I like to think that Voldemort had the sorting hat, not the sword when he went to Godric’s Hollow. Can you imagine how having a piece of Voldemort’s soul would impact those songs and how the hat would talk to the students?! 😂
It’s an interesting thought but he’d have had to break into Hogwarts and take it from Dumbledore’s office. And if he did get his hands on it, I don’t think they’d ever use it again.

There is an actual potential loophole here: Would the sword become a Horcrux, or would it just absorb Voldemort's power? Because remember, it doesn't now have a supply of Basilisk venom inside it, it has the qualities of basilisk venom. So the question is, would the sword become a Horcrux, or would it simply 'eat' the piece of soul and take in Voldemort's power? Or would it perhaps just absorb the power of a Horcrux? IE, so long as Voldemort and his horcruxes exist, the sword can't be destroyed?
Yes something more like this makes sense to me, the sword isn't a basilisk, it's just poisonous, it wouldn't be a horcrux it just might be able to posses and control people somewhat or make them extra angry, but that isn't always a good thing so it would need control over it. If the sword was a full on horcrux then the sword would be weakened in some ways
Yeah. I don't see why becoming a horcrux makes it stronger. How many people/monsters have been killed (or at least stabbed) by the sword in it's centuries-long history? Were all of their souls absorbed by the sword? All of their powers? If Godric Gryffindor killed some evil wizard back in the day, that doesn't mean the sword gains the power to use magic on its own. Likewise, if you used the sword to destroy a broom, that doesn't necessarily give the sword the ability to fly. It seems to me that the most important inherent quality of the sword is to present itself to a worthy Gryffindor in time of need. If it was made to house a piece of Voldy's soul, it becomes a corrupt and reviled thing. Worthy Gryffindors would consider it an abomination, much like the Grey Lady did with the diadem, once it had been made into a horcrux. I'd say that would make the sword weaker. It would no longer inspire the pride and courage and love of Gryffindor.
I love the idea that as Voldemort would only be applying around 5% of his hugely diminished souls into the horcrux, the sword would just think, eww, such a small piece of soul is nothing more than “mundane filth” and I’m not having it!! 😂😂 #VoldyGoneMouldy
That's not true in terms of each splitting of your soul splitting your soul in half. Your soul is either always in an equal-sized number of pieces (I.E. a three-part soul means your soul is in equal thirds, but if you split it again each piece is an equal quarter of the whole), or a specific amount is split off each time, for example every time you split your soul it splits off an eighth of the original amount.
Presumably goblin smiths have a way to melt down their own products. I feel like it would have turned into a side quest into goblin smithing methods and we probably would have met a super awesome goblin smith side character.
They probably would have had to cast it into a volcano, but that would have been too on the nose of a Tolkien reference, even considering that the Ring was functionally Sauron's horcrux anyway.
I was gonna say, until there's something concrete about how Goblin made items are actually crafted and enchanted, I feel like we're missing a big chunk of the equation.
I was also going to comment that goblin made steel can probably be destroyed by goblin magic of some kind or technique, and if that fails I bet house elf magic would work, or some other manner of magical beast magic that defies wizards rules
@@Civilian08 i had that idea too, but wouldnt that heat make the sword stronger too, so the sword would stay at the bottom of the volcano (maybe sinking to the center of the earth), but then again, every worthy gryffondor would then be able to magically take it back (guess kill every gryffondor solves that)

