Hi Shelly! As always, your foundation review was very informative and I really like the super closeups so your viewers can see how the product sits on the skin. I think in "real life" most viewers have a favorite concealer that they use regardless of the foundation but with new formulations constantly coming out, it surprises me that foundation reviews don't include how the concealer blends or sits on top of the foundation. I think you'd be the first to include this important info for us beauty junkies & geeks; second, you'd be providing useful that no one else is providing

You really look beautiful without any foundation! I swear, you could just spot conceal the things you want to cover (I know your sun spots bother you) and go foundation free n you would look just as good as you do with foundation... PS Ziva stole the show at the end.. lol

Great review. It’s a shame it didn’t work too well for you. I’m combo oily/dry and I adore it. Great colour, light weight, decent coverage and natural finish. I recently tried the new Chanel les beige tinted moisturiser and I adore that too. This might be better for drier skin.

Shelly, you’ve got to get the Clarisonic with the interchangeable head that you use to blend foundation and contour makeup. I didn’t believe it could do it that well until I saw Tati use it and now I’m devoted to it. You have that use and of course it’s a great skin tool. Just change out that brush. Tati had a code for this new attachment and I jumped on it. As always, thanks for a great video!!

Hi Suz! I have a whole second Clarisonic on my vanity just for the foundation brush!! I don't use it much in videos because I get a lot of complaints that people don't think the video is helpful since they don't have a Clarisonic. But it's what I use 98% of the time when I put my own makeup on off-camera!

Hi Shelly, I think I told you this when you gave me this link , but I just wanted to make sure I did in case you see this instead of the one I left a few minutes ago. Yes I like their Natural Finish version of foundation a smidge better - and it is more of a dewy finish. But they sure have the color selection nailed! And it is consistent from one product to another which I always appreciate.

I've never tried any CoverFX products. The best matte foundation I've found was surprisingly Catriice's Nude Illusion which promised luminous matte, soft focus effect, & to be longlasting -- and it is! It's a smidge drying so I only wear it in the Spring & summer. And then unfortunately Catrice discontinued it about a year ago & they only made 4 shades anyway - womp womp... So I bought the last 3 bottles I could find year before last. I'm down to my last bottle for this summer- wah!

I feel your pain over the beauty blenders. I have 4 rescue kitties of my own, and two of them think they own the sponges! The foundation looks great on your skin, and the color is spot on. For me, I think it would be too drying. I'd be interested in trying their other formulation. The color range seems great. I need a foundation in light, with golden undertones. Geek Out of Water Shelly, I'm going to order The Natural Finish in both G20 and G30, to see which one works better. I also think I'm going to get the Smash box + Vlada Metallic Palette. My skincare must be making a difference because foundations I used to find too drying are starting to work - like Fenty :) I think this one looks really pretty on you and oddly, I dont see the issues (on camera) that you see in person but foundations are a tricky bag. Peach perfect - one I want to try now that they have Swan! *sings* gonna live in a box 🍺

Another good one Shell - I really do love your foundation videos. This one is a little more matte than I like for myself but it's great to see a brand that's got the undertone thing worked out well! (and especially that it's consistant across formulas in their line). Also I have to say I love your swatching comparisons, it's so helpful when checking whether a foundation formula's doing the undertone well, and that's sometimes hard to determine off a single application or swatch in a video or photo - you really need to see it in comparison to others see how yellow, pink or otherwise it is, so thanks heaps for always doing that!. Have a great weekend.

Ooh - i just got the BH foundation this week and it's working brilliantly, loving the lasting power, finish and the underone - I ended up with 207 rosy beige (the 2nd palest cool shade- ivory 201 I thought would be too pale) and thought it might be too dark, but it's still very warm here so I have some colour and it's just about perfect at the moment.

Merlin was a kitten from a friend's mom's farm cat that we think clearly must've hooked up with a ragdoll! :-D He has all of the characteristics - super vocal, super friendly, gets all floppy when you pick him up, and he totally looks like a ragdoll. I've never done DNA testing to confirm but his vet is pretty confident that one of his parents was darn near close to full ragdoll. As far as foundations go (I could talk about cats all day, too!), if a foundation still feels tacky by the time I go to apply my blush/bronzer/highlight, I set it, for two reasons - 1) if it will stay tacky all day, I can't stand when hair gets stuck to my face. So I want to avoid that, and 2) if it's tacky, it is hard for me to blend powder products like blush and bronzer on top of it. They just sort of stick where my brush first hits and don't blend out nicely. So if I set the foundation, it's no longer tacky and other products glide right over it.

