A journey is an understatement. Bro sleep token is a whole ass experience. And they make you re think the way you already believe genres can blend They are super exciting as someone who loves music. This band fucks
Well, welcome to Sleep Token. I could write a huge commentary about their music and how incredible they are, but I'm sure you'll understand that when you listen to their other songs. What you need to know is this: There are four members in this band. This band is completely anonymous. They wear masks, no one knows their names or what they look like, and they don't talk at live shows. Vessel is the vocalist, he writes all the music himself. The lyrics, the piano, the guitar - it's all him. II is the drummer, he only writes the drum line. III and IV are bass and eight-string guitar, they don't write music, they just play live. Almost all of their songs are the same as "The Summoning", there's no need to assign genres to them. I would recommend listening to the songs "Ascensionism" and "Take Me Back to Eden", they are unreal. Worship.
10:54 this is one of 3 songs over 6 mins long on the album, the other two are Ascensionism and Take Me Back To Eden. Highly recommend checking those two out!
I swear, EVERY SINGLE TIME! XD I love watching noobs reacting to this song, because EVERY TIME we get to the change-up you get to SEE their minds literally EXPLODE.
The thing that impresses me most is that all instruments on the recording except drums are played by the singer. They have a touring guitarist and bassist, but on the albums it's really just the two of them.
@@ryanclune3883 From Wikipedia "The lead singer and primary songwriter of the band is known by the moniker "Vessel".[65] Vessel and II are the only members of the band who have been credited as performers on Sleep Token's studio albums. II is also the only member apart from Vessel who has been given songwriting credits." I agrre that it is absolutely insane and also a testament to not only Vessel's talent, but how amazing a drummer ii is that he trusts him to write those parts. I try not to give out too much info for privacy's sake, but I'm pretty sure Vessel also performed most of the music on his previous project which also featured the woman most of Sleep Token's songs are about. They were mostly recorded with limited access to equipment and they sound pretty great if very different stylistically from Sleep Token.
@@ryanclune3883I tried to comment but it appears it got lost....from Wikipedia "The lead singer and primary songwriter of the band is known by the moniker "Vessel".[65] Vessel and II are the only members of the band who have been credited as performers on Sleep Token's studio albums. II is also the only member apart from Vessel who has been given songwriting credits. " I am almost sure he played the majority of the instruments on his previous project that I don't usually talk about for privacy's sake. Very different vibes than Sleep Token, but it is musically rich despite the limited access to equipment and being recorded at home. But from the ashes of that duo (and the breakup of the romantic relationship with his band mate), we got three pretty wonderful albums.
Jaws is an old song of their's worth checking out. Being a singer you might also enjoy their song Bloodsport, specifically the "from the room below" version. And it has a real video. Just a heads up, Sleep Token is an anonymous band, so they wear masks while performing.
The start of EPs to the end of this album is such an amazing journey. They don’t have a single bad song and if you really are into it, I recommend listining in order 🔥🙏🏻
Your reaction randomly popped up and I'm glad I clicked on the video. One of my favorite reactions to this band so far. Your knowledge of technique and theory brings a refreshing element to these types of videos (you know what you are talking about).
I love how almost all reactions for this song are the same like at first "that's a nice voice" and then "ah there it is, the scream" after that "oh he can go high" and last but not least "wtf"
some of their songs are even longer (8+ mins) with even more switch ups they are very genre-fluid and a breath of fresh air to not only metal but other genres as well The entirety of "Take me back to eden" is a whole album experience. Whats more is that is the third album of a trillogy that ends with a callback to the first song on sundowning. Take away the masks and lore and they are still absolutely brilliant
The beginning portion of the song reminds me of something off of the "Titan A.E." soundtrack. If you've seen the movie, you'll know what I'm talking about. It's a good animated movie with good voice actors
Yeah, it’s crazy how they take so many genres and smash them together to make one beautiful sound. Whatever you want to call them, stylistically, I just know that it’s one of the best things I’ve ever heard.
Sleep Token is my favorite band🖤 they have a few songs that switch up this much, like their song Take Me Back to Eden has a good “roller coaster” feel to it, and they usually switch genres at least once in most of their songs, but they also have some songs that kinda stay in one lane for the entirety of it. I love that they can do heavy music like Vore and Gods, but they can also do beautiful ballads like Blood Sport, The Way That You Were, and Drag Me Under🙌🏼 the range in this band’s abilities and Vessel’s vocals are so impressive, I never get bored of listening to them🫶🏼
This band is so good. I can’t listen to their albums all the way through, there isn’t a skipper in the bunch. Loosley makes me think of Dark Side of The Moon by Pink Floyd.
Most people are recommending another sleep token song from this album BUT I think you should listen through this album in order! Or even go back 2 albums and start there for the full sleep token experience! ALSO...if you haven't heard of Ren...he's an absolute must as well. He's a musical genius. A lot of reactors start with Hi Ren, then go to The Tale of Jenny and Screech (the long video on his RU-vid chanel that has all 3 parts) then the 3 part Money Game series. He's phenomenal
Their guitarist (IV) plays both 8 strings and a baritone/bass VI tuned down to normally double drop D#/drop D#1 with some of their songs like rain even being played all the way down into double drop A/drop A0
Gods, Vore, Take Me Back To Eden, Hypnosis. Oh my god they are so good for heavy vocals / screaming. Vessel has such good control of his vocals you’re right! Glad to see you join the Sleep Token community. Worship.
Hahaha Matthew, welcome to Sleep Token, it’s good to have you around. ☺️ Make sure to check out the rest of the “Take Me Back To Eden” album. It’s an absolute masterpiece.
Take close look at the lyrics because the chorus in the song is played in different ways from the heavy beginning and then the funky at the end. Genius. All of their songs are worth a listen, but also pair with the lyrics!
