Couple's First-Time Reaction to Jinjer "Pisces" Live Session 

Some info: The group is Jinjer, Tatiana is the singer and they're from Ukraine. Most of their songs are a mix of beautiful cleans and harsh vocals. Yes, that's 100% her voice - and she's a master of her craft. Her cleans can range from jazzy, to pop, to operatic, and even to reggae. Her harsh vocals range from deep gutteral growls to triumphant roars to banshee howls. Tatiana is a world class growler, yes this is her real voice. Jinjer is one of the best bands in metal today. Tati has many different styles of the growl. Jinjer songs are very much like a thrill ride, never boring and always exciting.

It may not be your style, but you have to appreciate talent when you see it. Pisces represents duality, and so does her voice. This song- from the time signatures to the layers to the cohesion and compliments of each instrument to each other- is a masterpiece. AND done live in one take (with some added post-production layering after effects)

Pisces, as in the astrological sign. The symbol is 2 fish swimming in opposite directions, so the key word here is ,duality. Tatiana and Eugene (bass) are both Pisces, she wrote the lyrics, with a little help from Eugene to finish up. They are from Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, where the fighting started in 2014. They left for the capital then, but still have family back home that they can't go see. When the current fighting started , the guys were stuck in Kiev, but were eventually allowed to leave , to tour and be ambassadors for Ukraine. This live session was done to showcase Vlad on drums, who had joined not long before this, but it went viral because of her vocals. Roman (guitar), Eugene and Vlad are all awesome musicians.

Welcome to Jinjer. I give you huge props going outside of your comfort zone to explore the range of music out there, well done. That is all Tatiana, she is a vocal goddess. The band are all top tier musicians. Growling is not for everyone and takes time to get use to. Please keep exploring this band, they are amazing. As others have said, this is her voice, she says she has two voices and I would agree with that, she has worked very hard to be able to do this.

Jinjer is a world class band, very tight and very musical. The vocaliste is one of the best there is in the business. Of course there is the shock factor, the beautiful voice from a beautiful woman that lured so many people into this 'trap', but she also brought lots of people to an understanding and appreciation of this special art of growling.Take the lyrics for example, they are basically about the contradictions in life.These words are important in bringing the song to a higher level, it is more than the shock value. Forget about the discomfort this growling initially gives. But If it just doesn't work for you then it is what it is: a more than 70 million hitter that brings a lot of fun watching the reactions. Either way, succes.

Yes! it IS possible to love and not love a song. Fun fact: this is an older song that has been rewritten, rearranged and in this specific case, re-recorded using their new (at the time) drummer. Tatiana and Eugene wrote the song together and it originally had a totally different ending. The band themselves say that they have never really been completely happy with this song and that they wish they would have gotten more recognition initially from their song, "I Speak Astronomy" as the band feels that its their best song from that era of the band and more representative of what the band would later become

Thanks for taking this chance on what to you is an unknown band. While I'd never say I'm a huge fan of growls in general, I've been listening to various bands that utilize them since the mid 1990s when i found bands like Death, Carcass, and Morbid Angel. I first heard a woman growling when I bought the "Wages of Sin" album by Arch Enemy, and the first time I heard a woman switch from growls to clean vocals is when I first heard a now-defunct group called The Agonist. Now with Jinjer, I love this band. Roman, Eugene, and Vlad don't play like anyone else I've heard or watched. Eugene especially not only inspires me to play bass, but he inspires me to play it differently than I have in the past. They're definitely not for everyone, but on trend I've noticed on RU-vid is that a lot of women singers and reactors see Tatiana as kind of an empowering figure. To them, she's one of a small number of women who is this badass lady tackling a male-dominated vocal style, fronting a band of men while sacrificing none of her personality, personal style, or femininity. Those who react negatively to Tatiana at first tend warm up to her pretty fast. That's helped along by her intelligent, poetic, and heartfelt lyrics and the great music coming from the instrumentalists.

What you guys need is a gateway song to get into songs like this. When I had my first beer, I thought it tasted terrible. But I had that one beer that I did think that it was that bad. Know my taste buds are more refined and now I enjoy Guinness. Guinness is not for everybody. But once you get that taste for it, your excited to try other things.

