BACKGROUND
Countdown is the channel’s longest running show and the first show ever broadcast on Channel 4 when it launched 40 years ago, in November 1982. The original version of Channel 4's Countdown is the French television programme « Des chiffres et des lettres » (literally "numbers and letters"), where the Numbers Round is referred to as « Le compte est bon » ("the total is right"). The show debuted in 1965 as « Le mot le plus long » using letters only, and reached its present format in 1972. This year marks the shows 51st anniversary.

"8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown" is hosted by Jimmy Carr, with Rachel Riley and Susie Dent assuming their Countdown roles. The formation of the crossover with "8 Out if 10 Cats" began as a series of specials, the first of which was broadcast on 2 January 2012, when Channel 4 orchestrated a special "mash-up night", merging two shows to form a special edition of the pair, as part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations eleven years ago.

I assumed they meant the way I did it, which requires no 50. 100-4=96 96*(5+1)=576 576+9=585

Oh, of course. I immediately thought 600 and 15 might be in there somewhere, but I didn’t see (100 + 50) x 4.

I did it the same way as Paul, so I was surprised when Colin implied it was simple before Paul read his solution. Then Colin said it wasn't the simple way. I looked at the numbers again but just didn't see it until I read the comments.

The simple way was 100+50=150. 150x4=600. 600-9-5-1=585.

4:55 It's 336 = 350 - 14 both divisible by 7, so 6+1 = 7, 75-25 = 50, (50-2)*7 = 336

For the first two I did as Rachel. For the third one I did: 75-25-2= 48 1+6=7 7*48=336 For the last one I did as the contender

For the last round, i tried to make 117*5, but failed, then tried (107*5)+50 and again failed but settled on: 4-1=3 9*3=27 100+27=127 127*5=635 635-50=585

I'd just like to add, as an overall comment on the game, that this has been one of the more mathematically interesting ones in a while. I prefer it when contestants try challenging numbers selections, especially four-large, but this game proved that even one- or two-large can be an interesting selection sometimes.
