I remember first seeing Born Losers in Charlotte, NC, in 1974, when I was a 16 year old impressionable kid....I had never heard of Billy Jack until I saw that movie, and I was hooked...I also remember seeing Billy Jack for the first time that same year, and how powerful it was on the big screen then, the theater was packed, and it was a very emotional moment, being in there with all of those young people, some were even sobbing watching it....I think there is a Billy Jack, maybe, in all of us that want to do what's right. to RESPECT, to protect, and stand up when necessary, even if the result doesn't go your way sometimes...I think he made the point, it's the principle of the damned thing that matters most, even when you sometimes lose....THAT is something to be RESPECTED in anyone....
When Tom Laughlin died at 82 in 2013 I thought WOW man i'm getting old he was a childhood hero. To this day that movie holds up what was so cool about Billy Jack that is lacking in movies today was his humility he didn't go around acting like he was all that and a bag of chips until someone messed with him. The Hollywood tough guys of the modern era go around like their poop don't stink that doesn't make for a good hero
+Robert Reed that is because so many of the actors that are gone now actually were "real people." By that, I mean they actually had really worked in real jobs, fought in wars, etc. the ones now are pampered and grew up soft compared to those before. This is a generalization, of course.
Loved Billy Jack. I remember I was 10 my cousin and my sister took me to see the film. It left an impression on me. My cousin and sister went to the movies to see Jesus Christ Superstar which was a double feature with Billy Jack. I liked Jesus Christ Superstar but I loved Billy Jack. We used to go see a lot of double features back then. I miss those days.
Grew up in Omaha in the 60s and 70s. That movie was the only thing my friends and I talked about for weeks. The impact on the society of the day was very important.
I think most people who try to lead decent lives all have a little "Billy Jack" in them. I was very sad to hear the news when he passed away. Time goes by so fast, you have to try to enjoy each and every day because you never know when it will be your last.
My brother died 3 weeks ago. We are native american.he loved this song and the movie. I asked that "End of the trail" be on the cards. So please think of him and raise that fist.
We are all here as nothing more than a mist or a flower in that's blooming for one minute and then gone the next! This is an unprecedented time for this nation! People please wake up to the corruption in ALL levels of government!!! Antifa (aka antifungals and black lung movement. They have nothing to say about anything!! They're the TOTAL OPPOSITE of what is GOOD, and RIGHT, and TRULY FAIR. THEY'RE THE "LITTLE ONE TIN SOLDIER", THAT SEEMS TO THINK THAT THEY HAVE THE CONTROL? WELL THEN! JUDGMENT DAY IS COMING FOR THEM! I HOPE THEY'RE REALLY READY FOR WHAT HELL 🔥 HAS IN STORE FOR THEM?? IT'S NOT WHAT THEY THINK IT IS!! NO MORE PARTY LIFE! JUST THEM BEING SPIT OUT INTO OUTER DARKNESS AND INTO THE MOUTH OF DARKNESS OF THE BLACKEST OF THE BLACK HOLES! THE OLD SAYING GOES: PRIDE GOES BEFORE THE FALL . GOD ALMIGHTY OPPOSES THE SPIRIT OF PRIDE BUT HE GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLED SOUL!! SO I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU PEOPLE START TAKING YOUR OWN MORAL INVENTORY REAL QUICK!! THE DAY OF THE RECKONING HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN. IF SOME OF YOU PEOPLE WERE HALF AS SMART AS YOU THINK YOU ARE? YOU'D PULL YOUR DAMN HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASSES AND STOPPED BEING SUCH A LITTLE JUVENILE DELINQUENT AND GET A REAL LIFE BEFORE YOU END UP IN YOUR OWN SELF MADE TORTURE CHAMBER IN THE FLAMES OF HELL 🔥!! Therefore, you will fully know them by their fruits. Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name and driven out demons in Your name and done many mighty works in Your name? And then I will say to them openly (publicly), I never knew you; depart from Me, you who act wickedly [disregarding My commands]. Wilmalopez ❤️you have my heart and understanding ! Im Creek and I understand completely ! Billy Jack took up arms and stood his ground, just as an example to us ! Freedom isn’t FREE without those who are willing to fight for it !
Billy Jack was my first crush at 7 years old! lol And he has kept a place in my heart still now. I'm 55 now. Love love this song, always have. Good memories.
IAM 60 YRS OLD BUT THIS SONG STRIKES A CORD AS TO WHAT A MAN SHOULD BE ALSO LIKED HOW HE STOOD UP FOR THE REAL FORGETTEN PEOPLE ( NATIVE AMERICAN PEOPLE)
Oh yeah.....I movie...even when I was a kid of only 9 I knew what the song was all about.........God created all men equal and I cried as a child known the past. I have never tried to pass judgement on any man since.......
