I mean, 15k players daily and without counting the no steam version, is insane

I'm Filipino. We still have 1.6 LAN tournaments with prize pools up to $1000. There was a $5000 cup but that was not competetive, those were the 1.6 streamers. Imagine, 1.6 still has streamers. wild.

This is great to watch. I was 18 in 2002 when I first started CS 1.5 and then 1.6 launched when I was 19. I spent hours at the internet cafe playing with friends and it's such a golden era and a memorable time in my life. I get hardcore nostalgia watching this in 2023!

1.6 has a really comfy vibe. Sometimes is fun to play really hard in CSGO but sometimes you wanna run around and shoot in some 800 polygon maps.

Takes me back to when gaming was super social!! I remember 1 kid installing this on the PC's at school in winter 2003, after the bell would ring on a cold English winter we would all run to the I.T room were 20 pc's were waiting first dibs to play LAN. All picking sides, i was lucky enough that have the net on 750kbs at that time playing unreal 2003 but my set up was 800 res so changing res to 800 frpm 1024 your team covering your screen if you was the last alive. Openely shouting if you was alive in a 1v1 "i challenge you to a duel and throwing your guns away and having a knife fight" man good days.

Pretty cool seeing GO players try out the origin game. 1.6 is a masterpiece to me. I grew up with it and truly love it especially the custom modding scene.

I was 14 years old when I started playing this in 2000. I played suchba ridiculous amount of hours playing. Sometimes I would play like 14 hours a day. My first true video game obsession!

1.6 is great the amount of community maps that are still active is insane. Going back to hit scan FPS feels crazy too

Condition Zero can definitely count. It wasn't as popular as other installments, but it was its own game. Anyway, good video.

CS 1.6 has a few differences from CS:GO; 1/ The time for weapons to recover accuracy is higher, so you have to tap slower or add more time between your bursts. 2/ Weapons have multiple recoil patterns, so spraying isn't as consistent as in CS:GO, tap firing/bursts are used more often 3/ As you saw, the flashes last ages; but also, nades can go through 1 pixel gaps 4/ Crouching works a bit differently, instead of going down, you kinda pull your legs up which allows a movement technique known as "crouch hopping" which allows you to step up on obstacles without jumping, and IIRC gain some speed 5/ the wallbangs... there are lots of lineups you can learn on the maps which wallbang common spots that someone will be sitting. Good for taking B on dust 2, for example.

Playing cs 1.6 is like riding a bicycle. It just stands there in the hallway and whenever you feel like wanting to ride it. You grab and ride it for some time and put it back when you are done. Thats at least how I play the game. For example I am on steam for more than 8 years and I played cs 1.6 for 1000 hrs not regularly but time to time. I sometimes just install ot to try different combinations of mods and skins to customize/personilize my cs 1.6. 😎 like modifing your own bicycle.

All the custom maps, fy_iceworld, fy_snow deathmatches, scouts_knives, awp_map sigh the good ole days. I played cs, worked, partied, and barely slept 😂 my sleep hedule

CS 1.6 holds such a special place in my heart. I used to play every day at my local LAN center Dragon Core.

Sometimes i enter both 1.6 and Source and it's crazy how good it still feels and ppl still playing it too, impressive!! Sadly some other great games from Valve like Day of Defeat and Deathmatch are pretty dead, which is a shame.

MP5 was such a bargain back in the day. Loved its action for burst head shots. CS:GO it's never felt the same.

day of defeat was even better imo but they are both legendary games. And lets not forget surf maps :).

I miss DoD so much, I know it wasn’t huge but the amount over time I sunk into that game like 12 years ago was wild

I still play it once a month at least I don't play online multiplayer games that much but this game is just our thing I'm passed 30 and all my teammates are also over 30 and we only gather to play this game once a month for 3 to 4 hours each session it is a fun game

besides how good cs 1.6 is the main reason that it's still relevant is the low spec pcs in eastern europe and other areas (south america, india, russia) the fact that's the game is free supported by the community servers

This game and Gta SA will outlive the generations, cs 1.6 has huge fan base still in parts of the globe such as Eastern Europe,South America

I only wish someone to fix the viewmodel inconsistencies. LIke the weapons being all flipped due to the animator being left handed, and also the M4A1 pulling the wrong thing when being drawn and reloaded.

i remember using lefthand because it naturally aims higher causing a better chance of a headshot.

I played a similar game on android and it occurred to me to practice using one finger at a time. One finger touch screen (left or right at any one time but not both at the same time). This may be the way to improve, in real life, by getting really pissed-off, and learn how to undo-redo with clarity.

I do hope CS2 will balance the fun and competitive aspects of CS with the new engine.

CS was my first FPS after playing Duke3D on PC. Hostage jumping on CS_backalley...de_docks... The custom maps were what really made the earlier game though. cs_mountainhamlet, and blahhhh_s...not to mention the rats and gjjoe maps. Browsing csbanana for all kinds of custom models sounds and sprites...I don't know if any of this carried over to GO or not, as I lost interest...if I remember correctly, Militia seemed to disappear and that was it for me. Then they ditched the Steam IDs, and my 5 digit status was lost forever :( DoD Source was so much fun as well...I played the shit out of Avalanche; had my tactics and timed grenade throws down to a science...shooting the grenade from my rifle and catching it so I could throw it was so great. Priming my grenade at the top of the church and jumping down on Allies trying to cap the fountain and suicide bombing them was so much fun. Not to mention the classic "kill-bind" if you found yourself in a bad position and wanted to just take yourself out to avoid giving the enemy the satisfaction. "Whisky Tango Foxtrot" was always a good addition to any match. Good times!

I'm still playing this offline, having fun with AMX mods! I'm using the Warzone version

1.6 stayed amazing all this time and still do because of the possibilities. There are lots of mods. Like zombie plague, zombie escape, surf, paintball, jail break, base builder, furien , classic, ffa , deathmatch...., and each server does the mod their way so it's not boring. You can play lots of mods and never get bored. And you have lots of servers that do mods different. Just the zp alone has lots of versions. 4.3, 5.0.8, 6.2 , outstanding and more. Each version has lots of differences and perks . Like for example. I can take 5.0.8 and make tons of zombie mods that don't look the same. It's the best game for me.

1.6 is simple, that's why people still play it. There isn't really much of a meta as far as I'm aware, it's just fun.
