Hey, I'm Arran and I live in Scotland! On this channel I look at tech, with a focus on video creation and cameras. Feel free to subscribe - you're always welcome!
I've never been so disappointed in an Android phone in my life than my experience with the Google Pixel it was nothing but buggy hot mess..traded it for an older LG G8 and i could not be happier
Pixel 8a green and white one unlocked is currently $309 on amazon Us. Don't know how the hell it dropped that low and also checked for if it is renewed or not but brand new. Absolute bargain
Because I've never used the S23, I can't give you a complete answer but I would recommend you watch this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tFWFm6ktxkQ.htmlsi=_RmXjXQ6-HI8bFhh. I created it specifically to test the Pixel 8 out for content creation in everything except video editing. I think it's worth watching that and seeing for yourself whether the Pixel 8 meets your needs for it. If it does, go for that. If not, I'd recommend doing some more research on the S23 as I imagine there will be similar videos out there on the S23! I hope this helps 🙂
Good question - if you value cameras then the Pixel 8 Pro is going to give you that extra telephoto so will likely be better in that respect. However, if you care about the size of the phone at all, and prefer a smaller phone then the Pixel 9 is going to be the better option with the 6.3" screen as opposed to the 6.7" screen on the 8 Pro. Hope this helps!
I agree that it's not good enough yet - it's not useful enough to make it a key selling point for a phone. Hopefully in the next year or so it becomes more useful! However, I have found some good use cases for it, just not enough!
I have Realme 8 (cheap 2021 Q1 phone) and I also experienced infinite feed loading and apps not responding to touch that could only be resolved with restarting the app. This could be overall Android problem
Just to note cheap option 1 A7 mk1 TT urn it into a DSlR and a LA-EA 4 plus some dirt cheap Minolta A series Glass £15 50mm F1.7 £ 18 28mmF2.8 £10 28-80 F3.5 £22 79-210 F4.5 Plus a Sony to Minolta hotshoe adapter £13 plus a Minolta 5600 HS-D £25 So cheap but that Minolta glass is so sharp
If you specifically want an improved fingerprint sensor, then the Pixel 9's is a lot better than the previous Pixels. It's substantially more accurate and quick in my experience!
Just got mine today, switched from Oneplus 10.. only real missing is the app lock & clone/parallel app build natively to oneplus phones, doesn’t seem to have those in pixel phones.. hope they add that in android 15..
Ok i got a great deal then, got the pixel 9 256GB for 629 on Google fi.. Always loved the smoothness of the UI and the already great features without AI..
I'd personally go Pixel 8, but mainly from a perspective of it having USB-C over lightning on the iPhone 14! Plus with the Pixel 8, you get the excellent 120Hz display, whereas iPhone 14 is still stuck with a 60Hz display, which is disappointing! Hope this helps 🙂
Damn just switching from pixel 7 pro to pixel 8, as I broke my pixel 7 pro screen and if google pays me 282 euros for the pixel 7 pro I can get the pixel 8 for 277 euros. The screen repair costs 289 euros so I feel its a good deal. But with this video I am sad that all issues mentioned here is also on the pixel 7 pro. so not much has changed.
I think it's still a good deal! And hopefully you won't encounter some of the issues that I did with the Pixel 8! I think I got unlucky with the camera focus issue, for example!
I feel like you might not have watched the whole video haha 😅. I praise the phone in conclusion as I've really enjoyed my experience with it, but would you rather I left out any problems I had and you went and bought it and experienced any of the same problems I had? I have to maintain integrity as a reviewer, and that means covering the good as well as the bad so that someone who is buying the phone has a full picture of the kind of experience they could have with it, and very importantly, anything that could be a dealbreaker or ruin the experience completely for them. If I only covered the good, it wouldn't be a review. Hope this helps clarify.
@mattymurdo4134 haha, well I don't know what to say to be fair - I literally start the video by saying that I wanted to focus on any potential dealbreakers because that is what someone needs to know about before they buy the phone, but if you don't watch the complete video, then you won't get the conclusion or overall message 😅
It really depends whether you prefer Android or iPhone, but I would personally go for the Pixel 8 for the 120Hz screen and the fact you can probably find it for hundreds of dollars cheaper than the iPhone. Hope this helps!