Yep I'm testing that for a follow up! I've only tried it once so far (with the Nyx hydrating drops) and it worked well and only made the finish a little bit less matte (which I actually liked).

Geek Out of Water that sounds very promising! Did it affect the wear time? Did you still set around the nose with powder and how did that go? Oh by the way I’ve been trying Milani conceal and perfect foundation powder for a couple of weeks. I’ve tried literally every foundation powder at Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom (Bobbi, MUFE, LM, Cover Fx, Dermablend, NARS, BM, KVD, LG, and more I just can’t list them all) and have never found anything that didn’t look cakey and I don’t know why. For some reason tho, this Milani powder actually seems smoother and more natural looking. Emily Noelle made me buy it, bc I’d been trying to make Charlotte Tilbury powder work for me and she had said she liked the Milani more. I would maybe have to agree with her even tho they aren’t exactly the same thing (foundation vs setting) HOWEVER if I use Milani powder to set foundation or just concealer it just looks too cakey. But just alone over sunscreen (Prem blue ray, You made me buy it!) and a light to medium coverage amount applied with a damp beauty blender Milani looks quite natural, though it is definitely matte. I just use enough to sort of fade out my sunspots, but if I go for total cover it does look cakey and dry on me. FYI I have a 42 year old mug, and I’m combo skin, so not sure how dry skin people would feel about it. But I feel like it would be worth trying for the crazy reasonable price of around $10. And I’m not a drugstore makeup kinda girl whatsoever. This powder is literally all I have from drugstore. Just wanted to share that bc I love your testing videos and you compelled me to share back ;) 😘

I just picked up that Milani powder today! With the Cover FX Power Play and 2 drops of Nyx oil, the other trick is that I definitely need to set it with powder and that really helps it to stick around. So far I've only set it with the CT powder (the one time I tried it with the Nyx oil drops) and it worked well (but that powder does tend to work well on me - I don't think there's anything magic to the powder... just whatever powder works for your skin). I'll definitely be getting more into no-foundation days (or powder only) as it gets warmer out! Please keep sharing your testing LOL! I buy stuff based on your recommendations, too!

Looking forward to your take on the powder! I don’t think it looks as nice as liquid foundation. But it’s ridiculous how fast application is. So I want it to give it a chance to work for sake of time. But if I decide liquid definitely looks better, I’ll end up going back to liquid. But like I said I’m still playing around with it with diff products underneath and diff setting sprays to see if I can get it looking just as good. I want to add also when I tried MUFE multitasking powder, it looked sooo smooth. I though I had found holy grail-until I realized it was making my face itch. Boo! So if you’re really on the hunt for a good powder foundation and you don’t love Milani, maybe consider trying that one. Hopefully you won’t itch like I did. I have the exact same issues so I don’t think this foundation will work for me. Love the range of colors, and I believe they have some olive shades also. Your kitties are precious!

They do have some olive shades! It's a very impressive shade selection. The Natural Finish foundation works a lot better on my skin. I'll tell the kitties they've got fans :-D

Thank you thank you thank you! I've been waiting for you to review this one! I really want to support Cover Fx. Due to their inclusiveness of shades etc! I'm not pale and I'm not dark. My skin is quite tan, normal for me. I tan like a bronze goddess. So if my body is super tan my face isn't due to use of sunscreen and hats. Therefore, I have a hard color to match. Tarte doesn't have my perfect shade in any of their bases. Maybelline is a drug store brand that almost matches! Most of my foundations are too light. But, to get the correct undertone (very important to me), the shades aren't too good! *My English is terrible today, you'd think I'd never spoken in full sentences before! 😅* I am looking forward to the new Covergirl foundation launching next month and of course your review! If you are able and willing! 😉 I've very much become a great fan of yours! Take care and thanks again! 😗L

I was hoping to find the new Cover Girl early (sometimes it pops up in my local stores sooner) but no luck! I'll definitely get my hands on it this summer. I would much rather find a perfect undertone match than a perfect lightness/darkness match because the wrong undertone can just make you look ill! Lightness and darkness can be adjusted at least a little bit with powder/bronzer/etc. The undertone is key! I'm so glad to see drugstore brands putting out more inclusive and comprehensive shade ranges. Bravo to Cover Girl!

