When it comes to the first settlers and pioneers in Youngstown, Ohio one person comes to mind that really doesn't get talked about too much, that would be Isaac Powers! With traces back to John Young and joining the survey team with people like Phineas Hill to starting roots of what we know as Republic Steel makes him a very interesting asset to our history.
Not much remains of what was once his farm and home, but what does still exist is something that no one should want to miss a visit to!

I love learning about Ohio’s history and how it has shaped our lives. This is really neat to hear about the Powers estate and about one of Youngstown’s early settlers. I’ve been to Youngstown a handful of times and I’m glad to learn about its history from a local. Great historical video Jim!

I wasnt around back then so I don't know the details, but when you asked if there used to be another trail up to the memorial by where the Powers Estate Cemetery sign is, there probably was. That whole area where 680 is now used to be Pine Hollow Park. I'd be curious to walk back there to see if theres any visible remnants of old trails, but my guess is that there used to be a trail connection over to Shirley Road before 680 was there - in fact, you can still see the old abandoned entrance to Pine Hollow Park at the corner of Shirley and East Boston.

It's crazy to imagine the terrain back then, especially because we were not around, I knew there would have to be some other trails and remains somewhere. thanks for the added info and thanks for watching!

I'm glad you did a video on this, I always was curious what was back there! You should do a video on the Edith Kauffman Quarry Garden behind Ford Nature Center in Mill Creek Park! It's very overgrown, so this is a great time of year to hike back there as its kinda impassable once the leaves grow in. It's still got an amazing huge old quarry wall with a plaque on it and the trail takes you to an abandoned part of Old Furnace Road. I think making a video on this would be cool since it's a part of the park that a lot of people would have trouble hiking to since it's so overgrown and secluded.

Excellent adventure and teaching on the Powers Cemetery. I've been away from that area so long I really don't remember the locations of any of those roads you talked about however I really do believe I've seen the sign from 680

Sorry Jim, I am 2 days behind in fellow Tubers out there. LOVE your "whisper mode" in the beginning. WooHoo... correcting the 1800 to 1830, coal for heat. Spittin FACTS. They don't like that, yo! Fantastic visit and cool site (sad there isn't more left). As for your research, well done. Video would have been crash and burn w/o all that history. And now you know why my channel shifted into InfoDumping of history. Great video!!!

I've always loved little fun facts and finding out history (especially local to me) about the people that built a certain town or area, so I like to incorporate that in my videos... yes.... no history of this cemetery would have been blah... lol. No, they don't like facts being spit lmao!

You can see remains of an entrance on the corner of E. Boston and Shirley rd. that got cut off when 680 came through.

That wasn't the cemetery entrance but the entrance to the old Pine Hollow City Park. You could get to the cemetery through the park which we often did as kids. Then, 680 went through where most of the main part of the park was and that took care of that. We use to come in from the man entrance on Shirley Rd. and Boston cross the creek and climb up the hill that led to the cemetery. I think the Boy Scouts helped with the restoration of the cemetery too. It's been so long but I seem to remember names being engraved on that obelisk. That was way back in the early 1960's. We use to watch the workers when 680 was being built, It took around 16 years to build that freeway and one day in 1972, a bulldozer hit a 12-inch gas main at the Shirley Road overpass and what an explosion that was! One person was killed and a number of people was injured. I didn't see that happen but my friends house was pretty close to ground zero at 2618 Shirley Rd. Boy, that's something. I watched this video and it's funny how many old memories come flooding back.

Using Microsoft's Copilot: Maybe a later connection to the original family was the Edward W. Powers family that stepped in with $250,000 to preserve the Warner Theater built in 1931 that was re-christened as Powers Auditorium. Oh, as I reach the 23:+: mark you did mention the auditorium!