THIS Movie was SO INSPIRING! We saw it at least FOUR or FIVE Times in the Theaters with large groups, as Everyone was Talking About IT . In Fact, it is the MOST Successful INDEPENDENT FILM of All Time, in Revenue, apparently! #TrueClassic
That’s Jinx Dawson. Her voice is amazing, isn’t it? Did you know that Coven is still going? They’d be performing now if it weren’t for Covid. And Jinx is still fronting the band, even though she’s in her 70s now.
One of the truly iconic movies of my youth that never gets mentioned. It may not be in the class of the Godfather as far as film making goes but a great movie with a great message none the less.
That beautiful man Billy Jack's legacy lives on, but now I think this is so good I gotta watch the movie start to finish. You see I'm 40 years old and this is from the era I wish I had lived, breathed, and made music in. I'm going to cover this song. The world needs it now. It really is precious and beautiful. One thing, though, all versions of this song are great. Me I really have trouble choosing, but I might say Coven because Jinx's voice is pure gold.
I saw this decades ago. Great movie! So popular that they made 2 more. As I watched this video & saw him led away in handcuffs, I remembered that I was taken from St.Paul to Moorhead, MN in handcuffs for speaking out in a letter against racism at Concordia College in Mhd. I grew up in Moorhead & attended that fake Christian school for 4 yrs. May GOD judge my cause, and remember those that chose persecution over dialogue.
Talked to great grandmother in the sixties. She was in her ninties. She was native American. asked her what was mine. She said everywhere you look. It was stolen from you.
A really powerful one from 1971 called Billy Jack. I remember seeing it as a kid and would like to see it again sometime. It's been many years but I still remember some of these scenes.
I have seen 3 of the 4 billy Jack movies. but not the last one where Billy goes to Washington I hope to get the chance to someday. I love the plots and the message that each one conveys. I even have the Album from Trial of Billy Jack.
At 18 I had a friend..his name was Billy..went to school in Montreal..he died in a accident..was my best friend..originally he was from Oklahoma..he was a true native American..when I c this movie I think of him....may God bless him..
I used to listen to this song every day on my way to school. I'd fast forward past every song on the tape we had to hear this. While I do enjoy the original version, this is the one I grew up with and that has grown in my heart. What makes this version for me is the way she sings the "'Peace on Earth', was all it said," line.
this song has a lasting significance and is just as relevant today as it was then......i think i watched Billy Jack about ten times back then..there was something real and disturbing about it,,but also hopeful.....thanks for posting...rjm germany
I saw this movie for the first time when I was only 15 and I'm in my 60s now. I can't forget how as the sheriff cuffed Billy Jack it was like Everyone in the theater stood up and clapped or gave the raised fist. Ok, thing is we all did it before the scene!!. Billy Jack was a brave enough man in his own right, but unselfishly made a sacrifice for those he loved .✌️
I can remember my folks take I and my brother Saturday night drive in movie it was BILLY Jack to me that was a good ,movie.we talk about it alway home that night.
coven was the original. That's Jinx Dawson singing here... She's in the movies.. Don't know what the problem is with other group trying to claim glory... they may have sound the song first, but billy Jack is Coven.. The two are magic
Hard to believe, I was in the marines, and saw " Billy Jack" in San Clemente California back in either 1971 or 1972. I walked that town a thousand times. hard to believe looking back. The movie made me think about being a marine and the message from the movie.
A beautiful but tragic song. A lot of violence is still perpetrated "in the name of heaven," and pacifism has come to be equated with weakness. And thus it will continue until one last soldier is all that remains.
The origin of the Billy Jack role was established in the first film the Born Losers. It was always about the struggle between the establishment and the Outsiders.
+MrSmokeydog Yeah actually Born Losers was the best movie I thought, Billy Jack was good but the last two he did sucked that's why you never hear anything about them. The Trial of Billy Jack and Billy Jack goes to Washington.
They don't make movies like this anymore. It left such an impression on my young mind, about not being prejudiced towards others, just because they may be different. Billy Jack is STILL my hero!
Every now and then you hear these great songs and are transported back to the theatre when with the crush of your life beside you and the swell of her breast and warmth of her breath and soft lips as discovery blooms and your senses swell you realise what a wonderful life you've had. The film was fabulous 2nd time.
Classic Stories Good vs Evil, We are all in this old melting pot, One Man against the Machine. Tom Laughlin lived his life defending and helping those without proper resources. The movie was an emotional rollercoaster. He made it on a shoe-string and it made him millions It reminds me of another good feel story written, and directed by one man Sylvester Stallone-Rocky.
