It was my first time doing a homestay experience in the countryside of Japan but it sure was a very memorable and eye opening experience for me.
If you also want to stay here, email my friends at Akita Inu Tourism and they can help you contact Ishigaki-san and book for you in Japanese :) (English friendly - yay!)
akitainu.tourism@gmail.com
After Ishigaki-san retires, she wants to do this kind of homestay experience more and introduce more people to the beauty of the country side.
Here are all the activities I did in Akita:
bit.ly/2Zzl4R7
I hope this video gave you some insight on what life can be like in the countryside of Japan! I love the countryside more as it's less explored by tourists so you really can see this "raw" kind of Japan and understand the local culture and history more.
Each prefecture has it's own speciality and history so what better way to immerse yourself in the culture than to try a homestay experience? :) I know a lot of you are worried if you can't speak Japanese but honestly you will be fine! It's not the language that matters, it's the connection between two people so step out of your comfort zone and try it. Japanese people in the countryside tend to be very friendly too and I'm sure they will give you a helping hand if you are lost even if they don't speak English.
If you do decide to go, let me know how your experience was and also tell Ishigaki-san I said hi! Hopefully she remembers me?! LOL
Have a good weekend everyone!!

She's 63 now but is very healthy and happy :) (she walks a lot faster than me :P) she actually owns her own shop(business) and does that for her main job but when she retires she wants to do this homestay experience more and show more people the countryside life. I really hope through this video it can reach more people and help her fulfil her dreams.

I love hiking in Japan, one of the main reasons is seeing the older Japanese hike up and down hills and mountains. They are so at peace and healthy. It is truly amazing and here in America we would learn so much from them.

A dream... I have always loved the Japanese, Japan, their style of life in the outskirts, the respect they have, and honor they hold. Since I was very young I loved ANYTHING Japanese... I now live in Madrid, Spain, mostly lived all my life in California. If I could I would live in Japan form a family there and learn as much as I could from the people there. And live a simple life for the rest of my days... A very nice video indeed, thank you so much for sharing :-)

This was by far the most interesting and heart warming video I've ever seen since I started watching vlogs about food and culture and travelling videos about Japan 3 years ago. It matched my interests perfectly, I don't know if I ever will make it to Japan even it's my biggest dream but this experience would be absolutely what I'm looking for. Don't get me wrong, Tokyo or other big cities are interesting, but I'm living rural and I need nature and silence to be happy, exploring such a pearl is my nr.1 on my bucket list, would love to listen to the her stories about life (well, needing a translator friend lol) s this video was just genius to be able to understand. I can't thank you enough, I just wish this can be preserved for many generations from now, such a lovely woman I hope she can be forever happy.

I know you said you don't need to know Japanese to stay there but I can't help but think it would be imposing and uncomfortable for the people when they have to struggle to have basic communication with you. Just came from a different video where I said my countryside home isn't enticing enough then this; I watched this and it reminds me of all the good aspects of the countryside we forget while grinding in concrete jungles. Heartwarming af.

Yes! We forget to appreciate the smaller things in life and start to take things for granted. It's all a matter of how you look at it :)

Yeah, she was so kind and genuine. A lot of the locals I met on this trip had their own businesses but they the main purpose wasn't just for making money which I found really nice :) in the city, that's all the business men are thinking about haha $$

What a fantastic experience you had. I just want to hug the obachan!! Genuinely nice lady who has a big heart and knows the real meaning of omotenashi. Not only visitors from overseas, I hope Japanese also have a chance to experience something like this money cannot buy. I totally understand how you felt "やっぱり田舎は良いですね〜"
