Sangakkara had made runs after bowling standards dipped. Aravindas greatness does not need statistical covering. I have seen aravinda playing late cut to Waqar in 1998. Thats enough for me to proclaim that Aravinda as the greatest sri lankan batsman ever. No contest..@@AbhishekSharma-fz3fh
This guy was insanely gifted. Even at this late stage of his career he treated the fast-bowlers like slow-medium trundlers. It's like watching a man playing a bunch of school boys.
Yeah but it was a meaningless innings. He went in at 2 for 46 chasing 319 and departed at 8 for 203 off 44.1, needing 116 more to win off 35 balls. Not far past the halfway point of his innings it was 5 for 138, needing 181 off 15 overs with all other specialist batsmen gone. Vintage Aravinda stroke play it may have been in theory, but this innings at no stage had any bearing whatsoever on the outcome of the match.
LEGENDARY CRICKETER OF SRI LANKA & WORLD CRICKET. HOW CAN I FORGET ARVIND SIR'S GREAT INNING IN 1996 WORLD CUP SEMIFINAL Vs INDIA & FINAL Vs AUSTRALIA. I AM LUCKY THAT I HAVE SEEN THIS GREAT PLAYER'S MANY INNING IN ODI & TEST MATCHES. ARVIND SIR I SALUTE YOU. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Aravinda De Silva is an underrated batsman. My dad loved to see him on the ground so much. Sri Lanka rarely toured New Zealand back then. But he watched every game they played in New Zealand. 90's cricket was the best. Too much talent. No any leagues or money based players. Sometimes there was aggression between players. But it was very entertaining to watch unlike modern rivalries. I didn't watch em live. But I've watched many 90's matches via YT. Those leagues kill the spirit of this lovely game. Ahh at least I enjoyed this game when it wasn't just a game. Love those vintage batsmen like Aravinda de Silva, Sanath Jayasuriya,Sachin Tendulkar, Javed Miendad,Brian Lara, Viv Richards,Rickey Ponting, Waugh, Rhodes and Fleming
One of my favorite Sri Lankan cricketers. He's very underrated even today. His pulls and hucks look awesome. De Silva, Jayasurya, Sanga. I like them in that order. De Silva's numbers don't justify his talent. Love from 🇮🇳
I agree. But it was played before. I remember Sachin playing similar shot of Atul-Ur-rahman which went for six in this video, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tOHQ3mKuydc.html , watch from 2.20-2.24. But in this case, one from Arvinda is against one of the fastest bowler in the world
I think Aravinda is an extraordinary batsman. Present time batsmen in cricket world have to learn a variety of super class shots from Aaravinda. Look at the pace, look at the timing, look at the power he applies, look at how he navigates the direction of his shot, look how class and smart he uses the pace of the ball. Every shot super genius. Nowadays i see lots of smash hitters , but not this class, this is way beyond the hope. This is too rare , you can buy whatever u want with money ,but not a chance to see this style of extraordinary batting .my god,its the ultimate class of batting ❤️❤️🙏
In my personal view he was the best Sri Lankan batsman I have seen. I remember watching him in the 90s and that era was something special. Today cricket has lot that charm.
Sanath Mahela and Sanga all agreed on one thing, he was the best batsman SL produced...the guy never took Cricket too seriously he was doing business and it was half hearted. We can imagine if he played full on in modern era with all the money and huge number of matches players gets. There will never be another Aravinda
Yes I used to see every match in live situation between 2003 to 2008 but due to ipl, I m not watching every match even of indian Match..just check the score on cricbuzz dats it
the highest respect for any cricketer is to compare him with don bradman not viv richards. no cricketer in his dream could come close to the unbelievable average of 99.94 of bradman. how can u compare bradman with richard.bradman is incomparable.
@@gauravpandey9781 don Bradman didnt play against all nations don bradman didnt play 100 test . If he ever play more test against different countries his average wil be around 60-70 which is huge but not 99 thats a fact
‘That was one of the great shots you will ever see. It was a ripper’ - Richie Bernard ‘ Brett Lee’s being smashed all over Centurian’ - Tony Greg ‘144 case an hour down the pitch but 177 back the other way’- Danni Morrison (No batsman on earth could salvage the fasted baller like this but great Aravinda - Bravest batsman ever)
This Srilankan legend is so under rated.People dont talk about him in the league of Ponting Sachin kallis.Look dhoni have retired and the whole media is crying.Shame ICC is so biased towards India and Australia players it makes me sick.
@@differentworld1646 its becoz Aus n Ind hv dominated cricket mostly all over world, same cannot be said about ur team SL who are only good in Asian countries , it was just in the WC 2007 they did well away from Asia that too becoz Pak n Ind had tough time that WC.Here in 2003 wc, they were lucky to reach semis.99 wc we blasted SL away in Eng. Hence ur team players don't get that much attention as our players n Aussies get.
