This video explains how to work out Course to Steer and is part of the City Sailing tutorial videos.
To steer a navigation course, you will need to follow these steps:
Determine your starting point and your desired destination.
Determine the distance and direction between your starting point and your destination. You can do this by using a nautical chart or GPS.
Determine the speed and direction of the current and the wind, as these factors will affect your navigation course.
Choose a heading that will take into account the factors above, and plot your course on the nautical chart. You may need to adjust your course periodically to account for changes in the wind or current.
Monitor your progress using your GPS, chartplotter, or visual landmarks, and make any necessary adjustments to your course.
Always keep a lookout for other vessels and navigational hazards.
Remember, it's important to be familiar with navigation rules and regulations in your area, as well as any local hazards or restrictions that may affect your navigation course. It's also important to have the necessary safety equipment on board, including life jackets, communication devices, and navigation lights.

I'm a bit lost at 6:15... At this point we don't know the speed of the tide or the direction, so how do we know our speed over ground/how long it will take? I kept watching and I think I get it... I'm making flashcards to study - does this mini description makes sense: "Measure A - B, calc speed & draw line past B. Use tide diamond & if Spring/Neap to calculate C position. Arc from C to B line to find D, use C to D for Course to Steer" Is that right? Thanks!

You need an approximate time of the passage to the nearest hour or half-hour to be able to predict the CTS, it does not matter if it is too big or small as it is an approximation. Draw a line from your start to your finish A to B, and add the tide from A for the time (the one you guessed to the nearest hour or half-hour) you are on the passage. Then add the tide for this time (calculate this from the diamond or tidal streams), from the end of the tide measure the distance you are going to through the water and arc it on the A B line, this is your course to steer. I hope this helps
