Great video Kyle, but unless he is wearing spanx so the skin is close enough that the mosquito could probe through, the clothing alone would reduce the available surface area the mosquitos have to an area too small to drain a person of enough blood to incapacitate said person.
They absolutely can. He is the strongest hero in the world, not person. His powers are useless when not against a villain, and that is what the mosquito scene shows
But Kyle, you're forgetting the most important part! The folk in anime have an absolutely humongous amount of blood, how else are they going to rocket off after a nosebleed? /s
Hey Kyle, love the show. Buh if you look at the clip of the man being swarmed by mosquitoes, you can see that they are circling around him meaning not all the mosquitoes are on his skin at the same time. What I’m trying to get at is that the mosquitoes already on his skin can suck his blood then as soon as they are done sucking, they go airborne and the ones that are already airborne can replace the ones that just got done sucking. Kinda like how a shift change/rotation would work at a job or something.
RexiRexx87 another idea is that the mosquitos were a hive mind bred for the purpose of sucking a maximum amount of blood from organisms and at the greatest possible rate so that they could more efficiently feed their queen. We have to remember that this villain was bred in the house of evolution to be the pinnacle of genetic augmentation in her class so combined with what Rex said it seems totally plausible
but that would make the blood draining process slower. as he said, the mosquitoes don't start sucking blood immediately after it gets onto the target. so either way it doesn't work like the anime.
BUT, the mosquitoes also seem to act like a sort of hive mind controlled by mosquito girl, allowing the possibility for them to communicate blood vessel location to each other, dramatically cutting down on the time taken to find these veins after the first wave. This however does not solve the problem that after probably around stage two to three of blood loss mosquitoes would not be able to find a filled vein anywhere one proboscis length (as far as i can tell from measuring the diagram here "en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosquito#/media/File:Culex_pipiens_diagram_en.svg", ~16% of their body length) below the skin.
Great episode, as usual. Quick question. If you could mind control mosquitoes, wouldn't it be more efficient to just use a few dozen of them to clog up a person's airways? Having your nose and throat filled with skeeters and dying in panicked suffocation seems like a far creepier way to die than rapid blood loss and shock. Maybe that's just me
@@mpr746 No, I get that. You missed my point. The question he's asking is about how many mosquitoes it would take to drain you dry. In the hypothetical Kyle puts together, that takes a while, and multiple feedings. If you suffocate your victim they aren't going anywhere, and the skeeters have time to drain the body and deliver their payload a few times before the body would cool. Insects are even pretty good at packing tightly enough to block up a persons airways without sustaining significant casualties. At least compared to the losses sustained while their victim thrashed around on the ground while completely covered in multiple waves of mosquitoes. It's about efficiency and conservation of resources.
Kyle is an alien! Stay with me people. Let’s go through this step by step and I’ll, not only prove to you that Kyle is an alien, but he is a Protoss. What do you think this talk about his hair is all about? Is perfect golden hair. He keeps saying “oh this is genetics”. Right… The color of his hair is just a physical representation of his origins and keeps I’m connected with his true identity. As you know, Protoss use a golden armor to protect their bodies, so his hair is just a reflection of what he used to wear and that’s why he is so attached to it, keeping him focused on his mission. How does he keep teleporting in almost every episode? Protoss armor is typically equipped with a complex teleportation mechanism that can detect, for example, when its wearer is grievously injured and automatically teleports the warrior to the nearest safe haven. Somehow his air has retained some of the properties and abilities of the armor. Why do you think he keeps talking about space? Because it reminds him of his past life before coming to earth to study humans. This fascination with space is the same thing we call homesick. He misses his life in space exploration. The Expanse. Do I really have to talk about why he wants to be in The Expanse? That’s his only opportunity to relive his past life. That’s the closest he can get on earth to what he used to be. Even if it’s only a pretend thing. That’s how badly he wants it. #PutKyleonTheExpanse He keeps referring to us as having squishy human bodies. Human body? Why is that? Why this fascination with the human physic? He is just imposing is superiority when comparing is armored body with ours, while he studies every part of the squishy human body. Every part. How come must of the episodes are about super powers, super heroes, movies, etc.? Not only he is studying our biology, he is also studying our culture and the way we project things that we would like to be or be able to do in creations of our culture. He is constructing a global psychological profile of humans. Cats. I didn’t want to go here. He keeps talking about cats and how much he likes them. Why? ALF anyone? Am I the only one seeing this? He eats the god forsaken cats. Stop eating our pets, you beautiful Thor wannabe. Now let’s talk about “Nate”. The occasional voice of the Void “Nate”. As in Nate Kenyon? The author of StarCraft: Ghost Spectres? Coincidence? Right… Believe what you want. I bet this “Nate” keeps telling “Kyle” off camera that he needs to construct additional pylons. The Void. The most important proof of all. This is where he exists. He keeps telling us that his in a void. He doesn’t know how he can breathe... But he does. He speaks to us from a void. As in the Void that appears to bear a breathable atmosphere to creatures of the material universe? The Void whom has borne its own lifeforms? Kyle is definitely a creature of the Void. That’s how his able to live and sustain himself in that infinite nothingness. Nailed it. Kyle is an alien. Ps. Checkout my tiny tiny channel… and if I disappear, you know who did it.
