The US military in WW2 estimated that if the US invaded mainland Japan that there could be as many as 2 million US casualties , hence they dropped the a-bombs instead .

Yeah and as odd as it sounds the atomic bombs probably saved millions of American and Japanese lives

I think American is just cowards and scared of Japan at that time so they dropped the bomb bc Japan does not have it.

Bill Wurtz mispronounces baekje for comedic purpose. It's pronounced "pek jeh", the "pek" being slightly like "pack".
@FuckYoutubeAndGoogle
@FuckYoutubeAndGoogle 11 месяцев назад
If Pek is like Pack, then it's not like Pek, is it?
@zakthedemonlord
@zakthedemonlord 11 месяцев назад
Well, your logic works for English, but the matter of the fact is that sound in "pek" 백 doesn't exist in English. It's an eh with an a noise. So, it's pek, but slightly similar to pack. How else am I supposed to explain a sound of Korean to English speakers in writing only? 아이구, 너무 어려워~!@@FuckRU-vidAndGoogle

@@zakthedemonlord I would use IPA (Korean): [pɛk̚.t͈ɕe]. While it won't mean anything to most people looking at it, anyone interested can check a source like [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Korean]. Not all sounds exist in any given language, but linguists do have ways to describe sounds across languages.

If you are trying to spread and teach culture, I don't see the point in pronouncing places and names incorrectly, just for "fun". I enjoy American humor most of the time, I practically grew up with it, but that kind of jokes just seems silly to me.

You two reacting to Oversimplified will be good since it seems like Ash is going to like that style of explaining historic events and you two could check out some of Bill Wurtz's other videos as at least most (I haven't watched all of them) are just little songs he made in a similar style to his 2 history videos that you've watched.

Might be wrong but I read that the nukes actually weren’t necessary, or potentially one of them wasn’t, Japan had already surrendered just before either the first or second bomb dropped

I am a born and raised Portsmouthian? Man for Portsmouth? Anywho, the neighboring island to Portsmouth, NH USA is New Castle. Long story short, the Wentworth Hotel in New Castle, NH is where Russo-Sino armistice was signed. Thank you. Yes, I know...I am awesome for having been born here.

I've always disliked the phrase "history is written by the victors" because it's only true when the victory is so complete that no one else is left. Most of the time history is written by the neighbours to the conflict. It's biased, but not necessarily the way you might expect. For example, the Western idea of the Persian invasion of Ancient Greece is based on the account of Herodotus, who actually tried to include accurate detail rather than myth. But in the modern era we also have writings from other Greek historians who disagreed with Herodotus' account (eg. Plutarch), Sicilian historians, Persian accounts, and even some scraps from other empires at the time. The size of the armies especially is something that is contested across different writers. Re: Your lost continent talk at the beginning. The important thing to realise about these discussions is that they are based on ideas that were proposed before modern understanding of natural sciences. The example I like is Lemuria. In 1864, zoologist Philip Sclater suggested there was a lost continent beneath the Indian Ocean to explain why there are lemurs in Madagascar and India but nowhere else. Later the theory was adapted by occultists to explain human origins. Of course, the whole theory was discredited as soon as we developed the theories of plate tectonics and continental drift. Lemurs are in both places because Madagascar used to be connected to India but is on the African plate. When the drift happened, the small population of lemur ancestors was split into two separate groups. Atlantis is even worse. We know that Plato created Atlantis and there is no suggestion he or anyone else thought it was ever real, although we're not sure if he borrowed from older stories. It was a popular fiction, though, so many other authors copied and used it. Again, the idea of Atlantis being a real place didn't become popular until the rise of occultism 19th century.

Today there has been no more purple heart medals made because they made so many for invading Japan and until this day we haven't needed to make any more because of the A-Bombs dropped. It would have taken THAT many lives to take the main island without it.

Ash is right - abiogenesis is a field full of guess work and educated guesses I did my Chemistry degree forty years ago and we had a chemistry of life course and it was mostly wrong looking in hindsight because we have more knowledge about mechanisms and potential mechanisms for generating self-replicating organisms. I take the view that all science is provisional in its nature and when we take it as a fixed monolith of truth then we have problems. The guy doing the video had an interesting take on 백제 which is two syllables in Korean baeg-je rather than pronouncing it like a Dutch word which he does. The winds that destroyed the Mongol forces invading were called by the Japanese the "Divine Winds" or Kamikaze shame he didn't mention that.
