Taken from the second series of the radio show, The showbiz legend gives a lecture to impress the Egyptology Society - but there's a strict dress code. You can buy this episode and much more besides by visiting www.countarthurstrong.com
@@ericlyon1425 I absolutely love the TV show, but I'd never listened to the radio version. He was a completely new character to me. My wife and I are currently watching the 3 seasons on Netflix, and have not laughed so much in a long time 😅
The best episode ever. The bit about Cliff Richard. I nearly crashed my car. I had to pull over. The TV series was really good too but I suppose it didn't fulfil the quotas.
The mistletoe and wine quote is my favourite from all the radio episodes. Pure genius. Which sums him up nicely. I saw him at the Liverpool Empire, and met him afterwards, and had my photo taken holding a sign saying genius, with an arrow pointing towards him.
Re-watching the series and I haven’t laughed so hard in all my life, the tears are pouring out. I really hope some more things are coming again, please!!
I have to admit I much prefer the Radio series. This was mainly because they tried to change it from Northern to fit the Southern cultural heritage of an East end cafe. It’s a shame they didn’t stick to the Northern elements that make Count Arthur so Strong up North 😊
Count Arthur told me recently "Sadly due to a complete mix up, which I might add was not of my making, I've been barred from entering Egypt ever again. A young native lad called Abdul asked me to hold some tickets for him whilst the Police took him away for questioning. Another Policeman explained that I should have had a sales licence. What, for doing someone a favour just holding their tickets, I argued. It didn't do any good as they prosecuted me for Pyramid selling" You couldn't make it up.
Count Arthur on the Radio as opposed to the TV is hilarious. He is pure genius. I have all his Radio plays and his book. I listen to him many times and still pick up jokes I missed. I don't think it crossed to tv as Well. The new characters were not that good. I wish with all my being he would do more radio.
'Returned' to the Count having been in the audience for the Des O'Connor and Jimmy Tarbuck tour last night here in Harrogate (they were brilliant and are showbiz royalty) got chatting with a bloke sat next seat and he'd seen the Count on stage recently - great to meet a fellow fan - been listening to the Count for hours since - gosh I must see him live!!! 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Being a Brit in the US, I didn’t discover the Count until a few years ago. I think I managed to listen to all his radio shows before they were taken down. The Hillman Minx with Terry Wogan is still my favorite. Too bad the BBC archive doesn’t still have them available.
I think all those who decry Arthur's rise to fame as a star of the televisual arts are trying to deny his talents to the seething masses. The genius must be allowed to be overexposed in all mediums, large and extra large.
For example James cordon?? he is as funny as woodworm in a cripples crutch. Dry grey beige comes to mind but the populace love him even in America...I just don't understand it. Count Arthur steve delany has more talent under his little pinky than corden. But again the powers that be want you to laugh at who they choose it seems.
@@Alji3dom Not really fair. Corden is an idiot and mostly unfunny. But there's comedy genius in Gavin and Stacey which he co wrote. Arthur appeals to a narrow band of people and the BBC needed a bigger audience. I love him live, on radio and on TV, but he's not hugely popular even with my age group. And his live audiences are nearly all aging men, so not great for diversity. BTW woodworm in a cripple's crutch is desperate comedicaly. I rest my suitcases.
I remember seeing count author string in the west end years ago doing Shakespeares's City....town... hamlet!!! loved his rendition of the speech 'to be a bee or a wasp, what was the question?
i'd love to see a 3-way debate with Psychic Charlie and little Tiny Tut on the effects of modern history education vis-a vis the Doncaster Alhambra; channelling Burning Billy Bugle and Lenny Long Arms of course
I much prefer the radio version, on TV its more of a regular comedy, no word play & he doesn't get drunk or cause so much bother.. BTW - the sig tune reminds me of Hancock's Half Hour..
peepodaylane Yes, the TV show did seem wrong to us die-hard radio fans at first. But I think it is worth giving time to; you have to clear the radio version from your mind, and take the TV show on its own merits. I am now a fan of both. The TV show is really a double act with a wonderful performance from Rory Kinnear. Part of the problem I found was that Steve Delaney (while a perfectly normal looking fellow off stage) morphs into a rather disturbing and unpleasant looking man when in character This takes a bit of getting used to! He's a bit harder to love when we can see him.
+peepodaylane I agreed with you up to the flying lesson episode. That hesitating walk to the plane (as both characters thought the other was the instructor) made me fall off my chair.
I really struggled with the TV shows up until the second half of the second series when it really took off and realised that the TV character had a new life of its own - then it was another medium to enjoy. Now I enjoy them both.
Omg open the door to something well beyond the Looking glass and enjoy a completely surreal world view….brilliant Probably just as well it was cut as keeping this standard up would be hard
Classic, absolute classic- maybe a little bit high brow for some of youth pubes normal partakers. Best listened to in green ink. A towering comedic genius- at least 64 pigeon legs.
I imagine he has a Twitface... Face-ache.... Oh... FACEBOOK ! (that's what I said) account....., so... all my.. HIS fans can keep in contrast... CONTACT !
Really kind of you to upload these and hope the damn BBC don't get their greedy paws on it to close it down £££ that's what they want !! I love Count Arthur Strong and Radio 4 has been my mainstay since I was young and left home in the mid 80's.My dad passed away 10 days ago and he reminded me of Count Arthur,I remember once listening dad and his identical twin talking about a giant octopus and dad said 'You should have seen him ,the diver fought at 200 feet below the surface and the octopus had all 8 testicals wrapped around him'!! LOL..Brilliant ! Mrr Malaprop but he didn't even get that reference either lol..Did you see the episode on tv where John Shuttleworth was singing with him? lol.
