Light were both willing to sacrifice people but in much, much different ways. Light simply did not care about anyone at all. He killed some of his most loyal supporters like Takada without blinking even once and would have killed his sister Sayu if not for the fact that only the SPK and the task force knew about the kidnapping. He doesn't just risk people's lives, he actively plans to dispose of them as soon as they've outlived their usefulness. L on the other hand doesn't outright sacrifice people, he just risks them and he informs them about the risk. Lind L Tailor was about to be executed anyway and L would have cancelled his execution if Light didn't kill him. Plus, he outright states "I never thought it would actually happen". The FBI agents were meant to keep their identities hidden no matter what. L had no way of anticipating that Light could get their names, so he fully expected the investigation to go without casualties. He wants to let Kira kill people to gather evidence because if they catch the wrong guy, Kira will continue killing anyway (he doesn't say this outright but it's very logical). And when he wants to test the 13 day rule, he fully expects it to be fake, so again, he expects the criminal to survive, in which case he awards the criminal by cancelling the execution. In this sense, L is definitely far less evil than Light. He doesn't toss people aside and he actively informs them of the risks they are taking. He never goes through with an action if he knows for a fact that someone will end up dead. As opposed to Light, who actively planned around killing Takada