There are people who think that Gryffindor built the headmasters office, Slytherin built his Chamber Of Secrets, Hufflepuf built the Kitchens, and Ravenclaw built the Room of Requirements.
The room of requirement looks more like hufflepuff magic than ravenclaw. It appears to whoever need it, regardless of any notion of worthiness or blood. I kinda remember dobby being able to find it, but I'm not sure
I always thought of it as that the horcruxes, as much as they do definitely imbue power, they also change the original purpose of of the object: a diary is for writing in confidentiality, but instead it is used for manipulation and also hidden away a ring is for wearing but once it became a horcrux the Gaunt ring cannot be worn without inflicting harm and is hidden away a locket is for keeping loved ones close to your heart, but instead it is used to manipulate people a cup is to be put on display for all to see as it shows pride in ones accomplishment, but once it is a horcrux, it is locked away in a vault and hidden a diadem is to be worn, it shows beauty and wealth and is there to be displayed on someone's head, but it is hidden (to be fair, it was hidden before it became a horcrux however this still doesn't contradict my original statement) snakes are meant to be wild and live of small mammals such as rats, but once a horcrux, Nagini begins to get more aggressive and gains an appetite for humans Harry was meant to live a full ordinary life (for a wizard), but the horcrux changed him, made him a parseltongue, made him different and changed his entire life. This change, would surely cause the sword of Gryffindor to reject the horcrux as its primary purpose is to become a more powerful sword, and becoming a horcrux would prevent it from being a sword even if it made it more powerful also, the vast majority of the power which a horcrux imbues is defensive and a sword is an offensive weapon, so whatever defensive measures the horcrux may imbue, it would not become a more powerful sword.
I have a head canon that trying to turn the sword into a Horcrux is what repelled the killing curse from Harry and reflected the piece of soul onto him instead. The protection from love was never powerful enough to block the curse, it just prevented Voldemort from touching Harry. Even in the graveyard, Voldemort just says "I could not touch the boy” when he is describing the magic of Lily's sacrifice. The head canon is even more elaborate but the rest of it is purely just my speculation on the details
Something else that shows up when you need it most: The Room of Requirement, also known as The Come And Go Room. Not specific to Gryffindors, but ABLE TO CONTAIN FIENDFYRE! Is that a characteristic of the entirety of Hogwarts Castle, or was it just a necessity that the Room needed to fulfill? And yes, Diablo 2!!!
Probably not, as the as the Diadem of Ravenclaw was described as being a tarnished silver, so it's not made of goblin silver. Meaning it is not goblin silver like the Sword of Gryffindor. Goblin silver swords would probably reflect the horcrux spell.
Goblin silver repels mundane dirt. Perhaps it became tarnished in becoming a Horcrux, ie a magical dirtiness. In truth I don't actually think goblin silver can become a horcrux either, I am just postulating a possible way for it to be both tarnished and goblin wrought.
Fawks? No, no, the sword was used to stab the Room of Requirement, it was fully an accident, you see, a first year got spooked and thought he was going to die while getting sorted and popped a sword out of the sorting hat and then went flailing about the school until the room or requirement showed up.

I don't think the sword chooses "worthy" or generically powerful things to absorb, I think the sword absorbs traits that would make it more powerful as a sword and repls the rest. A soul would not give any benefits to a sword, so I think it would repel a horcrux. But this makes me wonder: Why did the sword not keep the flame it was forged in? Do goblins not use fire to shape their metals?
Attempts to throw swordcrux into the veil. Swordcrux being sentient with the horcruxs inate ability to defend itself at all times uses the swords ability to teleport to preserve itself
Voldemort Damage X: enchanted item/creature fires X bolts of green light out after every attack damaging nearby structures and killing targets, but somehow only those that are within hitting distance.
I think that a generic goblin-made sword might have been able to be made into a horcrux; however, i doubt that the act of creating a horcrux would in any way be compatible with the ideals of courage, valour, and chivalry that gryffindor upholds.
can I just say that a tv show revolving around the sword itself would be amazing. just like 45 min episodes of people from Gryffindor living in the wizarding world and then finding themselves in some form of mortal danger that the sword would be useful in and then them either being saved or not by that sword presenting itself. but built in a fashion of individual short stories rather than a larger interconnected story line.
When they destroyed the locket there was some kind of illusion taunting Ron and trying to break his moral. So your idea seems plausible. It could become a Voldemort nightmare projector.

WAIT HOLD ON If Voldemort succeeded in making the sword a horcrux, and Harry still killed the basilisk with the sword so it’s impregnated with basilisk venom, would it be still be able to kill another horcrux?
Hmmm... But the horcrux is only killed if the container is broken and if the sword is broken it wouldn't be able to allow itself to be imbibed with the venom. So that could only work if the timing is juuuust right.
Yup. Swordcrux would be stronger, sword would absorb venom as we saw and get abiliti to destroy horcruxes i dont think that they got enough will power to do sth about (there is no descritpion of them changing container only that they can repair it)
I should think the fact that the sword can randomly teleport into the hands of people who are likely to want to destroy anything associated with Voldemort or the Dark Arts would make it the worst item Voldemort could possibly turn into a horcrux, so it's just as well that it never became one.
Keep in mind it's arguably. Also, the only time they dueled, Albus was master of the Elder Wand. So it's actually possible Voldemort was the better wizard, Dumbledore was just getting a buff.
True. Only problem would maybe be if the sword was somehow immune to getting melted down because of some spell or other power that it had absorbed throughout its use in al the years Gryffindor had it, and after.
@@anacvetko5865 But the goblins have worked with this metal forever, they would still know how it works and if that's possible or how to get around it. They believe everything they make still belongs to them, the only reason they don't have the sword is because Griffindor was so stubborn. So I'm sure they've worked through all manner of situations, doesn't matter what the sword has absorbed, if the sword is a horcrux then the goblins are the best equiped to handle the situation or at the very least find a solution. There has to be a weakness to this metal and I bet it's something only they know and no one else would figure out.
Is there a hidden Mickey on your couch with the two Luxo balls and Cap’s shield? Or am I just seeing things? It’s highly possible I’m just seeing things lol
But what about the cup, I bet it was goblin forged and it got destroyed by the basilisk venom. That being said the biggest problem is that the sword just disappears and McGonagall says that vanished objects go "into non-being, which is to say, everything" meaning that likely the sword just disappears and becomes part of everything so Harry would have to perform some sort of act to even summon it in the first place.
I’d love that and two other things: marauders through 1st wizarding war and then movies /series based on the other schools: Japanese wizards, Beauxbatons, African wizards omggg