+atakai wesley My thoughts exactly, First Blood was somewhat of a copy cat of sorts. A Vietnam veteran who fights for truth and good. And not welcomed or liked by local authorities and becomes a hero to the people. Oh and I forgot, he can kick some ass.
I'm sorry that Tom is gone... He embodied the phrase..."You have to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything..." We could use a little more of that attitude these days.... R.I.P. Tom...may The Good Lord Bless you...
I used your video for my presentation in my college philosophy class. My presentation was based on my final paper on "Philosophy and War" I got an A for the presentation and the paper. Thanks for uploading the video.
If you watch closely during the movie the kids come up with a sign for the new orddr and it is a raised right fist! My brother and I attended the movie in 1971 and when the last scene played we both stood and raised our fist. We were the only two Native kids in attendance
My mom took me to see the Billy Jack movies. She taught me pacifism. I was very young. By the way, pacifism isn't great when you're getting bullied in school. I should have kicked some bully ass back then.
Pacifism is good in a perfect world. This not being one of those worlds. I go with Non-violence. That is simply where if you do not attack us or those under our protection we won't destroy you. Violence is an unprovoked attack. The reaction to a such an attack is not Violence. It is self defense.
...also, in a very strange way, it sounds as if Coven were laying the final marble slab on the hippie dream's tomb...it's the walkout music. Coven were the tin soldiers who rode away, and I fully admire them for being who they were, against the grain of the Laurel Canyon mob, mr Z. included. Ha!...
Wow, how off base is that comment. It's a wonderful rendition of the song, and what's irrelevant about the video? It's scenes from Billy Jack, from which the song came.
Billy is just like Jesus he had followers and was hated by the authorities Like Jesus Billy got arrested but Billy didn't die for you like Jesus did, Billy LIVED for YOU!!
Hero figures of the past are remembered in the future. This was 1 of my favorite movies of that late 1960´s to early 1970´s era along with Easy Rider & Kung Fu to name a few. Each demonstrated the unfortunate reality of discrimination that still plagues us today & how it was dealt with back then. It's lamentable that we lose such hero's, but may they be resurrected to eternal vitality at the appointed time in the future. Amen.
Well people are posting like this was a real event. It was a screen play. Written by Tom & Delores. A very good one. But never the less a screen play. FICTIONAL! It didnt really happen in the real world. Still to this day the number one indepent film ever made. But Billy Jack goes to Washinton was never released in theater's. Because it showed how screwed up our goverment really is. If you have a chance to see it.Watch it. If someone has it on video.POST IT in its entirety. The GOV still fears it!
I LOVE THIS SONG EVER SINCE I SAW BILLY JACK. IT INSPIRED ME TO MAKE A VIDEO PLAYING MY HARMONICA. I PLAY BY EAR AND USED A LEE OSKAR FENDER IN G. HAVE A LISTEN AND TELL ME IF YOU LIKE IT.
I also enjoyed listening to this song as back then with the beautiful U.S.A. Southwest desert scenery video, even though I don't agree with some lyrics such as "Go ahead & hurt your neighbor, go ahead & cheat a friend. Do it in the name of heaven, you can justify it in the end". I prefer not to do such things so not to cause conflict's. Anyway, I thought that the actress who starred in this movie Dolores Taylor who I think was married to the late great Tom L. (Billy Jack) had sang this song.
:-) there always has to be one of you kids looking for attention! you don't like it, go listen to your own taste. relax and enjoy life! no need to be negative. your only eating yourself up from the inside out! turing yourself into a bitter old crud, no one will want to be around. theres beauty in everything, look past the temptation to take the negative side of life. It will make your life more enjoyable. have an awesome week.
hummm the king has treasure. which is perceived to be gold. king offers to share. not good enough. in the end what he had was peace that they took away unpeaceable like and everyone wound up with nothing.
Great song. Movie? What yu make of it. Violence? Not nice. Yet..sometimes necessary and inevitable. We are humans, therefore intelligent. Follow the dots.
The Billy Jack Movies were my favorites growing up. I liked the idealism and of course Billy Jack kicking butt! Now I still like them but have a different take on them. Still like fighting for justice, just don't like some of the other stuff going with it. Trying to put a finger on it.
I live on the Meixcan border.I speak Spanish, and it's hard to translate this into Spanish for the non-Englishspeakers without getting choked up and losing my composure. But the message resonates big time. I wonder if this song is translated into other languages.
This was my favorite movie back when I was going through my hippie liberal phase 30 years ago. Billy Jack still kicks ass, even though I've grown a brain since then.
While people think of the Indians out West they seem to forget the Seminoles tribe of South Florida and they are still getting scewed by the government to this day
Many tribes were those from now Canada. I know several by name. However, one must understand they all were not of like minds. Quite evident, even today! I’m very white, but I have lived in many arrangements with tribes.
