And who even knows that number off the top of their head? If you're in a situation where you need to be calling the cops 911 is the first number that's going to pop into your head.
I agree. Although the couple said they were unaware of any reward until after they had already called 911, if Crime Stoppers was offering a reward and the tip that caught the perpetrator came from that couple, they should pay them.
This is how you get more people deciding to mind their business instead of reporting a crime. Although I would save a life for free with or without the promise of reward, this definitely isn’t a good look.
If Crime Stoppers wants to keep their reputation as a legitimate and ethical organization, they need to make this right. I personally had no idea there was a difference between calling 911 or the tip line. Most people would have made this "mistake". Give them the reward that they earned.
No, they don't need to do anything, and people do this often, so it's clear their "reputation" won't be affected in the slightest. It's not their fault that people don't understand the prerequisites, especially when it's posted all over their website, and this happens more often than you know.
This couple will get rewarded now that their story has gone public. Crime Stoppers is splitting hairs with this policy and it's shameful. Hopefully this story will be the catalyst for a change in policy. Until then, I'm betting some money finds its way to this wonderful couple via the community or someone with deep pockets who wants to do a good deed. God bless 'em.

I caught that too. They kept an eye on him until an arrest could be made. This pervert was ray-ping a kid and because the good guys called the emergency number instead of leaving a message at the tip line - no reward. Why bother having a "reward" if you're acting like it's a game show prize.
That's very true, but what does it say that a community values a technicality more than the action itself... What they did lead to the arrest and very plausibly saved a life, if they didn't want to give a reward they shouldn't have offered one, by their means ... He would've been 3 states away by the time they got around to responding to the "tip" vs calling 9-1-1 in an actual emergency... They are literally encouraging people NOT to call 9-1-1 in this situation which can cause the victim to lose their life when time is so crucial.

Ooh a man named Cliff Freeman paid the couple the $5,000 because he saw the story and was upset they didn't get paid. Thank you for being awesome Cliff and righting this wrong perpetrated by crime floppers!
This is insane. Who has the crime stoppers number memorized? These people helped keep kids safe and are the reason that family is getting justice. Give them they’re reward. SMMFH.
Crime Stoppers is DISGUSTING. The purpose is to arrest the criminal. Why would it matter if they call the Army or the Navy or the Security Guard or the Waiter as long as it led to the arrest.
Exactly! Had they called the tip line, that monster would have gotten away and committed more crimes against children. This is plain ridiculous. Doesn't surprise me it's Texas.
They did their due diligence and went above & beyond and followed the suspect to make sure they had an eye on the suspect so police can get him despite getting disconnected. GTFOH! They need to be rewarded ASAP, no ands, ifs or buts.

not only is that a stupid policy of theirs, but calling the tip line instead of 911 is counterintuitive. you’re having to go through another person who’s just going to call 911 anyway. Justice for this family!!!
That´s because Crime Stoppers wanted to reap the glory of catching him. Which means they aren´t about taking dangerous people off the streets, they are about the media coverage, the publicity, and the public image. Denying the reward is as sleazy as they come. I would bet that they will eventually pay up, due to the backlash that they are getting. But the mask is off. The people in charge of Crime Stoppers are in it for their own personal gain, and have the moral standing of a potato.
By calling 911, the police were able to make the arrest right away. Had this couple called Crime Stoppers, CS would have had to eventually call 911, and by then, the suspect would have been gone. This couple deserves the reward with a big thank you. Crime Stoppers needs to include their ridiculous rule with each ad.
Crime stoppers don’t answer the phone and they don’t even call you back. I’ve tried and not for reward money but to stay anonymous. They don’t even take your tip in the first place!
RIGHT! That’s what I was thinking. I see the culprit right NOW, and you want me to waste time trying to go through unclear channels while a child’s life is in danger? Crime stoppers need to pay.
What a bunch of SCUMBAGS. They need to give these wonderful people that reward. They did a huge service to the community and they deserve to be rewarded.
One of the few times I side with 911...CrimeStoppers were offering the reward & 911 wasn't so they would deserve the reward if they called who were offering it.
They put their lives at stake for going public like the dummy’s they are. If it wasn’t for the news and their greed nobody would’ve gave a damn about this. Money makes people stupid.
Glad to know there is a difference. When in an emergency or fear, i would have call 911 instead of finding the number for Crime Stoppers.... Glad a Hero stepped in to bless them for their courage.🏆
This is disgusting. They helped to solve a crime, saved other families from grief, and saved tax players money, and they got nothing. Absolutely disgusting. They need a Go Fund Me page, since C. S. will not honor their contract with everyday citizens.
@49ersfan834 Some people do abuse go fund me. And sometimes just the right thing to do. In this case these folks should be rewarded for their tip. But if that doesn't happen a go fund me makes sense. It's up to the public if they don'ate or not. No one forces them.

The news outlet is no better. They blocked my friends comment just for saying CS just wanted to be first to report the story and don’t really care about the communities they claim to help.
Not only did they bring a violent child predator to justice, they put their own family lives on the line. People don't understand sometimes these predators run in packs and just because he's off the streets doesn't mean he may not have friends or family members wanting revenge for snitching this guy out. @@marvawilson-harrison1440That's an accurate account from a sane perspective but when you look from a predators perspective, rules of the streets, rules in a prison or a jail, if you report anything you see that brings unfavorable judgement or punishment on another person it's called " snitching " ratting a person out. But when it comes to protecting innocent children who cares about these terms? Well I understand what you said but why go on the news and put your entire family at risk? All for 5k? As the man of the family he should have thought better about that an let this one go. @@mariovillamar-k5l ehh I get that is the way the law is written but it creates a slippery slope especially in this instance where they had a up close encounter that required an urgent response versus someone seeing a person 30 minutes ago and calling to report their last location and that leading to an arrest then I can see the logic in calling crime stoppers first. In my opinion it should have been common sense to have a clause in cases like this.

This reminds me of when we found a dog who ran away from its house and my sister took it back to the house it belonged to, thanks to the collar tag it had. She was given $20 for gas. Little did we know that the dog's owners had been offering a big reward online (probably over $1k), which they conveniently kept silent about. Moral of the story is that people make excuses for keeping money they would otherwise have happily given away as a reward. Doesn't seem that fair.
Well, we are supposed to care to do good regardless of a reward. Helping someone else in itself is the reward. I mean, I would feel bad to take that much money from someone just because I happened to find their dog. People offer it in hope that it will inspire more people to specifically keep an eye out for their dog, but moreso that maybe someone who took their dog will be willing to give it back for the money, because they are heartbroken and desperate. In the end, would you withhold their dog from them if they didnt actually have $1000 to give? It is not as if it is a business or trade.
