0:00 - Colonial Brazil 0:07 - 0:26 - First French invasion of Portugal (1807), the Portuguese royal family fled to Brazil. 0:41 - Brazil ceases to be a colony and forms a united kingdom with Portugal. 0:56 - Portugal annexed the Banda Oriental in 1812. 1:00 - Pernambuco Revolution (1817). The province of Pernambuco tries to become an independent republic, but fails. 1:11 - Portugal is released. The Portuguese people feel abandoned by the royal family in Brazil and a revolution takes place, making the king return to Portugal, now being a constitutional monarchy. The constitutionalists tries to make Brazil a colony again. 1:39 - Brazilian war of independence (1822-1824) 1:54 - The Brazilian Empire (1822-1889) is born. 2:05 - Cisplatine War (1825-1828). Argentina tries to annex the Banda Oriental with (which used to be part of the provinces of Rio Grande do Sul and Cisplatina) with help from rebels but fails. Nobody wins the war and Cisplatin becomes independent Uruguay. 2:41 - Farroupilha Revolution (1835-1845). The province of Rio Grande do Sul becomes independent for some time, but is annexed. 2:51 - Platine War (1851-1852). The Argentine confederation tries to take over territories from the former Vice Reino do Prata, but is stopped by Brazil, Uruguay and some provinces in revolt against the regime of dictator Juan Manuel de Rosas. 3:12 - Uruguay War (1864-1865). A civil war breaks out in Uruguay between the Blanco party and the Colorado party. Brazil supports the Colorado party. 3:21 - 4:02 - The War of Paraguay, or War of the Triple Alliance (1864-1870). The bloodiest war in South America. 4:12 - A small group of soldiers carried out a coup and established the first Brazilian republic (1899-1930). 4:33 - Acre revolution (1899-1903). A part of Bolivia declares independence to be annexed to Brazil. 4:45 - Contestado War (1912-1914). Basically a civil war between two states over a CONTESTED region (hence the name of the war). Then, a bunch of religious people proclaim a heavenly monarchy, but they are massacred. 4:54 - Brazil joins WWI and kills some dolphins at Gibraltar. 5:03 - Christ the Redeemer is ffinished. 5:14 - The 1929 crisis hits the agrarian and coffee economy in Brazil. 5:17 - Several soldiers, tired of being ruled by the corrupt oligarchy, overthrew the government in the 1930 Revolution and put Getúlio Vargas in power, starting the Vargas Era (1930-1945). 5:23 - 6:07 - Vargas remains neutral in WWII, making deals with both sides, until he goes to war on the Allied side in 1942, sending an army of 25,000 men to Italy. 6:09 - Brazil is one of the founding members of the UN. 6:16 - Vargas, after ruling for 15 years (8 of those being a dictator) is deposed by the same people who put him in power (1945). 6:20 - The fourth Brazilian Republic is created, called the Populist Republic. 6:23 - Brasília is created. 6:27 - President João Goulart is deposed in the 1964 military coup, starting the Brazilian Military Dictatorship (1964-1985). 6:34 - Brazil intervenes in the Dominican Civil War with the help of the USA. 6:47 - The "Brazilian economic miracle" happens. 6:49 - Diretas Já happen, a campaign to end the dictatorship and make the Brazilian people elect a president. 6:52 - The dictatorship ends in 1985, the military leaves power. 7:00 - The Republica Nova, or Sixth Brazilian Republic, was created in 1985, and still exists today. 7:05 - Mercosul/Mercosur is created (1991). 7:12 - BRICS is created (2006).
