Could the Pixel 8 be Your ONLY CAMERA for YouTube?

In this video, I'm testing out the Google Pixel 8's cameras to find out whether it could be your only camera for creating content for RU-vid. We test out if it's good for a-roll and b-roll, if you can create good quality thumbnails with it, if it's microphones are good enough for recording voiceovers, what the experience of transferring files to your computer is like, and if the Pixel 8 could be used for livestreaming.

I love my pixel. Software is great, photos are great. But switching from iPhone to Pixel, first thing I realised when it comes to video, iPhones are way better. Even the non pros out of box are great. I'll choose that

Yup, I agree that iPhones are definitely better for video! I was pleasantly surprised with the results from the main camera on the Pixel 8 though, despite not having much flexibility over the settings!

I would appreciate a short video on using the 8a, should you have the time. I know the whole discussion about grabbing the Pixel 8 is just a few dollars more but the 8a is just gonna be more budget. Can content creation get just as good with an older camera setup but current gen image processing?

ultrawide video is very grainy, when you look at sides. Have you ever tried Astrophotography mode on Pixel when you travel ? It's amazing. You probably need a tripod tho because hand shakes when considering what's the timer you set.

Yeah, there is a huge difference between the main camera and the ultrawide! The main camera is super sharp and had no issues with noise whereas the Ultrawide is grainy and quite soft apart from in the perfect lighting. I haven't tried the Astrophotography mode to be fair, but I have heard it works really well! And yeah, I imagine a tripod would get you the best results. Would adding extra storage via sd card plugged into the usbc port work for extra storage?

Possibly, but it would be a pain in the arse to carry that around all the time haha. You can definitely do that on iPhone though! I think you'd have to rig it up so that having the adaptor wasn't hanging off the USB-C port the whole time, and you'd have to use a Bluetooth mic too I think!

Do you have access to Moment lenses? If so, can you use it with recording on the pixel?

I don't have access to any Moment lenses I'm afraid, but they do make a case for the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro about would allow you to use their lenses: www.shopmoment.com/products/moment-case-for-pixel-8-pro-compatible-with-magsafe?variant=47464330723643&tab=features. When shooting in 4k hdr it adds sidebars and the video is narrow and in and not full screen. Do you know why? nevermind I was in portrait mode I guess

Can you recommend this device for videography, I want to take videos but don't have money to buy camera. Do you recommend to me this device? And if yes, should I buy some accesories like filters or lens, gimbal... For a cinematic video?

I think you can get better results with the iPhone 15 Pro for video tbh, so I would recommend that if you can afford the extra cost. However, Blackmagic just released their Blackmagic Camera App for Android and it's great! Gives you a lot more flexibility over your Pixel 8's camera settings so you can get the results you want. I'm gutted it wasn't out in time for me making this video, but it's cool! If you are going to get a phone to do videography, I'd recommend buying the phone itself first and seeing what you can create with that before buying accessories. Only buy accessories when you have actually identified the need for them otherwise you might end up just wasting money on something you never use again (I am guilty of this myself!). Idk, just log format and big sensor seems enough for a "pro grade camera". Pixel 8 has slightly smaller size 1/1.31 compared to iPhone's 1/1.28, but it's still no big deal. But Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Oppo Find X7 Ultra with large sensors on 75 mm lenses are just the next level when you want yo have small grip and clear optical blur

If you want the best camera then the Pixel 8 Pro is the obvious choice as the Ultrawide should be better on there, and you get the additional telephoto lens too. However, if you value the small size more, you should probably go for the Pixel 8... hope that helps 😁