My cats want to "groom" my makeup brushes -- gotta put them on a shelf too high for them to reach. lol Silly creatures! It's too bad this foundation is a little drying/emphasizing texture. I have the over CoverFX foundation but haven't used it in a while -- I need to revisit it, especially since it's getting warmer.

I was thinking it was just a repackaging but you're right - it looks like a new matte version of the previous Tru Blend. I'll see if I can get my hands on it! If it's in my local drugstores or Walmart I can get it, but I won't have time to have it shipped before I leave for my trip. I'll try to get it tomorrow!!

I didn't like the other Cover FX foundation. The one for dry skin? I don't know if I just got a dud or what, but I found it stunk to high heaven, it was sticky and gluey, and it sat on top of my skin and looked really quite awful. Love their Custom Cover Drops though. And their liquid highlighters are beautiful! Oh well, we cant win them all. I think I will pass on this one though. Too many better options out there for matte foundations. Such as the YSL All Hours. Wow, I love it so much, I haven't worn anything else since I finally got it. I might have finally found a matte foundation that beats out ELDW!

I'm telling ya, when I get to test YSL in humidity (and I just know it will be fine), it's totally going to win over my beloved ELDW because I just love the finish of the YSL so much! DW is like ol' reliable but YSL is like hot new thing on the block that's going the distance. OK I don't really know what that means. But I just edited 4 foundation reviews in a row and I am getting delirious! 😂🐰and a rabbit, just because.

Love your videos. I think you would like all foundations more if you used much less foundation. Start with a really small (like a pea size) amount and build. Give it a shot. Nothing to lose.

Since I have normal skin, I'll have to try this one and figure out if it will work for me. I'm usually a medium coverage gal so I bet I'd like it with the sponge. Do you use any BB creams in the summer? What is your favorite?

I haven't done a BB cream in a while! The two I've used in the past are the Missha BB cream and the Urban Decay One and Done (which I guess isn't named a BB cream but it's a very lightweight formula similar to a BB cream that I apply with my fingertips).

Ziva is quite the photo-bomber! Thankfully none of my 3 kitties have stolen any of my makeup sponges.......yet! Their favorite thing is when a mouse gets into the house, (our property backs up to an open field), they'll chase it into the bathroom, then one of them will grab it and take it into the bathtub. There, all 3 take turns chasing it around the tub. Not pretty. :(

Hooo boy that's got to be fun to find, mouse (or what's left!) in the tub! My guys are all indoors (high-rise building) so the worst I find is a random flying critter here and there... and the cats all say, "It's a GIFT, Mom!" 😺

LOL! Mine are all indoor only kitties too. But my house is 60+ years old and those tiny field mice find all kinds of cracks between the bricks, despite all efforts to plug them up! What bothers me is that they no longer kill the poor little thing. This tiny mouse is limping around looking miserable. I have to catch him and take him back outside. I walk across the street to let him go in hopes he doesn't come right back in minutes later. :/

Hi Kimberly! I hope you're well! I've done polls here and there and music is a pretty polarizing topic (seems people either love it or hate it). I did a series of music and makeup called "Makeup and Chill" for 13 episodes. I'll have to rotate something like that in again :)

I've been experimenting with not always setting it, thinking it might be contributing to dryness, but so far I'm finding that every foundation I don't set just breaks down super fast on me. I won't be experimenting much longer lol. I always set my foundation as a general rule.

I'm in a wedding at the end of June (lots of flash photos expected), and I'm looking for a drugstore foundation recommendation. I want something pretty full-coverage, and my main problems are foundation settling into my smile lines and large pores. What would you recommend for my dry, pale skin?

I haven‘t tested many foundations in flash photo conditions but I know the Wet n Wild Photo Focus is specifically tested in a variety of lighting conditions to be good in photos. It smells like paint but is a nice looking foundation.

I have a Dermablend in my bin awaiting review - can't remember which shade but if I got it in my light (non-tanning) shade I'll get it into the tail end of the Foundation Mega-Fest! (I'm filming 15 reviews in a row now to post June 8-22. I have a few left to film!)