My immediate thought was: Absorbing a piece of someone's soul wouldn't make it more powerful. Actually, it would make it more vulnerable because it would increase the risk of someone trying to destroy it.
About Avada Kedavra, I think it might work on the sword. The spell means something to the effect of “let the thing be destroyed” (in Latin I think), so it’s not exclusively a killing curse. We saw in Voldemort and Dumbledore’s duel at the Ministry that Avada Kedavra can destroy non living things. The golden centaur was shattered, and a desk got set on fire by the curse. And unlike basilisk venom and feindfyre, Avada Kedavra has no counter other than a sacrifice (Phoenix tears for basilisk venom, and feindfyre has a counter curse). Other than sacrificial love, no known magic can block, divert, or otherwise stop the killing curse. That includes being absorbed.
More so my own theory but theres not to my knowledge a magic creature in hp that can survive it but if there is it maybe possible to defend against the curse
Thank you for putting this debate to rest in my house. My son and i were discussing what the horcrux he was intending to make that night could have been. He (my son) was convinced it was the sword and i had said "no" because it vanishes when someone who is not worthy tries to use it. I had suggested that Gryffindor had other artifacts (maybe buried with him there at Godrics Hollow) because after all he'd left the sorting hat too. I guess though.... He wouldn't be trying to use it per say, just spell it. So yeah, that works.
The room of requirement kinda sorta fits the 'only appears when you need it most' category, just with the added caveat that you need to either know exactly how to let it know you need it, or happen to be pacing back and forth right in front of it thinking about how badly you need a thing
@@jessebensen3569 I’m in middle school and on zoom everyone’s always muted some teachers let you turn off your camera some don’t it depends how strict they are. The class I was going to was Spanish and my teacher is super strict. So camera has to be on or you’ll be marked absent.
headcanon: when the sword of gryffindor vanishes, it goes to godric's grave in godric's hollow (previous scb theory) and pops in its earbuds and listens to "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" until it has to be called away again
The sword having similar powers to Fawkes aligns nicely with the Albus is a descendent of Godric theory. And just doubles up on the “appears when a Gryffindor(Dumbledore) is in great need” lines we have got about the sword and phoenixes. Just treat ‘Gryffindor’ both as a family name, and then it works for both house and blood relatives.
I think there must be a magical way to destroy goblin steel that never comes up in the book. Something like this is so powerful it probably requires a lot of power to create, but I don't think we've seen anything that is literally undestroyable in the magic world, just a lot of things that are hard to destroy or that don't need to be destroyed.
You guys should make a video about how the heck magical paintings and photos work. Do they work under the same principle? How sentient are they? How freely can they travel? Are all the paintings (or photos) of one person connected (like the painting at Dumbledore's brother place being connected to the painting in Hogwarts)? What is the limitation of this or how much could this be abused if we apply the rules given?
We don't (and never will) know the secret process of forming a horcrux in addition to the necessary murder. That process may involve something that the sword wouldn't be receptive to, or something that strengthens the sword in a way that otherwise prevents it from becoming a horcrux.
Excellent video guys!! I have a request though: could you guys do a series of hp rankings? Anything from characters to books would be very much appreciated. Really enjoy the channel!
I had an idea a few years ago, and I've always wondered if it would work in the HP universe. 1) Get over 200 phoenix feathers (or dragon heartstring or whatever, but phoenix works best in this example) 2) Enchant them to protect them from corrosion or digestion. 3) Use magic to put one inside every bone in your body. You are now a living wand. Actually, you are over 200 living wands. You Can not be disarmed. You might also gain the immortality of the phoenix (hence that example).
1) Every House relic has unique powers. 2) The Sword of Godric Gryffindor, without the enchantment to find a worthy Gryffindor, is a "regular" Goblin-wrought sword. 3) Therefore, it had to get an upgrade.
Its not possible to make the sword a horcrux because the sword can be used only when it is needed. Unworthy griphook stole it, so it automatically disappeared after some time. So basically if Tom initiated a process of horcrux creation, the sword would just disappear away. The sword is enchanted with very very powerful ancient magic of Godric and skills of goblins, so it's quite uncontrollable by Tom.
I've seen that too, but I actually really love the alternate version posted by "tsorin" = Lucy as Gryffindor (Aslan: "If you were any braver, you'd be a lioness."); Susan as Slytherin (tsorin: "... fights w/ words and tradition before she picks up her bow... uses her charm and her wit to make your desires align w/ hers."); Edmund as Ravenclaw (tsorin: "... learned... to stop & think before casting judgment... who evaluates before he acts."); Peter as Hufflepuff (tsorin: "... tried to be Father to keep his family together... stood up to the White Which to protect his brother who had just betrayed him... who felt... he had betrayed Narnia & its people by coming back to England.")
I just rewatched the first movie and noticed a fairly large plot hole, if Prof Quirrel/Voldemort knew about Snape screwing with his curses and plans, wouldn’t Voldemort be fairly upset with Snape for sinkhole handedly stopping his whole plan?
Well isn’t that talked about in half blood prince? Snake talks about how he first tried to look if Harry could been an more powerful dark lord. And Snape also didn’t have an way to know it was Voldemort. So that could be an excuse. Also most death eaters where bad underlining when he was weaken and Snape gave great information when he got back to Voldy so he got an point up. It’s complicated
I've seen your video and it's a pretty good theory, but I just thought of a great big hole in the proposition. Voldemort knew a worthy Gryffindor could draw the sword to him ... which is why he would never choose the sword to be a horcrux. He'd never be able to protect it because the next time a Gryffindor needed it ... it would go to him and he'd lose it. Not only that, but most of his greatest enemies were in Gryffindor house. He'd be sending one of his most powerful and secret weapons directly into the hands of his enemies to use against him.

