Rengoku is not the strongest Demon Slayer/Hashira. He's somewhere around in the middle between the 9 Hashiras, but his personality is definitely one of the best. People can love him from just this one film. He was only 20 years old, so technically he would still have more room to improve and become stronger. Great reaction, thanks guys!
Rengoku was not being weird there it was considered one of the samurai cultures to thank their meal, they were taught to respect the food given to them because it could have been their last meal
True , its not only samurai. The way to have less stress and actually have fun living is appreciated everything that you have no matter if its food , your home , friends and family. Even a smallest thing can makes you happy. I've learned that if you're having a hard time , theres might be much worse situation that people have to challenge than you.
The thing that his mother told him was actually kinda fitting. They haven't said it explicitely but there are families that have dedicated their lives through generations to slaying demons, the Rengoku family is one of them, that's why his mother gave him such a heavy task and told him to always put his life on the line for the weaker, since she already knew he was going to become a warrior when he was older anyway. Also Rengoku was 20 when he died. RIP to the goat
That’s amazing. I also like to think of it in our own lives too. Those are born with certain talents should use them to help and create a better world for those who don’t have the means.
I think what his mother told was fitting, but was delivered in kind of a cheesy way lol but after all it’s anime, that’s kind of normal in shounen at this point
You could also apply what his mother says to life in general. Doesn't have to be strictly with slaying demons. If you're born strong, capable of many wonderful things, you should use that gifts for the sake of those who cannot help themselves and non-selfish reasons and desires. If you're born strong and all you do is help those who are already strong, there's no gain to it other than a constant division between people. No one wants that.
Imagine having a screentime of like 30-40 minutes and be remembered forever in the demon slayer fandom. Truly a remarkable child. Set your heart ablaze
Just saying, the oldest person amongst the Hashria's is the big crying monk Gyomei, and he's only 27. So... everyone is extremly young, also the master is about 22-23
Steph was close, but Rengoku was only 20 years old when he died, which is absolutely horrible. We lost someone so young who was an absolute amazing human being. It really just wasn’t fair
@@boonboon89 I would like you to elaborate on why, in your opinion, the death of a fictitious character is so different from that of a "real" person, to the point that it makes you laugh when someone mourns the death of a fictitious person.
The reason why Rengoku didn't have a good dream was because he was content with how his father was, he accepted the way his father acted and doesn't let it discourage him.
The reason why Rengoku's dream felt so weird was because everyone was in their own dream of what they wanted but wasn't their reality, Rengoku's was, his dream was his reality meaning he was living his own dream, he was happy with his life, it didn't feel like a normal happy dream because typically they're not based in reality, it wasn't a good dream, it was a dream that was real
@@adityasharma0376 I can agree tbh. The only time tho he was like truly soft (spoiler do not read if you haven’t finished the manga) was at the end when he patted nezuko on the head when he remembered his little bro genya. I Lowkey teared up at the moment no gonna lie
By the way the 11th form in water breathing is exclusive to Giyu. The water breathing technique has only 10 forms, but Giyu created a new one while he was a Hashira. Even Urokodaki doesn't know that form.
Rengoku was 20. Surprisingly, Giyu is 1 year older than he is. The one who is 18 is Shinobu, who is 2-3 years older than our main squad (Inosuke is the youngest I think and Zenitsu is the oldest of the trio). It is tragic how even the strongest demon slayers are quite young, we haven’t seen an unretired demon slayer in their 30s or above. You could expect Hashiras to live way longer since lower moons have nothing on them, but it’s possible they don’t because of run-ins with upper moons that kill them off before they can reach their max potential, like with Rengoku. I wonder how old Urokodaki was when he retired, same with Zenitsu’s master. Thankfully he retired before fighting any upper moons XD I wonder how many Hashiras were killed personally by Muzan though. If he even bothered to kill any instead of just running away and sending other demons after. It does bring up the question of if Giyu would survive if he got to Tanjiro’s family earlier. Would Muzan have just dipped or would he have decimated Giyu? I guess it depends on how cautious (*ahem*cowardly*ahem*) the author wants Muzan to be.
It speaks deeply about how messed up Rengoku's family life is that his deepest wish, what he truly wanted, was to go home and tell his father what he'd done...and have his father ignore him.