Well, that was horrifying. I have to wonder what weird effects that much anticoagulant in your body (particularly from the leeches) would have on the survivability.
I was thinking the same. People already get allergic reactions to mosquitoes - little red bumps. Thousands of allergic reactions at once, even small ones, can't be a good thing.
That would cause severe bleeding for sure, Imagine rat poison overdose. But I do think allergic reaction may not occur, since the time for the immune system to work is too short.
The anticoagulant won't deal any damage to you until you...take damage. Wounds would not close up, meaning even the smallest of scratches could become life threatening, as you will potentially bleed out. However, the size of the wound would still determine how much time that would take. A small wound, though bleeding indefinitely, would likely take so long to bleed you out that the anti-coagulant would wear off before it happens. If you remain unwounded though, you would essentially be no different. It doesn't increase your heart rate or anything, but simply shuts down your coagulative abilities. However, due to the secondary effect: Blood vessel expansion, one would have reduced blood pressure and thus become somewhat more sluggish. However, vessel expansion does not cause a large difference in blood pressure, since the heart rate remains the same. So that isn't a threat.
Hi Kyle! Love the show! I think(with my 12th grade brain) that it would be quite hard for the mosquitoes to drain that much of blood because: Firstly, it would be quite hard for them to get under the clothes of a person and even if they do they would be squished and therefore not effective... Secondly, the blood vessels that the mosquitoes have access to are the capillary (the smallest ones) which can not carry that much blood and therefore the mosquitoes cant be deadly... you dont believe me... at some point, the skin of a person can carry up to 1L of blood ( only the best case scenario when you are calm, and the internal organs dont need that much blood) but (as you said) around 40% of the 4.5L you used for calculation is 1.8L. So imagine this scenario - the unfortunate guy is swarmed by mosquitoes (that magically get under the clothes ), he is terrified and therefore his blood is rushed by the nervous system and hormones to the important internal organs (for survival) but the aggressive mosquitoes keep sucking the blood out of the capillary so fast that they get all of it out, before the blood pressure can pump blood through those tiny vessels. Once the evil insects feel the lack of blood to suck, they will fly away. The partial necrosis of the blood I believe could be reversed at some point! One alternative way for a swarm of tiny flying insects to try kill a person would be for them to rush in the nose and throat of the victim and by this way suffocate him to death!!! Quite the creepy, scary shit! Have a nice day, Kyle!
In the end, when you said you were leaving something important out of the equation, I thought you´d mention that the guy would have to be completely naked in order for the mosquitoes to cover him...
@@Bubben246 His hero clothes or whatever you wanna call it can resist nuclear fission and also gamma ray burst, but I dunno. Maybe the mosquitos are just that powerful.
Even without pathogens, I don't think it would take this many mosquitoes to kill a person. Most people have an allergic reaction trying to fight off the residue left behind by a mosquito bite - that's why you get a red bump. If thousands of mosquitoes bit someone at once, I suspect the allergic reaction could be fatal on its own.
The mosquitos biting the neck and face would be the most dangerous. But even then it would take a while, depending on your particular sensitivity to their saliva.
Maybe it is true that the ticks and leeches would be more effective in sucking blood. However, the problem is their slow movement which is where mosquitos have an advantage. Anyway! I thought of this topic to be too quite simple and can be done in less than 5 minutes. But not considering the laughs you keep on adding, you are able to make the show more detailed and interesting. I like this channel because you keep on making things complicated in a fun and amazing way! I've learned a lot and also get to brag the things I learn here! Thank you!
There is one more reason why death by mosquito swarm wouldn't be too pleasant: the ITCHING. Imagine being swarmed by mosquitoes, unable to swat them because there are too many, aware that you're going to have all your blood sucked in a few minutes, and _on top of that_ your whole skin itches horribly.
