Welcome to Course Design 101! A tutorial series aimed at beginner designers who want to build the course of their dreams! In this opening episode, we learn how to create an empty plot to build our golf course on!

I think a lot of people will be underwhelmed with the game until they realize people recreate every single course, and many times they are better than the stock ones.

Thank you for teaching me how to do a course this way. I never realized you could turn off the auto-generated stuff! My old man and a buddy of mine played my first ever course last night and we had an absolute blast! So fun watching them fall into my traps! Love your attitude and teaching style, I usually can't STAND youtube tutorials but you're an exception to the rule for sure! Oh and your advice for course design in general is spot on as well, thanks for the tips! I haven't even finished episode 7 but I had to stop and thank you for these, they're great! Tonys Terrible Tees(test) is my course, took me probably 6 hours on and off, needs a lot of filler and touching up, but it's a blast to play if I do say so myself!

I wish they had an autosave function, as more often than not, I tend to forget to save and its happened that I've lost stuff because the game crashes for what ever reason. I totally agree that Delta is one of the best Themes in the game, after that I would say Alpine and then Harvest for me. The fact that all objects for planting are now available is a great bonus and also the planting spline. I can't wait to get started !

@@Crazycanuck1985 Its not too late to implement it at a later date, maybe if the community asked for it enough it may happen. Another thing they should have introduced is caddies in Society games, now that would be really immersive.

I legitimately buy the game everytime for the course designer. Going to buy it tomorrow just to make courses. I have designed dozens of courses on tgc 2019, and spend hours and hours on each one

It's taking me quite awhile to get the hang of this. I thought maybe turning the stick inversion off would give me one less thing to get frustrated with but cant seem to get that to work. Either way, thank you for your help. Your videos have been very informative and your courses are very nice. I appreciate you sir!

Thanks for the tutorials, they are very helpful. One request, for elevation work, could you do a simple example of a back-to-front sloping green? Creating tiers seems fairly easy, but how would you create a gradual slope from back to front, for example? I think most greens in real life have a more gradual slope instead of multiple humps, bumps, or tiers.

I may have to watch this step by little step as when I tried this just now for first time nothing seemed to happen and when I play tested the hole it started me two feet from the flag. I'll try again when I get the chance probably tomorrow now.

Thank you for this! I had 19 and I like course designing (Sid Meier's Sim Golf anyone?). I was overwhelmed with the designer, wish I had found your series then. But, I have it now. I just got the game today and as soon as I'm done a few rounds I'm gonna dive into this!

@@scottdepace8140 if seen some ways to do it using a program called ghost it and tracing a certain way . Think there's a tutorial out there somewhere with people that did it on TGC2. Most real life designers use LIDAR data that gets imported into the game through a 3rd party tool. Not sure yet if this will available on the new game. Also, you can only design using lidar data if you are on PC. There are tutorials out there as well on how to do it. I don't use it because I prefer to make my own courses and the process is very slow and cumbersome

@@nilslarssonundeby3897 probably my most asked question. I get the appeal of trying to build your home course or a real course, but unless you've mastered the tools (which takes a while), you will most likeky be underwhelmed with the result of you take it on too early. I've never built a real course before and have no intention to. I don't really have any tips, just have lots of reference pictures, and if you have a PC you can import LIDAR data (you'll have to hunt for those tutorials)

Jerry, when I lay down hole 1 I seem to get a rough texture starting from behind the tee all the way to behind the green, even though I have laid down my own fairway using the spline method. How do I remove that system generated texture when creating hole 1?

I have been trying to design a golf course, but cannot seem to get out of the editor, to be able to publish it. Can you advise how to do that. I am using a windows PC. Creating it is the easy part, but not being able to publish it confusing.

How do you get it to just place points and not actually the surfaces? Everytime I create a hole it automatically creates the tee box fairway and green.

Hey rob, figured it out. At the beginning of the video he mentions to make sure in layout to have fairway, green, and bunkers down to zero before starting. I figured out unless you do that it will auto generate when you create a hole.

I may be asking this question way too early, but in TGC2019 you had one planting/object meter. You knew from that game designer's orange bar, what your maximum amount was for planting along with a warning when you hit that level. The new game has three meters, my question is, if you max out the memory or file size meters before the objects meter will that stop any additional object planting to your course design or do the three meters work in tandem? Thanks in advance and look forward to your upcoming tutorials.

From my testing, unless you are adding 70-80 out of theme assets, you aren't ever going to run into that problem from what I'm seeing. We will talk more about those bars later on when we discuss planting!

