Really love this song. This and Elevator Boots are definitely my favourite two - and are right up there with some of the best CC songs. Really great effort from the band that almost 30 years on, they're still releasing new material of such top quality.
The piano and vocal part… between second chorus and third verse… is SO reminiscent of Springsteen’s Thunder Road - especially their version when they play a medley of Rain King and Thunder Road live! Beautiful!
Wow. Welcome back CC Loving this new stuff. And the best thing about hearing CC new songs is the urge to go and revisit the old songs. Just “lost” a couple of hours🤣
@@thatperson3653 I finally got to hear it last weekend at the Boston show, it was a hell of a show too, the whole band were so on the top of their game! Rat Kings was really great, so were Tall Grass and Angel, but Elevator Boots definitely ended up being the standout song from the suite, Adam killed it on that one!
I'm an elevator kid pushing buttons when I wanna go home But my generation hasn't even got a name of its own We just buy what the TV sells And almost never stop wishing we were somebody else But tonight in the dark I can be myself When Bobby and the Rat-Kings come to play We'll make 'em stay We'll make 'em play Play til the stars all fade We'll make 'em stay til dawn Make 'em play all night til the light Like we've never seen nuthin' Like we'll we'll never see anybody ever again When the Rat-Kings go away We'll never be the same Z tried to edit Reddit instead it said it had eaten her phone She goes from tinder to cinder Til she remembers she's a flame of her own You can almost lose your heart Hoping for something better til it tears you apart While the days get longer and this night won't start But when Bobby and the Rat-Kings come to play We'll make 'em stay We'll make 'em play Play til the stars all fade We'll make 'em stay til dawn Make 'em play all night til the light Like we've never seen nuthin' Like we'll we'll never see anybody ever again When the Rat-Kings go away We'll never be the same again Now Joey's gotta run for the train Says he's trying to make it Back to the City by ten And Mike's on his bike with the motor running I told him trains were running all night right then In the moonlit town after the bridge fell down There were fires and we lost some power So we all dressed up for the ramble And ran those streets long past the witching hour I saw Dorothy in drag Taking the Tin Man for a ride And then Z the Cat said she knew where to go Then she kissed me without a thought And said "Sometimes memories are all that we got So come on boy, let's make some at the show" So there's some leather-wrapped Fender-strapped kid With a pick-finger twitch He's got a recipe for radio or rain I don't know which In the shadows when the lights are dowsed The cinder kids flare while they twist and shout We're the sparks in the dark That'll never go out So when Bobby and the Rat-Kings come to play We'll make 'em stay We'll make 'em play Play til the stars all fade We'll make 'em stay til dawn Make 'em play all night til the light Like we've never seen nuthin' Like we'll we'll never see anybody ever again When the Rat-Kings go away We'll never be the same again
Love this song! Has that gritty 70's sound/ very boomtown rats/ springsteen-ish! Great writing too. With lines like "So there's some leather-wrapped Fender-strapped kid with a pick-finger twitch. He's got a recipe for radio or rain, I don't know which". How can you go wrong with writing like that, right?
I'm pissed off. I've only been buying CDs since the end of the '80s, I have over 10,000 at home, all made in the USA and Canada even though I'm Italian, and of course I own the entire Counting Crows discography on compact. In 2021 the band releases this beautiful Butter Miracle Suite One only in LP version and does not release the CD version. This is, in my opinion, extremely rude towards one's fans who no longer have a turntable for vinyl at home. At this point my question is simple: when will the compact disc version be released for us fans of the magical disk? I think it's a necessary solution to make peace with the band
I'm an elevator kid pushing buttons when I wanna go home But my generation hasn't even got a name of its own We just buy what the TV sells.... awesome band
I couldn't love the Counting Crows more, been a fan since Aug/After, I just think influences should be used subtly, and in a way that their there, but not so there. I listened to that song and thought, "God, it's like he has a blueprint."
Adam - CC YOU GUYS ROCK!! LOVE ALL OF IT!! ♥️ Adam thank you for singing directly to my SOUL for DECADES!! Love for all eternity!! You will live in my HEART forever!! ♥️🙌♥️
This is a total surprise. I counted three crows at the beach that came to look at me at one of the saddest places in the world. And this is like a sign from God, but I'm still insane, and there's no way out of that. But this is beautiful, and fills me with the nostalgia of past sanity. Wonderful. 💛💛💛💛💛