Oh yeah, that's an excellent price for the 8! You got yourself a great deal there 😁 thanks so much for the kind comments and I'm really glad to hear the video helped you! 🙌
is it okay to buy pixel 8/128 in which is made in India series for $350? Here avg temp is around 35 degrees. I have also bought google charger for the phone. waiting for the reply. thank you.
I've not used the Pixel 8 is those kind of conditions I'm afraid, so I can't comment on how it will perform but I think there will only be a chance of overheating when you are doing heavy tasks like using the camera for an extended period of time or gaming. I've personally not experienced overheating but you may do in hotter environments as I know some commenters who have experienced overheating! I hope this helps!
I would go for the Pixel 8 as you get software and security updates until 2030 as opposed to 2025 with the Pixel 7 Pro! It will keep the phone feeling newer for longer! Hope this helps.
No, I haven't had any issues with overheating. The phone gets warm but it's never overheated. I'm not in a warm climate though, so if you are you may have a different experience!
Not in my Pixel 8! And my wife has now been using it for another 5 months after I made this review and she hasn't seen any issues with this on the display! 🙂
I'm confident it doesn't I'm afraid - it doesn't mention anything about the laser autofocus on the tech specs of the Pixel 8a on Google's website, whereas it specifically mentions this as a feature ('Single-zone LDAF (laser detect auto-focus) sensor') against the 8. Also, you can actually see the laser module in between the two cameras on the Pixel 8, whereas this isn't present on the 8a. Hope this helps clarify!
Hey , i will get pixel 8 @385$ should i go for it ? Actually i want a phone which can handle multiple apps in a ram at same time. I don't gaming usually, heard negative reviews on multiple social platform,I currently used poco f1. I'm from India
Yeah, the Pixel 8 can handle multitasking with no issues! I think $385 is a great price for this phone, so I would definitely recommend it for that price! Hope this helps 🙂
can we shoot 50mp photos now I mean is pro mode now available in camera of pixel 8???? because @ launch there was no pro mode for the camera you can't shoot 50mp photos
Nope, still limited to 12.5MP unfortunately. I highly doubt they’ll ever bring the ‘Pro’ camera mode to the regular 8/9 because it’s one way they can differentiate between the two phones!
Great review! I currently have the Pixel 7 and the major issue I have with the phone is self dimming screen when the phone gets warm. When out in the sun on summer day the phone is basically useless b/c it dims the screen so much, and there is no way to retain brightness, even disabling adaptive brightness. I understand that this process is built into the operating system to help preserve the life of the phone, but it makes the phone unusable at times. Any feedback on the 8a and its use on hot, sunny days?
Thank you! I’m afraid being based in Scotland hasn’t really given me much experience of warm sunny days, even though I was using the 8a during some of our warmest months 😅 but I don’t remember encountering any issues with the screen dimming! It’s likely Google still does the same with the 8a to preserve the long-term health of the phone, but I imagine your experience will really depend on how hot your climate is. The hottest it really got here this year was about 25ºC, so it’s not really comparable to warmer climates!
Great review! I found this video after specifically searching for long term reviews of the Pixel 8. I bought mine a few weeks after launch and have been using it daily since then. I've never encountered any of the glitches you mention in this video, but I experienced a bunch of new ones. The biggest problem is with the screen: after 8 months of use, it started to occasionally flicker with a green tint. Also the bottom of the screen near the charging port would get burning hot. The issue remained, and eventually a white vertical line appeared and stayed, rendering the phone difficult to use. This is a known issue with Pixels and is now covered by warranty, so at least there's that. Still, it's annoying to have this happen on a flagship phone just months after using it. Some other minor problems persist with Spotify, where it would stop the playback when the phone is locked, which is naturally very annoying. Also there were multiple times the phone just didn't react to any touches until I locked and unlocked it again. I can live with these minor software bugs, but the hardware failures are disappointing to say the least. I just send my phone in to repair and I hope to be able to use it for years on end without these issues. I love the camera, I actually use some of the Photo AI Features and using Android on Pixel is a great experience after coming from a bloated Samsung phone. Thank you for sharing your experience, I think there's great value in having an unbiased opinion.
