The clock is ticking as contestants compete in games of lexical dexterity and numerical agility. Each day two contestants compete in 15 rounds of words and numbers to become the Countdown Champion.
Colin Murray and Rachel Riley host as contestants race against the clock to pit their wits against vowels, consonants and numbers. Jamelia joins Susie Dent in Dictionary Corner.
Numbers Round List:
00:00 Monday, 27 February 2023
04:57 Tuesday, 28 February 2023
10:33 Wednesday, 1 March 2023
15:15 Thursday, 2 March 2023
19:54 Friday, 3 March 2023
SPIN-OFF
"8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown" is hosted by Jimmy Carr, with Rachel Riley and Susie Dent assuming their Countdown roles. The formation of the crossover with "8 Out if 10 Cats" began as a series of specials, the first of which was broadcast on 2 January 2012, when Channel 4 orchestrated a special "mash-up night", merging two shows to form a special edition of the pair, as part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations eleven years ago.

The first game of the day I can’t believe no one realised it was 300-63 so you say (8/2*75)-(9*7)

I didn’t use all the numbers on that last one but I did find a way to use four of them. 8 / 2 = 4; 25 x 4 = 100; 4 x 100 = 400.

Thank you so much for the upload! 19:54 Friday, first round (914): 4 AWAY (918) 50 / 25 = 2 100 + 2 = 102 5 + 4 = 9 102 * 9 = 918 21:12 Friday, second round (499): 100 * 5 = 500 500 - 10 + 9 = 499 22:06 Friday, third round (330): 5 * 2 = 10 100 + 10 = 110 75 / 25 = 3 3 * 110 = 330 23:26 Friday, fourth round (400): 4 * 100 = 400 😀 or using all the numbers (as Rachel suggested) 10 / 2 = 5 8 - 5 = 3 100 * 3 = 300 25 * 4 = 100 300 + 100 = 400

@timkokesh1968
@timkokesh1968 9 месяцев назад
You don’t need to learn your times tables… I’m sure Rachel knows that if the difference between the sum of the hundreds and ones digits and the middle digit is either 0 or 11, the entire number is divisible by 11. That is, for 836, 8+6-3 = 11, therefore 836 is a multiple of 11.

Monday Countdown In the first round, I saw Rachel's solution and also had these solutions: 75 x 2 = 150 10 x 8 = 80 150 + 80 + 7 = 237 8 / 2 = 4 75 x 4 = 300 9 x 7 = 63 300 - 63 = 237 In the second round, I saw Rachel's solution and also had this one I expected to occur to one of the contestants: 75 - 1 - 1 = 73 73 x 10 = 730 730 + 100 + 6 = 836 In the third round, I saw Tony's solution, and I also had this: 50 + 3 + 1 = 54 9 + 9 = 18 54 x 18 = 972 972 - 10 = 962 Plus, I'm not sure how Seán got 963, but the one way I saw leaves the 1 to take away: 10 + 9 = 19 19 x 3 = 57 57 + 50 = 107 107 x 9 = 963 963 - 1 = 962 If that's the way they did it, then that would be heartbreaking. In the fourth numbers round, I saw the contestants' solution, but also had this one from factoring (29 x 7 = 203): 25 + 4 = 29 8 - 1 = 7 29 x 7 = 203 And I also had these: 25 x 4 = 100 100 + 1 = 101 8 / 4 = 2 101 x 2 = 202 202 + 1 = 203 25 - 8 = 17 4 - 1 = 3 17 x 3 = 51 51 x 4 = 204 204 - 1 = 203

Tuesday Countdown In the first round, I saw Rachel's solution, and I also had this one based on factoring: (17^2 x 3 = 867): 75 x 3 = 225 10 x 7 = 70 70 - 6 = 64 225 + 64 = 289 289 x 3 = 867 I tried coming up with 51 x 17, because of the 10 and 7 there, but there wasn't any way I could find to make that work. However, I also had these: 10 x 7 = 70 75 + 70 = 145 145 x 6 = 870 870 - 3 = 867 75 x 10 = 750 7 + 6 = 13 13 x 3 x 3 = 117 750 + 117 = 867 In the second round, the contestant was agnozingly close to the right answer. She would have had it if she had only done this: 75 + 9 = 84 84 x 8 = 672 672 + 100 = 772 8 - 7 = 1 772 + 1 = 773 And I also had the following related solutions: 100 + 7 = 107 107 x 8 = 856 856 - 75 - 8 = 773 9 - 7 = 2 8 - 2 = 6 100 + 6 = 106 106 x 8 = 848 848 - 75 = 773 In the third round, I had Rachel's solution. However, I got it within 30 seconds along with this related one: 7 x 5 = 35 100 + 35 = 135 135 x 7 = 945 945 + 6 + 2 = 953 Another solution was: 7 + 6 = 13 13 x 7 = 91 100 + 91 = 191 191 x 5 = 955 955 - 2 = 953 And I had this from considering the fact that the 100 and 6 were twice what I wished them to be: 7 + 7 + 5 = 19 100 x 19 = 1900 1900 + 6 = 1906 1906 / 2 = 953 In the final round, I saw the contestants' solution, and also simplified it with: 6 - 1 = 5 100 + 5 = 105 105 x 3 = 315 However, I also had some more materially different solutions, like: 3 + 1 = 4 10 x 6 x 4 = 240 240 + 75 = 315 10 x 3 = 30 75 - 30 = 45 6 + 1 = 7 45 x 7 = 315 100 + 75 = 175 175 x 6 = 1050 1050 x 3 = 3150 3150 / 10 = 315

