The problem is they are not accurate. Any good lawyer could have the violation thrown out of court. I live in a town where they put one of those cameras up but they had a problem with the light cycling from green to yellow to red in a flash of an eye. I believe in driving safely but they need to keep the system itself honest.
My experience with red light cameras in Baytown, Texas is that the Baytown police officers sign off on a three second yellow. 1 1/2 second to realize the yellow and 1 1/2 second to press the brake pedal and you get photo graphed. Texas STATE Law says a five second yellow. A SIX SECOND YELLOW IF YOU ARE REALLY WANTING TO BE SAFE INSTEAD OF REVENUE GENERATION.
If you receive a ticket the mail, don’t respond to it. If someone wearing professional attire knocks on your door, don’t answer because it’s likely a process server. Under Arizona law, they can’t prove that you received the ticket until you acknowledge it.
Yup they need something to slow them down. Between the red light runners and the Tailgaters, It's dangerous to go anywhere. Do they not teach it's dangerous to follow so close ??? On way to work is 20 min drive I get at least 2-3 bumper huggers when there is cars in front of me I can't drive threw them ! I never see one Cop ever so ya put the camera's back in......
This is about money not safety. If some one wants to or is going to run a red light, they will. When did we agree that cameras can stand in for traffic officers? I didn't vote for it. Why all the surveillance? Speed cameras should not be up either.
It is the length of the yellow lamp. Baytown, Dayton, Texas cameras were three seconds long. State Law says five, six would be safer, if it's safety you are after and not revenue. Years ago in Monument, Colorado, the state police were using a heli COP ter to catch speeders. A truck driver told the ground cop it was illegal for him to write the ticket. The helicopter officer had to land and write the speeding ticket.