I'm waiting on my pixel 9( porcelain 256GB) I got from Google fi for 649.. gonna sell my s24+, i prefer the smoothness of the pixel UI over the snappy ONE UI and Samsung is terrible with updates
Can u please say what should I pick pixel 8 256 or s23 256. I don't game. Just do some basic task and wants a 1 day battery phone. And I would use it for 3-5 years
I would probably say the Pixel 8 to be honest as the S23 is going to get software updates until 2027, but the Pixel 8 is going to get them until 2030, so that's a big difference. That should also keep your phone feeling fresh for longer! They are both really nice phones though, but I personally prefer Pixel OS over OneUI. Hope this helps!
I'd recommend you watch my other video on using the Pixel 8 for RU-vid/video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tFWFm6ktxkQ.html. The camera is good and the phone tends to work well for multitasking, so I hope you enjoy it 🙂
It's still there - certainly a hardware issue. It won't be in the majority of Pixel 8s based on the wealth of comments on this video - I think I just got unlucky.
Honestly, the way you speak about iPhone’s makes me question all of your videos. I’ve had iPhones, Pixels, Galaxies, etc and EVERY iPhone I have owned has been riddled with annoying day-to-day issues. Apps not working, keyboard not showing up, “No space” despite having space, slow, unintuitive, and then dies after 2 years or so. Everything else I have owned has never let me down that poorly. Even as I opened up youtube to write this comment on my iPhone it wouldn’t let me go back to bring up the navigation panel. Speaking of iPhones like they are a globally superior product is so weird.
The only reason I say those things is due to my experience with my other Apple products (iPad/Mac) where I haven't really had many issues at all, and I've also not heard a lot of negative things about the iPhone in general. I'm absolutely not saying they are 'superior' to any other product, but there are things that iPhones do better than Android, and things that Android/Pixels do better than iPhones - I try to remain impartial and objective in my videos, so you're welcome to trust me or not, but I approach every video with as much objectivity as possible. Plus, I can only get my hands on so many phones to test, so I'm not going to get everything right all of the time. I do appreciate your feedback about your experience with iPhone Vs other phones your use though, so thanks for sharing!
Great review. I've always been an Android user, with my current phone a Nokia 7+. I've had it for over 4 years, so think I need a change. I'd been looking at the Pixel phones, but have seen a couple of RU-vidrs state that Pixels are aimed more for USA based customers, as you mentioned too. That's put me off. The bloatware on Samsung phones seems to be a problem, although having never used a Samsung phone, I'm not really sure why. Having never had an Apple phone, I've just received a hand-me-down iPhone 12 from my wife and the camera on it is far better than on my Nokia .. maybe it's time for me to change from Android to Apple. Regards from Whitley Bay
Thanks, Brian! Yes, it's a bit of a pain with Google making so many of the features so exclusive to the US. However, I think Apple also limits a few features to the US too, but not nearly to the extent of Google. I think the fact you've tried an iPhone and you've enjoyed it suggests that it may suit you better than Android, but Pixel OS is very nice. I think the main problem with iPhones is that they cost so much when compared to the Android competition. Hope this helps!
i used iphone 13 for several months now, and realized i hate ios. Just want to ask which camera is better, 8a or 13? and should i switch my 13 to this? thank you
If you hate iOS, then I reckon the camera will be either similar or better on the 8a than the 13, so it's probably worth making the switch as Pixel OS is really nice in my opinion. I've been really pleased with the cameras on the 8a, so I'm sure you would be too! Hope this helps.
Much the same with other non-mainstream Asian countries. Our governments also put huge import taxes to support local businesses, which is nice, but that means that for stuff like this, a $500 phone becomes a $900 phone.
Hello, I'm coming from a google pixel 4a. I absolutely love it, but it is on its last leg and probably has a few days or weeks left due to battery issues. Would you recommend google pixel 7a, 8a, or 8? Or something else?
If you can afford a Pixel 8, then I'd recommend going for that! If you can push to the Pixel 9 then I'd recommend going for that if you can get it on sale - it's better in my experience than the phones you listed, particularly from a battery standpoint and some other aspects like the fingerprint sensor. I hope this helps!