@@sugs1191 Aravinda was single handedly with bat and ball winning world cup semis and finals. Aravinda is certainly the #1 under pressure batsmen of his era. No doubts about that at all. You want to go to war from a equal position you take Lara and Tendulkar. You want to go to war with your back against the wall? Aravinda..
@@LakpriyaKottahachchi I totally agree. Arvind de Silva is the best sri lanka has ever produced. Sorry I haven't seen d mendis playing. Class=arvind, fear=jaisuriya
Simply unstoppable. He remained "not out" for most of innings. A gifted player who can either swiftly play with wrists or hit hard... He was a Nightmare for any bowler.... Bow this legend... I still see him as my idol...
I can’t admire Aravinda enough! Ever since he smacked a boundary laden 60 odd walking in at 0/2 at the Eden Gardens semifinal of the 96 WC (even though it was against India!). He takes on the best Aussie bowlers to the cleaners here - and oh that flick off the hips! What a champion!
Nah not considering any bowlers better or lesser man. I’d meant from the perspective of me being an Indian dude and yet obviously admiring Aravindas magnificent skill despite it being against Ind in the 96 semis.
Very lucky to see his 50 against India in semi final and 100 vs Australia in final at famous 1996 world cup played at Subcontinent. Those two innings are so majestic and special that easily those innings are one of the best innings that has ever played in Odis. Hats of Genius.
@@VickyKumar-bl1tl more than 300 wickets in both ODI and Tests, shut the fuck up. Jeff Thompson wasn't aggressive in the sense he never spoke words unlike Dennis Lillie. But world feared him more.
What makes Aravinda so special is that cricket was just a hobby to him. Guy was notorious for not taking the game seriously UNLESS its the day before a final or an elimination game. Then he Is up doing bat drills non stop for hours. This is why "Madmax" is so appropriate for him. The average DOES NOT TELL THE WHOLE STORY OF ARAVINDA..
When someone who has seen everything cricket had to offer from Don Bradman to Virat Kohli says "that's one of the greatest shots you'll see" you gotta trust his words..
Aravinda De Silva is a step ahead of even Sachin Tendulkar when it comes to raw talent and pure vintage! The mythical Blue Lion produced by Sri Lanka to world cricket is Aravinda De Silva.💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚!
Top batsman pleasure to watch. One of the best the Indian subcontinent has produced. Gavaskar, Arvinda, Sachin, Miandad, Zaheer, Rahul, Sangakara, Jayewardana and there are a few more like Saleem Malik, Inzi, Laxman, Jayasuria & many more.
Seems like Silva was playing againnst street cricket team...but reality is that .....that Australian team was the greatest cricket team of th game....may b thz combination will never b repeated in any cricket any team
2003 was best as all the top players were in peak..Hayden Gilchrist ponting McGrath Gillespie and so on...they were like bulldozers.. demolished every opponents
Aravinda with his cool attitude and fantastic batting skill will remain in the heart of World cricket lover. After Tendulkar and Inzamam ul Haq it was Aravinda Desilva who played most of the match turning innings as mainstream batsmen among the Asian countries even among the world .He is a unforgettable player of Sri Lanka cricket.
Inzamam??? Do not compare him to De Silva. And whilst I respect Sachin, De Silva played more match winning innings in the 90s imo. De Silva and Sanath wud win games singlehandedly.
So which are the match winning innings that Sachin played, other than the two in Sharjah against Australia. India played a million times in Sharjah in the 1990s against Pakistan and hardly ever won. Ever remember Tendulkar winning a game with the bat? The mark of a true champion is to do it when the stakes are high.
With all due respect to Sanath Jayasuriya, I would say, 'The Mad Max ' is the greatest batsman ever produced by Srilanka.. Respect the legend.. ❤from India
Dude .. c’mon .. he was the Sachin of Srilanka.. don’t know why you are telling he was an unsung hero. His Century in 1996 World Cup final was the best and most unforgettable innings in any World Cup finals.
Sanga wasn't the same force until 2004 He really blossomed since 2008 when cricket and batting became easier... Still his record till 2014 in England wasn't great... Saf even... Hence Aravinda for me is the greatest Sri Lankan batter ever.... By far
Arvinda was a complete batsman and during his tenure he was regarded as one of the best and was in leauge of extraordinary batsman like sachin, lara, saeed anwar and mark waugh... These 5 we're considered best batsman in world that time...
