I am just starting Hospice so Thank you for all the great info. My concern is I have been on Tramadol for 5 plus years, max dosage 8 pills 50 mg every day for severe neck pain. I feel my body is use to these now and they dont work as well. I think morphine will work better but I dont want to just stop the tramadol I am affaid of withdrawal symptoms. I have already been given a "test|" run of morphine 2 15 mg pills cut in half taken every 6 hours and I felt nothing but a bit sleepy. I also take 4 clozapams every day which also make me sleepy, I dont want to be sleepy all the time. Will the morphine help with the withdrawal symptoms? TY!
Long acting morphine - the 15mg tabs called MS Contin cannot be cut in half because they are time release. If it is 15mg tab of MS IR (immediate relief), it can be divided and lasts about 4 hours. Only you can tell if the morphine helps your pain. Methadone is often used for long term pain with a neuropathic component. It is a great pain reliever and doesn't cause sedation. I assume you are being cared for by an appropriate MD - hopefully one a pain specialist. Best wishes and Thanks for watching and keep us in your focus.
