In 1974 I was 11 years old and my grandpa died. My dad got to come home from Vietnam to attend the funeral. One night, while I was tucked upstairs in bed, this song came on the downstairs radio and I could hear my dad and mom talking. It was the most safe and secure I ever felt in my life. It was cold outside and I was under a quilt. And...my dad was home...away from the war. At that moment in time I felt like all was good. And now every time I hear this song it takes me back to that perfect moment.

I remember hearing this song on an 8- track tape, feeling safe enough to fall asleep in the back seat of our car while Mom and Dad were driving… hearing this song takes me RIGHT BACK.

This song came out in 1974. I was in Jr high and remember this song playing on my mom's AM/FM kitchen radio while she fixed breakfast. We didn't have cell phones or computers and we were all so busy with school, work, farm chores, church, helping our neighbors and get-togethers that our routine was to listen to the radio every morning to start our day with the weather report, traffic report, local news & events and of course, good country music from the 70's. Amazing how certain songs of our past spark such wonderful memories today. I wish I could go back to that kitchen right now, hearing songs like this playing, and wait for my dad to come in and give me a mile long list of chores to do.

I love this precious song. My only baby boy was only ten months old when we used to listen to this together. He loved this song!! My Moma and Daddy and Husband and my Brother and Sisters all enjoyed this song!! Most of them are now gone, but the beautiful memories remain forever with us. ❤

I also grew up on a farm. No phone, no car, B&W TV. Had to perform daily chores. Grew up to obtain a MS IN BIOLOGY, MHA and a Medical Degree. Grew up listening to this type of music. At 74 still going strong. Love this song.

This is my Grandma's favorite song and she calls me her little "Country Bumpkin." This year has been rough for her though. Man I love my grandma! Thank God I have her!

You are indeed blessed, Abby. Remember to never take your Grandmother for granted, and never put off spending time with her because you are just to busy. Too soon the frost will be gone!

My lord this brings tears I had no idea this would conjure up old memories of my wife who died at 43 from Breast cancer. True love never dies, does it.

I was in grade school when this came out, but it brings back fond memories of time spent with my grandparents. They were both Cal Smith fans, so I heard this song along with "The Lord Knows I'm Drinking" and "It's Time to Pay the Fiddler" a lot. This guy started out as Ernest Tubb's guitarist, and he was pretty talented. A shame he's not remembered more today.