@@rathnayakeprasanna1536 no body say iam better player than everyone thats cristiano ronaldos style i start to watch the game 1996 sanga and jayavardhane played lots of innings like this they have more talent than dislive I am an indian
Well, very few of you have heard of a great sri lankan batsman by the name of Mahadevan Sathasivam better known as SATHA who played for ceylon in the 1940's through the 60's...sir Garry sobers said that satha was the greatest batsman on earth and sir frank worell said that satha was the greatest batsman he had ever seen.....satha played for Ceylon thats how srilanka was known before..Satha captained ceylon and later left ceylon and captained Malaysia and Singapore .....he probably is the only cricketer to captain the national cricket teams of 3 countries.
The way Prime Australian team in 2003 celebrated Aravinda's wicket in the Semi Final of Cricket World Cup 2003 depicts what kind of a player Aravinda is💪His run out was the turning point of thet match😭
I always thought he was on par with Brian Lara and Viv Richards. What ever it is , he was an under rated player. I found him marginally better than Sachin. I am Indian though and very much admire Sachin.
Brial lara or Sachin? Did they ever won a world cup final for west indies or india ? no but Aravinda did it he made 100 at worldcup finals agaist aussies that won the world cup for Sri lanka.
Better than sachin then check the stats of odi and test u will know who is master check the average and strike rate of both players in odi and then tell who is better
Highly underrated batsman….had a nimble and correct footwork against fast bowling…fearless and calculative in approach. I remember, the 1st test match against India 1985 in Sri Lanka… Aravinda was young and an attacking batsman… Sri Lanka needed 123 to win with about 15 overs left in the match…came opening the innings and belted sixes and fours against Kapil’s bowling. Sri Lanka fell short of winning their first test match eventually. 2nd test, 2nd innings - Aravinda belted Indian bowling to every corner of the ground for a quick fire 75…helped declare early and Sri Lanka won their first test match by 149 runs.
When the chips/chaps were down and pressure was on Aravinda D'silva would come into form. A legend. Wishing Sir Aravinda the best in his retired life from cricket.
ARVIND DISILVA, SANATH JAYASURYA, ARJUN RANATUNGA, MURALIDHARAN, CHAMIMDA VAAS, KUMAR SANGKARA, MAHELA JAYAWARDENA ARE LIVING LEGENDARY OF SRILANKAN CRICKET. I AM MISSING ALL OF THEM IN INTERNATIONAL CRICKET. LEGENDARY PLAYERS WE LOVE YOU VERY MUCH.🥰😍🤩😘🥰😍🤩😘🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
One of the fantastic batsman the game has witnessed. His six through Square Leg against Bret Lee and Sachin's hook against Andrew Caddick are among the best. ( Both in the same tournament - 2003 World Cup)
Watched the match live on 📺. Best batsman ever produced by 🇱🇰. As per the memory, this was his final ODI inning. Sadly, #sri_lanka_cricket misses players like him today.
His pulling was outrageous. When Imran came back after a stress fracture injury in 1985, its Aravindas first series I think and in Pakistan. He hammered Imran for 6 with multiple outrageous pull shots. An absolute legend.
That six off Lee, on the back foot was absolute master class. For me he is the best batsman ever produced by Asia, who excelled on faster overseas tracks as we.
One of the sachin special qualities is his longevity which makes him definitely among very few all times greats. Aravinda is no doubt an asset specially in ODIs
He's the only player to have taken on the mighty Aussies in the finals of a world cup! Aus has won 5 finals after his innings in the 1996 finals. Nobody was able to play an innings like his in the last 28 years
He was the best stroke player in cricket, even better than some of the masters of the game. That even was tending towards downfall in the early part of his career, he was trying too many shots before getting set in his innings. In the later part of his career, he corrected that and was so successful and looked brutal to watch
The reason why I admire arvinda desilva so much was that the time he joined srilanka they hardly played any international cricket and when they did it was him taking the responsibility of while mediocre team , it was only after 1995 and 96 WC when Sri Lanka was taken as cricketing giant and they started to get more matches internationally, their test matches were almost non existent in 80s , so keeping these things in mind he has achieved so much , had they played more he would have been among the very very best , still for me he is the best batsman Sri Lanka ever produced
One excellent character trait I see in Aravinda is he never stays in the wicket for the umpire’s decision if he knows he is out. He just walks away. That’s sportsmanship. Also a very good off spin bowler who would assist the team in difficult moments. He plays the shots very late. Great player! ❤
Asia cup tournaments played between 1990 - 2000 were a treat to watch. We had a radio in electrical lab, we used to run during school intervals to hear scores from it. It used be very thrilling. India, pakistan, srilanka, Australia, Kenya, Zimbabwe, west indies were pretty strong teams.
I thought Sanga is the greatest Lankan batsmen ever. Than my brother told me that it's De'silva the greatest lankan batsman ever. Now I agree with him. ❤️ and respect from 🇧🇩
