Authentic retro feel and sound captures genuine piece of home brewed Americana. Makes me wish I could drive my '52 Chevy down to the soda fountain and order up a rootbeer float and hamburger. I really dig it and feel that sweet bygone vibe in the air.
John Barry Thank you brother John! Yes sir..some great time capsule packed away in that tune! Always good to see you about! Hey, no time like the present!! Some day we will look back on these as the good old days! Have fun man and post more often! RG
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL playing. Wow. And what a beautiful sounding guitar. And that's the bridge pickup? So full and balanced. Nothing too brittle, thin or sharp. Just the perfect amount of twang. Amazing video.
+corncaster Thank you! Appreciate the listen and nice compliment. This is about the only Barnes tune I would attempt at this point. It only takes about 45 times through!~ Nice weekend to you. RG
Well you sure have me gassing for that Carr Impala amp. Seems like that would be a hell of a grab and go amp for almost any kind of gig. Sure brings out your playing dynamics really well. Great playing as always . I love this clip !
Thank you sir! I can't agree more! It's a perfect allrounder and more. It takes pedals really well and most of all sounds great with any guitar. Vintage hand-wired Bassman circuit with a master volume and a bit more headroom. Classic lineage!
Good job, great sound. I think GB deserves a little more recognition here though. This is a note-for-note cover of a tune by George Barnes. If you like it, check out the entire album "Country Jazz", recorded in 1959.
Thank you Big Bud! Appreciate the listen and the comment! Yes, the tune and album is in the description! It's a favorite. I have the new re-release CD and the new Vinyl 12" reprint of Country Jazz. Cheers, RG
Spectacular!!!!!!!! There is nothing like a nice big slice of some fresh hot Rodney Gene Jr. pickin! Excellent sounding pick-ups! What gauge strings are on this guitar? Ever use flats? You and your band should get booked in England on Jools Holland's show "Later..." He'd love you Thanks for the magic!
Tom K Thanks Tom, always nice to hear your comments. Thanks for listening! Flatwounds? Yes, 90% of the time. This guitar here has Thomastik Infeld 12 gauge Jazz Swing flats, I also use Pyramid hex core. I am moving up to 13 flats soon for a couple guitars.
Ron Marshall Thank you Ron, I appreciate the listen! Yes, have some tabs on my site here: rodneygene.wordpress.com/free-lessons/ mostly country chicken picken style.
Apologies for the delay in responding to this! Thank you for the nice comment and the listen! I appreciate it! Contact me directly through my website rodneygene.wordpress.com/ and i'll send you the backing track! Cheers!
Awesome Rodney! I discovered you when looking for Carr amp demos and just love ypour style. Im leaning towards a Carr Impala- Vintage Sound amps are very nice as well. Do you find the I mpala gives you enough clean headroom for live gigs?
Hey Alan, thank you! Appreciate the great words and support! Impala is phenomenal for gigging. 44w is very generous for headroom. It easily handles 1000 person venues. Although the Impala does not have that immediate 'wow' factor when you first plug in, it has the 'it' tone. I always go back to this amp as my #1 choice. Have fun! Cheers! RG