I would say that rather it shows more of a state of Buddhist enlightenment. Everyone else dreams of how they wish the world was. But from the Buddhist perspective, that’s merely delusion. Rengoku wholeheartedly accepts the world as it is, but doesn’t let that reality extinguish the flame of his heart. Thus Enmu can’t show him anything other than the world as it is.
The thing about Rengoku is he never went through formal training, he was a self taught swordsman by only reading the guide books of previous Hashira's. Yes his father thought him the basics of how to swing a sword and hold it when he was a child but that's it. Also you are correct in thinking he was young, he was only 20. And from my personal opinion I feel Akaza (the upper 3 demon) was essentially playing with is food during the fight. Watching it a 2nd time from a martial artists POV I feel he was toying with Rengoku a little, he was having too much fun. Love your reactions and can't wait for season 2, it is a roller coaster.
Akaza wasn't trying at all he probably didn't even consider it a proper sparring match until Rengoku used Esoteric Art. Akaza only used his weakest techniques during that fight and limited his speed, regeneration and other senses greatly simply because he just wanted to talk with Rengoku.
@Spie akaza technique devastating death and compass = from the moment the technique starts, the higher the opponent's fighting spirit, the more powerful the user becomes. akaza told rengoku that his martial spirit is fully sharpened near the highest realms, so akaza doesn't seem to be making any effort as rengoku's martial spirit is very high. But despite this, he inflicted great wounds on the akaza's body and when he was about to die, the upper moon restrained his pure strength and forced him to flee because the akaza could not pull out his arms by his own power.
Never seen your channel before but Wes, your emotions connecting with expectations of parents and responcibilities show you're probably a man who went through such trials growing up. Thanks for sharing your tears.
Thank you for actually crying! too many people on here not crying knowing full well theyre trying as hard as they can to not cry! This is one of the saddest movie scenes ive ever seen just watching it always gets me! Keep up the content
Not everyone feels like crying. I didn't, but that's probably because I read it and not watched it. Idk if it would have changed anything cuz Rengoku didn't have enough screen time to get me attached
you've now experienced the rengoku effect. i love how in one movie they made a character so loved by the fans without doing much, loved the reaction as always and it would great to see your reaction to a silent voice.
That was a really great reaction. Just want to let you know that, Akaza was not trying to kill Rengoku. He had percieved the strong fighting spirit and sword wielding skill of Rengoku. So Akaza had deemed Rengoku as worthy and did not want his skill to go waste just by getting him gradually old then dying. If Akaza was really a blood thirsty and cannibal demon, then he would have killed Rengoku with ease. Upper rank demons are known for killing Hashiras and Akaza is top three of them who have been killing Hashiras for centuries. but why is Akaza like that, why he is obsessed with fighting, why he hates the weak? you will get know in the future and really hoping to see you guys shedding tears for Akaza when his backstory get Animated🙂 btw Your reaction was one of the best. seems like you guys have enjoyed every moment of this movie.
@@task.failed.successfully1849 I agree. In my opinion, among all the 6 upper rank demons, Upper moon 3 Akaza and Upper moon 1 Kokushibo have their own (good) personality.
No doubt that if Akaza was going for the kill right away, he’d have won quickly. But, to say Akaza wasn’t trying to kill him is also false. Akaza was trying to recruit him in the beginning, then once he realized Rengoku’s resolve was firm, he decided to kill him. Also, even though Akaza is much stronger, there’s no doubt that Rengoku managed to overpower him at the end. All this without having yet reached his prime, and without unleashing big destructive moves. Spoilers Or without even having yet achieved the mark, the See through world, or the Red Nichirin sword. With those, he would have most definitely bodied Akaza.
@@ThePhantomRisk thanks for letting me know. I have realized that Akaza was sent there to kill All Demon Slayers (Rengoku, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inusuke) by Muzan because Akaza was nearby. btw I am ok with spoiler. Rengoku had fought well with his will power to save others. he had no Demon Slayer mark, no Transparent world access, no Red Nichirin Sword..
Seriously, you're reading the manga with your ass, I guess you don't even know what the compass is for, probably from the moment he starts his technique, he doesn't hold back because as the rengoku said in the martial spirit akazan, it is the rengoku that sees the strongest side of the akazan because he is in the high realms.
Rengoku was 20 years old when he died btw Also, Upper 3 wasn't trying at all, up until the sun started rising. He was just trying to convince Rengoku to become a demon, and he was basically just toying with him. Just shows how incredibly strong the upper moons are.