Wednesday Countdown In the first round, I saw Rachel's solution and also had this related one: 50 - 9 - 3 = 38 38 x 25 = 950 8 - 7 = 1 950 - 1 = 949 But I also had this different alternative: 50 + 8 = 58 25 - 9 = 16 58 x 16 = 928 7 x 3 = 21 928 + 21 = 949 In the second round, I saw Dan's solution, but also had these: 75 x 3 = 225 225 + 6 = 231 231 - 25 = 206 100 / 50 = 2 206 x 2 = 412 100 + 3 = 103 50 / 25 = 2 6 - 2 = 4 103 x 4 = 412 100 + 3 = 103 103 x 50 = 5150 5150 x 6 = 30900 309000 / 75 = 412 The last is a bit of a cheat, because all I was doing was using the ratio of 50 / 75 to turn 6 into 4. In the third round, I saw Rachel's solution for 723 but it's the only one. In the fourth round, I saw the contestants' solution, but I also had these: 75 + 5 = 80 80 x 2 = 160 5 x 2 = 10 50 - 10 = 40 100 / 25 = 4 40 x 4 = 160 50 + 2 = 52 75 x 52 = 3900 3900 + 100 = 4000 4000 / 25 = 160 100 + 5 + 2 = 107 107 x 75 = 8025 8025 - 25 = 8000 8000 / 50 = 160
@Nullifidian

Thursday Countdown In the first round, I saw both contestants' solutions, but if you want a fancy solution you can do this: 50 - 6 = 44 100 x 44 = 4400 4400 - 75 = 4325 4325 / 25 = 173 Since 100 / 25 is 4 and 75 / 25 is 3, it's the equivalent of (50 - 6) x 4 - 3 = 173. In the second round, I saw both contestants' solution, but also had this one from factoring (67 x 7 x 2 = 938): 6 x 6 = 36 100 + 36 = 136 136 - 2 = 134 8 - 1 = 7 134 x 7 = 938 And I also had this: 2 + 1 = 3 6 x 3 = 18 100 + 18 = 118 118 x 8 = 944 944 - 6 = 938 In the third round, I saw Dan's solution, but also had these: 25 - 6 = 19 19 x 7 = 133 100 / 50 = 2 133 + 2 = 135 50 - 7 = 43 75 / 25 = 3 43 x 3 = 129 129 + 6 = 135 75 + 50 = 125 125 / 25 = 5 7 x 5 = 35 100 + 35 = 135 And finally this fancy solution: 50 - 6 = 44 75 x 44 = 3300 3300 - 100 = 3200 3200 / 25 = 128 128 + 7 = 135 Again, 75 / 25 = 3 and 100 / 25 = 4, so it's equivalent to (50 - 6) x 3 - 4 + 7 = 135. In the final round, I had Rachel's solution for one-below as well as this one: 9 x 5 = 45 45 - 6 = 39 39 x 7 x 3 = 819 And I had this for 1 above: 6 x 3 = 18 18 + 5 = 23 23 x 9 x 4 = 828 828 - 7 = 821

Friday Countdown In the first numbers round, I had a few solutions for 915: 50 / 25 = 2 4 x 2 = 8 100 + 75 + 8 = 183 183 x 5 = 915 100 + 5 = 105 50 / 25 = 2 105 x 4 x 2 = 840 840 + 75 = 915 50 - 4 = 46 100 x 46 = 4600 4600 - 25 = 4575 4575 / 5 = 915 This last is based on the fact that 100 / 5 = 20 and 25 / 5 is 5, so it's the equivalent of (50 - 4) x 20 - 5 = 915. In the second round, I saw the contestants' solution, but if you wanted to use all of the numbers, you could do this: 100 + 25 = 125 125 - 5 = 120 120 x 4 = 480 480 + 10 + 9 = 499 There's not really any point in finding more solutions for such an easy target, though. In the third round, I saw Rachel's solution, and few more ways out of the million to do it are: 5 x 2 = 10 100 + 10 = 110 75 / 25 = 3 110 x 3 = 330 75 - 5 = 70 100 / 25 = 4 70 x 4 = 280 280 + 50 = 330 75 / 5 = 15 100 + 50 + 15 = 165 165 x 2 = 330 100 + 75 = 175 50 / 5 = 10 175 - 10 = 165 165 x 2 = 330 75 + 5 + 2 = 82 100 x 82 = 8200 8200 + 50 = 8250 8250 / 25 = 330 The logic of the above solution is that since I'm dividing by 25, 100 is equivalent to 4 and 50 to 2, so it's functionally the same as (75 + 5 + 2) x 4 + 2 = 330. Again, the fourth round isn't really worth doing, but for the sake of doing something this is my solution using all of the numbers: 25 x 2 = 50 100 / 50 = 2 8 + 2 = 10 10 x 10 x 4 = 400
