It's time to show you the videos from the recording sessions of Count to Three AND some extra content and bloopers recorded during the session with ELLEN MCLAIN herself!
As you already know, our latest release is dedicated to VALVE - the company behind Half-Life, Portal, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead, DOTA 2 and much more. We asked Ellen McLain, the original voice of GLaDOS from “Portal” and “Portal 2”, to record the vocals as GLaDOS and turrets for the song, and she kindly agreed to do that!
In the video you'll also see some other familiar faces, who recorded their parts for us:
THE STUPENDIUM, who portrayed Gabe Newell; Valve’s CEO, GABE NEWELL himself, who recorded a couple of lines that made a crazy cameo in the video; Holly Turton, a brilliant vocalist who sang as Alyx and the musicians: our own guitarist Ergy, Weber Marely's wind band and Matias Menarguez, the drummer.

@@mixamega Yes, they alter her recording "in post (production)" [after the project finishes recording the original recording]. Different tweaks for GLaDOS and the Turrets. Always been this way, even Portal 1 and 2! And every other appearance, like her role as dealer in the underrated Telltale poker game (A Night at The Inventory 2)!

Actually there was a bit of a trick there. It's not just hard-edged Melodyne, it was specific old version of a Melodyne, used specifically at the Portal's release date. Older version algorithm has glitches and artifacts that associated with GLaDOS voice. Anyone can obviously use just regular up-to-date Melodyne, but it would be a slightly different sound. We got some hints from Valve's sound engineers as I remember.

In all honesty, I don't think Portal needs a sequel. But if we do get a sequel I want it centered around P-body and Atlas, the robots we see at the end of the game and in Co-op mode.

I’m still holding out hope. HL:Alyx being released over 12 years after the last game in the series came out makes it seem more likely. Maybe she’s right about the naming though - maybe there will be a 3, but it won’t be called ‘3’. There better be another Portal game too, prequel or sequel - I don’t mind.

Randy Bitchford of Gearbox (Borderlands) swooped in, picked up the licence, and using the current build they were doing, got some interns to finish it to a minimum and punted it out the door. Obviously 3D Realms fucking around cost them the IP, but Randy ultimately was the one to put a cap in the duke by pushing out a game really no one wanted.

Ellen is very wholesome, too humble entirely. She is the voice of two games which will forever be part of the gaming hall of fame. The Chalkeaters are very much the lucky ones, as are we all. One reason why I love not only the chalkeaters but gabe and Ellen is how down to earth all of them are. Ellen is just so nice, kind of like the grandmother you always wanted but never got. Gabe is like the class clown who when people realize he is much more serious than people give him credit for. And the chalk eaters are just the chalkeaters.