You should check out Whitechapel, particularly stuff off their latest album Kin. I Will Find You, Lost Boy, Anticure, History Is Silent, or the title track Kin are all good starts if you’re not into super heavy music.
Sleep Token is absolutely amazing. I highly suggest their entire catalog. There is no such thing as a bad Sleep Token song. It is a true rollercoaster of emotions. Look up the lore behind them as well. Vessel (vocals) does all the music except for drums which is done by II. The other band mates just perform live from what I have heard.
I always love a new reactor waiting for a breakdown, then the funk starts!! 😂 This isn't a one off, all their songs are good there's no album fillers. I saw several excellent suggestions scrolling thru comments but i need to checkout country metal.
This group is AMAZING. They don't fit into any genre. My daughter played the song "Alkaline" for me 6 months ago and I had to listen to every song they had afterwards and now I'm addicted. I would recommend listening to "Take me back to Eden" for sure. I know it's a long one but seriously...the songwriting skill and production and atmosphere of that song is just unmatched. It's a masterpiece. Also, I agree with whoever recommended "Blood Sport...the room below version" video. It's just Vessel and his piano and vocals and it's powerful. Not to be missed. I'm subbing for hopefully more Sleep Token reactions and I'm going to check out your original music right now. 😁
Vessel the lead singer used to be in a Gospel band. You can definitely tell him and the Drummer II have gospel influences in their music. Not so much this song. You definitely need to check out more of their catalog.
The Sleep Army is here. They don't have a genre, so they became one. All of their songs are different and Forrest Gump's chocolates have nothing on Sleep Token. Every song is unexpected and you never know what you are gonna get but literally every song is amazing. Welcome to the journey to your new favorite band 😊
I'd recommend Chokehold and Hypnosis in addition to some of the other ones already mentioned, I'd also be intrigued to see you react to Lorna Shore To the Hellfire, and after that, their vocalist Will Ramos who has insane skill with vocals also does a couple of covers of Sleep Token that are phenomenal.
Their albums are written very deliberately so although each song holds up on its own they have even more impact as a part of the whole composition. I'm a metal head and usually like more intense stuff, but by the end of this album when Euclid comes on it is just perfect. I'd enjoy a reaction to that song but again without the rest of the album leading up to it, it just doesn't hit the same. Fun reaction! Try out Lorna Shore sometime too!
Definitely a roller coaster ride for most songs ..’the Take Me Back To Eden album especially.. highly recommend the title track, Ascensionism and Granite for a complete view of their styles .. maybe Alkaline as well off a previous album
If you decide to delve into this band just know vessel is like an onion, many layers. Vessel is a musical genus for real, I am so glad to have found ST. Please don’t try to put them in a specific genre because they are their own genre. Dude is literally MUSIC They have three albums that tell a complete story . I’d actually start with This Place Will Become Your Tomb and go from there
Maybe its just the little Texan girl in me, but theres a certain itch in my brain only country music can scratch. Im saying this because while it may not be a big part of the video, that song in the beginning scratched my brain and was good 😅
Not all of their songs are like this, but they're generally very experimental and genre-bending. Some songs are just straight up indie-pop songs. A few songs are much heavier and more straight forwardly prog metal tracks. And then there are a good few that mix the two up, or maybe throw in some RnB or trap elements just for fun.
I love seeing reactions when it hits that funky part. Everyone is just like 😮. If you do more Jericho and Nazareth from their early works is so good. The offering, Blood sport, Gods ( if you’re wanting to hear something on the heavier side) and Higher all on the sundowning album. Atlantic, alkaline, descending, like that, hypnosis from the album This place will become your tomb. Rain, ascensionism, granite, vote, aqua Regia, take me back to Eden, chokehold from Take me back to Eden and for the stand alone Jaws!
First video of yours. I knew it was going to be a good reaction when you noticed how low the guitars were and the scale in the solo. This band is very versatile and the singer is really the main writer behind the songs. I feel this song doesn't show his vocals very well so I'd say Ascensionism, Atlantic, or hypnosis next.
I think this is a good introduction song to the band, but definitely check out the earlier stuff. I'd also recommend not listening to Euclid until you've heard all the other songs first. There's a payoff to knowing the earlier works when it comes to that song. The Offering, Alkaline, Calcutta, Dark Signs, definitely go for the earlier works. Take Me Back To Eden is a great album, but I feel new fans are missing a lot if they go directly to that album first.
Sub from me. Can't wait to see you react to more. Ascensionism, the love that you want, rain, atlantic, higher, give, levitate, jaws, the offerring ..... etc just pick any of their songs lol
Blows my mind on how many reactors have become trained on the length of a song. Anything over three minutes is wrong by typical recording artists including all genres. They all have to have a song structure and time signatures must conform. So when a 6-8 minute song comes along it blows their mind. Are you serious? Do you not Metallica? Have you ever Lynrd Skynrd'd a Freebird? I mean Innagadadavida Baby! Crazy how fast laned music is cultured now by recording studios. Its gross seeing how many people are lab rats now and cant just enjoy a vibe. Also notice these reactors dont say anything about the song being too long after theyre done listening to it (Sleep Token at least). Imagine that record execs! On the reaction, i thought you did well. I dont listen to new country because it feels like injecting cancer into my ear drum, but i do respect you as an artist and hope you get as many Taylor Swift fans as you can when you go on tour with her soon 😅. Keep up the good work homie.
Funny thing is he lives in Ontario Canada I live in the same province across the river from Michigan but he is a country singer I’ve seen him perform live
Im sorry but I’ve been listening to em for like 5yrs , 11:56 seen em live n they’re dope but … buddy ur reaction video was just … nah leme be nice ya kinda annoyed df outa me! In a nice way…