SPOILERS AHEAD*******: He wasn't even trying when the sun started rising, if he was actually serious he could have used any leg technique to kill Rengoku on the spot and free himself
@@CastleOfAvalon If Akaza was truly serious he could have used Final Form: Blue Silver Chaotic Afterglow, which can literally negate and hit Giyu through Dead Calm
@@spie6076 aha, we tell that he seriously wanted to escape and not thst he fought seriously. He fears the sun, and ran immediately away after he detached himself from Rengoku. No one can tell me that he his fear and stress was casual
@@spie6076 I believe that the moment he saw the sun crawling over the tree line, he stopped thinking clearly. And was just trying to pull away in a kneejerk reaction, instead of pausing, thinking logically, and just kicking Rengoku in half, or dunno, just lifting him off his feet and running away with him in tow, if Kyojuro wishes to hold on to him so much. He definitely has way more than enough strength to manhandle a typical, if ripped male.
@@userK77920 And you have the best shot at surviving an encounter with him. If you're a woman - it's smooth sailing. And if you're weak - he's not gonna touch you with a ten foot pole, unless you're specifically on his shit list.
Hey Wes and Steph! Just wanted to say your anime reactions are great. You have great personalities and it's interesting to hear your opinions and responses about what's happening on the screen. I really enjoy watching your videos, because it makes me relive the emotions I've felt the first time I watched these episodes. When you were crying over Rengoku's death I also couldn't hold back my tears, even though I knew it was gonna happen, because I could see in your reaction how emotionally attached you got to his character and how heartbroken you were over his death. I am glad that you genuinely enjoy these shows and get really invested in these stories. Anyway, have a great day and I can't wait to see you guys react to the next season!
The craziest thing to me about this fight is that it doesn’t matter that Rengoku had been fighting already. At full strength he still would’ve lost in my opinion. Cause Akaza wasn’t even trying in this fight. He literally was holding back in order to give himself time to try to convince Rengoku to become a demon. The most demon-like Akaza looked in this fight is when he punched through Rengoku. If you look at his face, there is no emotion. Stone face. Unlike the rest of the fight. I think Rengoku attack caught him so off guard, that Akaza got serious for a second. It also showed me that when Akaza cracked Rengoku ribs he could’ve punch through him there and when he punched him in the eye. He could’ve taken half his face off. The fact that Akaza wanted to to be buddies with Rengoku saved all of their lives. Cause he probably kills all of them there before the sun comes up if goes all out.
Bro fax If akaza was trying he would've used his compass to it's full extent and he gets stronger when I person has a high fighting spirit and rengoku is literally the definition of fighting spirit
And when u see how Rengoku got on the trains is even worst he spend all the night before chasing another demon so he got practically no rest that meal was his first rest in like I think 2 days. It was a unfair fight from the very beginning. Rengoku we love u
their reaction is what I expected.. the Guy tearing up with all his heart... and the girl, just screaming and ( I believe) barely understanding what's going on.
I love Steph's innocence, hoping something good will happen towards the end. This movie just set the tone of how truly strong the Upper Moons are and I'm glad to move onto S2 reactions! Wes is literally me 😢 I get so emotional especially building up to the moments but like always love y'all reactions.
Man you are really a kind hearted I can tell cuz u cried like a Lil baby just like how I cried when I watched it for the first time :( lotta people says that rengoku ain't the strongest Hashira fak 'em all who cares he's strongest or not, for me he's the strongest and coolest character of all time, R.I.P my man Rengoku 💔
@@Spark-pe7vw because he can. By the end of the manga all the hashiras become way stronger to prepare for the big battle. without any more spoilers that's all i can say. That's why i said "at this point in the story"
Why am I crying??!!??!! aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhh. I knew what was going to happen. I've seen this twice already and read the manga like atleast 5 times. Still cried. Why? Why? Why? 😭😭you know, they aired this in our college and I thought that would be when I don't cry cause I was watching it with a bunch of strangers, I didn't think I'd ugly sob in the presence of others. Guess what? Nope. Still sobbed, sobbed my heart out. Like full-on ugly crying. Wasn't alone either. Tons of ppl were sobbing by the end. It kinda warmed my heart too. A friend who watched anime for the first time ever came with. He said it was really cool animation and great story, I was glad that his first experience with anime. Excuse me I need to go cry a bit more.