Let me tell you as someone who watches Jinjer Pisces reaction videos for 4 years now, having counted them once and by today there are more than 1000 !!!! 🤘 I've seen or at least started watching 80 to 90 percent of those and I can tell you, you jumped right up into my Top 50 😆 I don't mind if reactors laugh when Tatiana starts growling, I like the discussions of "cannot believe" but most of all the faces. the growls, screams, and other gutteral vocal are just an artistic choice, or (and especially in this songs case) to add inflection... there's nothing really to get beyond that. in this case the different tones used represent the pisces fish swimming in different directions, one beautiful and graceful, the other harsh and aggressive. i'm not a huge jinjer fan but i absolutely love this song and watching people shocked reactions to it.

Watching cold reactions to this song never gets old.... That said, as much as I love, Love. LOVE everything about the clean sections, I didn't much like the growling section for the first several times I heard them. They grew on me...

Another one you could look at with no growl is "Bad Water". Back to this song... Take a minute to read the lyrics, then listen again with the lyrics. Don't talk, listen. The ear to mouth ratio is 2:1 for a reason. Try to understand the deep meaning in the lyrics, being echoed by the music and the vocal stylization. They are not for everyone, but many dismiss what they struggle to understand too soon and miss the deeper meaning of things. Look into the bands heritage, their nation's history (and present), and the things these people have endured. Once you get to know them, it is really hard not to love them. It doesn't seem possible, but the growls get easier to understand after a little experience with them. Everyone in the band are quite brilliant, and genuinely good people.

My simple take regarding her "Satanic" voice: If you were a selfless fish (Pisces) who wanted to see the world but was a bit skittish, and then got into the nets and was hooked by handsome butchers who proceed to rip away your scales and entrails (emeralds)... you'd growl too! So you see, sometimes the lyrics call for extreme vocals in a song. Tatiana (who's not singing as someone possessed, so you can toss the garlic back into the spaghetti sauce) wrote an incredible story and sang about it the way it deserved to be sung... as with most of her songs. Some vocalist just keep singing in their nice and charming voice even when the lyrics call out desperation. Not so with Tati. Her extreme expression - a rare ability - adds so much more to a song... especially if you follow the music with the lyrics and how the beautiful cacophony tells the story. Thx, Guys!

There are more then a few very talented woman in Metal. Floor Jansen of Nightwish(Ghost love Score live at Wacken2013) and Simone Simmons of Epica (Rivers live at The AFAS Live) are both Sopranos. Floor can also growl very well but sticks to more clean in Nightwish. Both are considered Symphonic Metal which adds Orchestral and choir sounds in metal to make it very atmospheric. Its gorgeous.

You can also do it. Takes just 3 or 4 years of training your voice. After max. 5 years you're out of Business btw. Happened to the Lead singer of Deep Purple with higher notes also. Sometimes it's better to stay on the mid way..

Yes, that is Tati's real voice. Ironically, there is some minor effects on her singing voice, a little doubling and echo, here and there. But, the growl is all her. Tati, as absolute control over her false vocal cords (or folds). Everybody has them, like the sound you make with a forced burb. This ability allows her to have the angelic singing voice and the demonic growl without hurting he voice. If you look, you can see her throat is not straining, no veins popping, everything is relaxed, no matter which voice she is using.

Tati is pretty masterclass on false folds technique. It is her, and while this is a live session, effects and tuning were used. I would suggest checking out another female who can false fold scream with the best of them (btw this is so jarring because men typically achieve this sound but it isn't far off from their normal pitch, just deeper) but safer practices have shown to hit these growls it's MUCH MUCH safer for the singer to stop the true vocal chords which is what creates tone and pitch. Spiritbox's Courtney Leplante (One Take) circle with me.. it's just her in the studio over the track hitting it in one shot.. the last 1:40 of it is a showcasing that men in the metal world wishes they could master, clean / growl / clean in the same breath. .. I do suggest this after the shock has worn off, of course.

Oh, YeaH! Tati is one from the best singers using growl technique. Problem is you have to like that kind of the music. I'm metalhead and I love it🤘😀🤘 If you want some more accessible kind of metal music I suggest try Nightwish with Ghost Love Score (Wacken 2013 version). I'm sure you will like it and it will be a relaxing breake from rougher metal.