Recent is only this season. So anything coming out now, or if it has finished from the summer season is recent. If you are a true weeb that is. *rethinking life choices*
@@mandickthetittysmithy5117 well in his universe he’s Japanese like almost every anime character but he’s larger than our average Japanese man in our universe
Couldn't mosquitos (mosquitoes?) work in "batches"? Like, drain blood in 3 rounds 33% each over the course of a few seconds/minutes? There seems to be enough mosquitos (mosquitoes?) for that
I also thought they could just take turns, not even batches, but as soon as one is full, another could take its place. I guess Kyle will say something like "yeah, I thought of that but it complicated the calculations to much" or "I was trying to be faithful to what we see in the anime as much as possible" on the footnotes episode.
actually that might be what is happening in the anime if you look at the clip you can see that there are als some of the mosquitos just flying around the person and not all are sitting on the person. sure it might just be some effekts to make it look like its in motion because of how animes are made and because it looks way more dramatic but it might work :D
Wouldn't "Stop Drop and Roll" be a good defense against this? I mean, even if you can brush just your hands over your arms and legs you can take out hundreds/thousands of misquitos per second, before most of them could begin sucking. And once you're covered in dead mosquito and blood goo, you effectively shielded your skin, blood loss rate goes down to almost zero, while your killing rate remains constant, because mosquitos are just too squishy.
Maybe ... assuming a mosquito bite's numbing saliva doesn't do more than just numb the skin when multiplied by millions or even just thousands of near simultaneous dosages... IIRC, Unlike the irritation that comes afterward, the numbing saliva goes in as soon as they bite.
I googeld the average weight of a mosquito and assuming that 4,500,000 mosquitoes land on you they could weigh up to 45kg (one mosquito weighs anywhere from 2.5-10mg).
I did the same thing. I was wondering if you'd be crushed to death by the mosquitoes. Seems not, but it would not be comfortable. The funny thing is though, the weight would probably cause you to drop to the ground, killing thousands of them in the process.
ONE PUUUUUNCH!!! We also have to remember that Mosquito Girl is genetically modified, so it stands to reason that her Mosquitos are also genetically modified to suck a higher volume of blood in a shorter time.
It's so ironic that you uploaded this today because I just finished a project for my math class where I had to figure out how many mosquitoes it would take to cover every human body at my school, and how much in total would be extracted. But that was a couple of days ago, but still thank you for this video. I did use that scene where that guy got drained in my presentation
My favourite part of One Punch Man is when they're fighting that huge fellow in that lab and One Punch is like "omg I forgot the sale" and Genos just gives up and goes with it and says "If we hurry we can still make it" and just leaves that guy there
hmm something I think you didn't consider is that the mosquitoes might not need to search inside the skin for blood if the villain controlling them has a good enough knowledge of human anatomy to be able to control them to get straight to the blood vessel thus reducing the time it takes. another thing you might not have considered it that someone getting covered by mosquitoes might start panicking causing their heart rate to increase thus not only reducing the time the blood suckers need to completely drain you but also potentially causing the blood to keep flowing enough for them to completely drain you.
No believe it or not people's blood vessels are different in depth size and location only major blood vessels are basically the same the smaller things are quite different
Mosquitoes are not really after major blood vessels, these are branching out locally into ever smaller-caliber vessels down to the capillaries. Ms would only need to hit one of those
I'm fairly certain that a mosquito proboscis would not be able to penetrate deeply enough to reach most major blood vessels. Even if they could, it wouldn't really be a good idea for them to do so -- the pressure in arteries is higher than that in capillaries, and would _at least_ make it difficult for the mosquito to drink, if not outright causing harm to the mosquito. Veins would presumably be safe, since they have even lower pressure than capillaries, but IIRC they have thicker walls than capillaries and therefore might be difficult for the mosquitoes to penetrate.
Judging by the last cut where Kyle punched a mosquito like one punch man we can easily come to the conclusion that the void is somewhere on earth. It seemed somewhere north on the planet judging by where the sun is and since the land mass he was on seemed kind of thin one could draw the conclusion that it’s somewhere in greenland. Although there should be land mass somewhere to the left of that and it only shows ocean meaning either this is a planet very much so similar to Earth but with different continental plates, they forgot to draw in more land, it is in fact not Greenland, or worst of all just a very poorly drawn Earth for a 5 second gag at the end of the video. I would like to think it was my first conclusion however because that is a lot more fun.