I think a Dementor would be able to "clean" an Horcrux, even the Sword of Griffindor. I mean whit his kiss is it able to rip out an Soul from an person, the real question is, if it is able to rip out an soul from an objekt and "clean" an Horcrux.
Now that you mention its power to appear to those who need it most I am reminded of the room of requirement displaying similar properties. Perhaps the room was added secretly by Godric Griffindor as his own version of the chamber of secrets. My theory is that Gryffindor found out that Slytherin had planned for his heir to use whatever he put in the chamber to wipe out anyone with impure blood and so secretly built the room of requirement using the same charm that allowed his sword to present itself to those in need and specifically designed it with the ability to counteract anything that could possibly be found in the chamber of secrets.

Do you guys think that you could make a theory on the origin of the trigger words for The Winter Soldier, because I'm sure there is something behind them... 🤔
I have a good question for you to do a theory on. What happened to Voldemort's body after the killing spell rebounded on him? The killing spell kills, but leaves the body undamaged, and unmarked. Anyone else that was hit with the killing spell, their body was still there. Why wasn't Voldemort's body found in the wreckage like James and Lilly's were?
So, on the topic of "The horcrux inside Harry wasn't affected when he got stabbed by the basilisk fang, because he didnt die", because it did not threatening the safety of the soul, could it be reasoned that Fawkes didnt come to Harry's aid because he needed him, but more for the fact that Dumbledore needed him alive for the rest of his plan to play out, so sent Fawkes at the right time to save him? Also, going on from that theory, does that mean that Dumbledore was sat watching the Harry/Tom Riddle fight (popcorn optional) to see how it plays out, like some passive observer?
Olivander showing what a true Ravenclaw is in that one scene. #itsaneagle #ijustheardmydogfartanditwasascuteasheis #poms4lyfe #ohyeahandRavenclawsarethebeesknees
I have two questions I would love to see theories on. The first is what if Harry's wand only chose him because the phoenix feather recognises Voldemort's soul in Harry? In which case should it still work for him after Harry is no longer a horcrux as Voldemort no longer lives in him? The second is the effects of the other horcruxes that were destroyed but never used. The diary possessed Ginny. The ring poisoned Dumbledore. The locket brought out Ron's deepest fears and made them all exceptionally angry when they wore it for extended periods. How would the cup and the diadem use their defences and what effects would they have on the person who used them? And would Nagini have done Voldemort's bidding had she not had his soul in her?
Hey I’ve watched your videos for a long time and always found the background merchandise like Cap’s shield or the stormtrooper helmet really cool. I was wondering if you guys could do a video where you reviewed or showcased all your cool collectibles. It’d be cool to know if you liked what you bought and where you got it. Maybe the sword was used to kill Godric. The sword wasn't there when he needed it most, and now it refuses to allow the same to happen to any Gryfindor ever again.
I think it would repel the Horcrux, and maybe that's also why the piece of soul latched onto Harry. Think about it, Voldi had the prepared sword (or other object) with him, but his soul doesn't latch on to that when its spliced by the rebound? Could be because it really was the sword and the sword repelled the soul. That's why it had to find another vessel and it latched onto Harry!