Are you a teacher by trade? You did an outstanding job of starting from the very down left of square one and making things easy to follow. I got the game a few weeks ago and have been messing with the course designer but can't seem to get water levels correct. That's why I'm here: To check out your series and get some advice. I am aware you can change the camera orientation, but can you change the compass orientation within the design program? In addition , when creating a surface using the brush, can you explain how to increase/reduce the brush size and turn the brush? I use a keyboard & mouse.

Great Course in using App. I am well on the way to creating my first Course (Real World Home Club). Thanks!!! One comment though. As a newb I did not understand 'MEMORY' usage. So banged in trees from 'whatever'.. Got to hole 2 an was 85%!!.. Could not find/Recall this in any tutorials... Needs warning at the start and how to TAB trees to just use Theme. On Hole 17 Now and at 29%. Will start chucking in good stuff when done to eat memory. Thanks for all your hard work on this....Love it!!!

I'm having a problem with creating a sloping fairway, something where I kind of want a hill on the left, and I want it to gradually slope to the right, towards a water hazard. Can you do a quick how to on something like this?

Curious if you ever have gotten issues with elevation glitching. When I go to playtest some holes I can literally see the bottom of the hole. And depending on my camera angle, if can alter the green read

How come when I put the water level at 0 it still starts me out with water everywhere? I’m unable to start with an actual blank canvas. SO frustrating

I'm following your instructions but when And set the water to 0 and then apply it it still comes up with water why is that I am doing this on playstation 4, Also I put the terrain with no hills yet I still have hills. Is this a flaw? Or am i doing something wrong?

How big is the plot at the beginning of the process (before you even place one element)? Can you accidentally start somewhere where you will run out of room, or is it so spacious that it won't matter?

I know other platforms (PS4 especially) crashed quite often in TGC 2019. On PC, I haven't noticed any issues. I save every 10-15 minutes though just in case!

Can someone please help. I’ve created a course and I want to publish it soon. When I go to the options menu the only option I have is save and publish is greyed out so that I can’t publish. Anyone know why this is?

Hi Crazycanuck, I am completely new to course design and really inspired by you RU-vid channel. Can you advise me if it is possible to design courses in either golf club 2019 or 2K21 that can be used for both games? Or are they only compatible with the game they were designed on? You can design games in 19 that can be imported into 21, but not the other way around. Thanks for the support!

Would it not be simpler to learn and use only TGC2019 course creator to be compatible with both games? Sorry if you already have a post/vid somewhere comparing the two.

Hi, I just picked up this game, tried to start new design, was able to put in "new course" name, but thats it,when I try to pick a theme, or terrain I see it looking like its going to load, but nothing happens after that, the choices basically will not load? any ideas ?

Great video. Looking for a bit of help from anyone really. I have been trying to desgin a course but the sticks, Y, X and trigger buttons dont do anything at all. I play on xbox one s. Has anyone experienced the same issue? I have deleted cache and reinstalled the game but still the same happens. Any help will be much appreciated

Is it possible to add 2 way points on a course? Can’t figure out how to do it in game. Trying to make a local course with a par 5 that has a dog left and then one back to the right.

Nah you can only do one, but doesn't stop you from doing a double dog leg. All the waypoint really does is tell the game the starting club.

I really just want a flat plain base to make my course off of. I’m trying to replicate my home course but it’s impossible because it puts water and hills even at the 0 setting.

Just flatten it, but maybe raise the plot about 10 feet? I wouldn't recommend starting by trying to replicate your home course. Get a feel for the tools first.

When I set my hole and create my waypoints, after I set the second one it auto populate rough from the hole to the tee box. It also cuts out trees or other things I wanted to keep. How do I get it from doing that? I’m on ps4 if that makes a difference

What tutorial should I watch to figure out how to make slopes for fairways? My home course was VERY hilly and I’m new to the course designer. All I get are dang plateaus!

Crazycanuck1985 thanks! I checked it out. But it’s still a bit hard to understand (for me). The course I am trying to make has slopes like crazy. For example, first hole starts at about 65’ up and gradually goes down to the hole with water on the bottom. It seems impossible 😂

@@xTieds I strongly recommend for your first course you try for something much flatter. Once you get better with the tools, go with a more sloped course!

Can't for the life of me figure out how to add bodies of water. I can brush and spline bunkers, surfaces, etc. but the only option for water is a square?

Yes it is only a square, you have to mold the ground around it to make a lake. It's a bit weird at first, but you get used to it. Tutorial on that coming soon.

When I create a hole and plot out the tee and green it automatically generates a fairway for me. Anyone know why? I can’t get rid of it and it’s quite frustrating

I learned what it is. I was having problem with it generating rough for me. In the course settings when you first start (you can change any time) you have to turn fairway and rough to 0 on the sliders.

I did that. I start with a flat plane like he did. No fairways rough or nothing but when I make a hole it automatically makes a fairway from where I put the tee to where I put the green.