That would increase the available space for mosquitoes and in turn speed up the draining process. It would depend on how much of the inner area were used to determine by how much.
Kyle has proven himself the Master of Research. There's no study he can't find and cite. (But, still. That doesn't mean he will just cite any study. He's the hero we need.)
not only does the saliva prevent blood from clodding, the nasty itch you'Re going to have all over oyur body is going to drive oyu mad to point of scratching your own skin off, opening up even more bleeding wounds.
Would it even be possible for a mosquito to bite the One Punch Man? Dude is pretty damn tough, to a point we haven't seen him take a scratch. I doubt the mosquito's proboscis could pierce his epidermis. Unless it was thin enough to slide past the cells/atoms, but that is another story.
Hey Kyle Great..... and gross episode :) :P We can turn up the gross factor a bit. In The Mummy, with Brendan Fraser, they "pour" a large amount of flesh eating bugs in with Imhotep. Would there be an amount of those bugs that could actually strip a human body, clean right down to the bone, in that confined space? Take Care and Be Well
On the North Slope in Alaska, death by blood loss by mosquito is actually plausible. I know of one woman who went outside drunk without appropriate protection and had to be medivaced out within 10 minutes.
Apparently in the attic caribou can be killed by blood draw by mosquitoes if they wander off the ice patches for two long in the spring. You don't need to drain all the blood to kill you.
On the subject of genetic engineering and malaria: scientists have actually engineered mosquitos to not carry certain diseases (though I forget which ones). They actually realise thousands into the wild to go breed with normal mosquitos. The children are actually immune to those diseases too. It is ridiculously difficult to engineer a cure for malaria though. It would also take a ton of time and effort to release enough GE mosquitos to make a large difference.
I think that - apart from being unnecessary - the mosquitoes probably couldn't even drain all your blood. At some point, the blood pressure in your body would be so low (mainly because of blood loss and your heart giving up after you died), that no blood would be pushed within the reach of the mosquitoes. Not sure when that would happen, but I could imagine it being somewhere between 1/3 and 1/4. Not that you'd survive because of that, but you'd simply... Be a little more prepared for embalming? I don't know. You're dead so to you it would make no difference whatsoever.
Yeah, sorry, my bad. I started thinking about this halfway through, and because of that failed to see the ending. I did catch myself thinking it's odd you didn't do an ending this time, but for some reason did not check whether I hadn't just missed it. I do think, though, that the mosquitoes will be able to drink at least until you're dead, simply because until you die, your heart will be beating and thus sending blood to places where the mosquitoes can reach it.
Another interesting note While not instantaneous, far fewer mosquitos are needed as they stop the blood from clotting you would lose more blood once they leave
I was wondering how far i would scroll until i saw a comment saying this. I thought the exact same. He hit the moon woth the force he did. And didnt even get a scratch. Nothing would be able to pierce his skin
Loved the video! There is something you forgot to account for. The study you used only uses values for external area. The density of mosquitoes needed drops pretty drastically if you consider the internal areas they'd be able to get into, such as the ears, nose mouth and other "unfortunate" areas. Asphyxiation from the large amounts of mosquitoes invading your throat and potentially lungs would probably end up killing you faster than the blood loss. If a human were to stumble across a swarm of mosquitos in the hundreds of thousands that happened to be extremely aggressive, it's very plausible the encounter would be fatal in real life.
MrFun the body usually only produces blood at a rate of 0,034 mililiters a minute, in case of extreme blood loss it could theoretically increase its production rate up to 4 times its normal rate but it would still only be 0,13 mililiters a minute. This rate of production would be negligeable when you consider a rate of blood loss on the scale of liters per minute, so i gess it would be unimportant to factor that into the result.
Also... As you said... Mosquitoes releases various substances that prevent clotting and "open up" veins and other vascular structures... I think the grade IV shock would come a lot faster than with 40 % of your blood sucked. The "container" gets bigger so you need more pressure to make it work. Aaaaaaand there's also a very big chance you'd enter in anaphylactoid shock with the amount of bites...
Proud of myself for sitting through this episode without having to leave, normally quite squeemish about this whole medical blood science kind of talk. Guess my fascination with the topic outweighed the empathic nausea I get from talking about this kind of stuff. Its kinda funny to learn about how a mosquito proboscis actually works too, considering I've had thoughts about anthro mosquito people for a D&D campaign, and I had their nose-proboscises curl up when not in use, but turns out 'art' imitates life without even realizing it :D
Nah, that was a rumor from Yonkouproductions, and even then you mixed it up. He said 1 episode in August 2018, then the rest in 2020. Then the trailer revealed April 2019... with no word about splitting the season.