Akaza is such a cool character and so strong as well cause we could tell in this fight that he was not trying he only started trying at the very end to try to get away from the sun. So I’m assuming that next time he is going to fight man whoever is gonna fight him is gonna have a very hard time
Wesley Right Now: I want upper moon 3s head on a plater Wesley After Akazas backstory in Infinity Castle Arc: This is so sad, he did not deserve this. I know he has killed so many but he didnt even want this.
I read his backstory and I loved him dying and I’m a rengoku fan so I with Wesley on that I don’t care about him to forgive him like I don’t do that with itachi
This episode reaction hit hard. Today, my grandma died, she had been caught up by her post-covid symptoms. She was such a lovely lady, she will forever be at peace in my heart.
Akaza wasn't going all out. This 'close' win, was only because Akaza was too focused on recruiting him. If Akaza didn't care, they'd all be dead the second he arrived. It was not an 'unfair fight' because Akaza attacked after Rengoku was worn out. It was an unfair fight because Akaza came on the scene with only one Hashira and a bunch of kids present. Full strength or worn out, it didn't matter, they were done the second Akaza showed up. Can't wait for you to see more of him.
I just recently found your channel. You two seem to be such wonderful people. I like that Wes will unabashedly cry. Makes me feel better about myself. 😂
How tf is akaza a coward he went there and fought fair holding back to see rengokus strength and never even thought of using the 200 humans there as hostages
Just to be clear: 1- inosuke is a guy. 2- 11'th form of water breathing is a unique technique that giyu created and only he can use it out of all water users. 3- solo killing a 12 kizuki can make someone hashira.(they are 6 lowermoons and 6 uppermoons.) 4- Renguko is a mid hashira but i don't think even a top hashira can do what he did after that flashback, Just like he said: "Strength" isn't a word used to describe just the body.
Little fact allot of people don't know, each time Rengoku yells Delicious after every bit isn't a oddball move, warriors did it after each meal to appreciate what possibly may be their last meal, and Rengoku does it after each bite, meaning he's prepared to fight and possibly lay down his life in a moments notice, truly Rengoku was a amazing character
everyone is talking about rengoku, and i understand, but tanjiro's crying in the dream always makes me tear up. poor kid lost almost his entire family at 13.
The fight was indeed decided after Akaza penetrated Rengokus stomach. And that he ran away afterwards is ok in this instance, because the sun would kill even Muzan.
Akaza's life was on the line too, but for a whole different reason. If he hadn't executed Muzan's orders to kill the Hashira, he would have propably get killed by Muzan himself. Upper moons are insanely strong, but they are still slaves to Muzan, and completely powerless against him of course... He can kill all of them with a blink of an eye.
1:11:36 i needed to hear this. My uncle's funeral was yesterday and it was very sad and traumatic for me and my family. I still feel emotionally drained rn, i think the whole family is.
That delicious is actually foreshadowing the death of the Rengoku as samurai ate their meal with pleasure. That meal can be their last meal. So they take every meal with pleasure.
I really like this movie. Rengoku like side character but his stole whole show. Details very awesome, Rengoku like samurai. The plot show how he fullfill his duty to protect people and young successor. the way he died with a hole in his stomach and on his knees could be metaphorized as a samurai
16:55 Rengoku didn't have a bad dream. That is exactly what happened in real life. Rengoku is the kind of man who gave it his all 24/7 and believe every single moment of his life is the best. That is why he enjoy his meal to the fullest and shout delicious with every single bites. So there is nothing he wish was different in his life and his dream is already a perfect dream.
I know its a year late but I’m still telling you just in case, no one realises how wholesome inosukes dream is, he’s exploring a cave with his best friends, it’s proving that despite the fact he doesn’t show it, he loves his friends
akaza was not even using his full powers, he was just playing around. also it wouldnt mater if rengoku cut off akaza's head, it would regrow. akaza was just running from the sun
Rengoku had so much potential to be one of the most strongest swordsman, mind you that he trained by himself without the help of his father who is a hashira, lost his mother, and he only have the few pages of the flame breathing to study with, and yet with all this handicap he perfected the 9th form and he's still one of the top hashiras, how much more if he actually got the proper training that most of the demon slayer had. He had every right to grief and turn out to be a depressed person but Rengoku chose to be the most optimistic, charismatic, and happiest person there is and he only wishes the best things to others.
Yeah he would be just below; 1. Gyomei 2. Sanemi 3. Muichiro (when he gets older since his potential >>> rengoku's) and maybe obanai or tied for 4th. Kinda shows how crazy OP he would of been.