One thing you forgot to take into account is that in that scene the mosquitos don’t stay one the guy. they land drain then jump off so size of the mosquito really wouldn’t matter so she could use a bigger mosquito and drain much faster.
Hi Kyle, great episode as always! One thing you might be missing is that the mosquitoes could invade the victim's cavities (such as ears, eyes, mouth etc). This way the total area is increased and the pressure problem is partially solved as they can find blood in internal parts of the body where it is stored in larger quantities than the skin. In addition, we can see in the video that the victim has no eyes at all after the attack!
great Vid as always. I was just wondering about the effect (the mummification) the man experienced after he lost his "blood". if we only consider, that he lost 4.5 L blood, I do not think the effect of it would have been so severe. IMO the show either wants us to think, that mosquitoes actually drained the man from liquid (including water) not from only his blood. or they just made a mistake and thought the effect of drained blood would have been the same as Imhotep kiss from the Mummy.
It would be very close, but it is a bit exaggerated since it's an anime. Blood contains a very large amount of water in the body, so while not all the water would be gone, it would still be a significant amount
Have to disagree. Kyle even states here, that blood is about 5 L/kg in human body. I have been hiking one day, 50 km in 2 days and have climbed 2 km up hill. due to hot weather, I have lost 7 kg of my weight of water and i was nowhere near the mummy level skinny (as it is in the anime) draining 5 L liquid from the body will not cause that drastic decrease in body mass (granted after 2 days of normal lifestyle, I have regained my lost 7 kgs of mass back)
Hey i love your stuff and i have a few questions 1. Is there a pane of glass in front of you 2. Do you write backwards And just to clarify i am mostly talking about the live episodes because you use editing in the main so i dont know what is real and what is editing. And the reason i found you was from game theory, matpat talked about your channel in his thanos epsiode about his gauntlet
The drop in blood pressure mentioned at the end would come even quicker due to the histamine released in reaction to all those mosquito bites. It causes your blood vessels to dilate which would lower your blood pressure. That would be compounded by the leaking of plasma and leukocytes from the blood stream into other tissues, further dropping pressure.
Even the idea of millions of mosquitoes on my body makes me gag, this would be the most excruciating death imaginable. The last minutes of your life would just be hopelessly fighting of millions of mosquitoe, only to die as a lifeless corpse on the ground
Also one thing to consider. Mosquito Girl is a high class monster. It is entirely possible the swarm of mosquitoes she commands have been mutated to monster mosquitoes, capable of draining blood equal to a leech.
Doing some very rough maths here, given an average adult circulating volume of about 5L of blood, approximately 30% is in the arterial system and 70% in the venous one. The volumes in the arterial system are the ones that have the biggest impact on your blood pressure. The venous system can expand and constrict itself to work around most volume losses so it's much better able to deal with you hemorrhaging blood. The estimated amount that you can lose by bleeding out before you die is about 2L. However, because the venous system works off mechanical independant pumps that aren't centrally controlled and the system's elastic properties, you'll still continue to bleed for a while after this. The 2L lost to kill number is based on the estimated minimum oxygenated blood. If we take what's left (3L) and split that as per location (900mL/2.1L) and add the venous volumes as these are what the mosquitos are drawing, we find that despite the mosquitos having already killed you by draining you of 2L, they could go on to drain another 2.1L after your heart gave out due to a lack of oxygenated blood. Approximately.
When you were pretending to go thru the stages of shock, it was giving me bad ptsd and I had a panic attack so bad that it was hard for me to breathe... cuz I ruptured my spleen, and I was bleeding out for 3.5 hours before I got operated on and for them to fill me back up with blood, I needed 3 bags of blood back to back, just to make up for the loss of blood that blead into my organs and gut. I needed 3 operations cuz the 1st two weren’t a success. Worst months of my life... and I had to relive it because you were pretending to pass out from blood loss...
One thing to note about mosquitos: in Alaska, mosquito swarms are so large they can cause a herd of reindeer to essentially go crazy, running around like mad to escape.
First of all. A mosquito can never penetrate Saitamas skin because nothing can. Secondly I couldn't pay attention to everything you were saying, because that mosquito is so annoying
Honestly I don't think that after 30 seconds of being covered by millions of mosquitoes your heartbeat would be normal because I'd be in absolute PANIC
