Any hardcore JM fan can really feel that guy in the crowd saying "OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD" when he hits that first note. What a trip... Edit: I finally got a custom shop strat after waiting most of my life to buy it. I called her Lydia ☔️🖤
You know, being as close as you were, I wonder if he heard you yell out in all your joy and excitement. If he did, I bet it made him feel great, too. I know I certainly loved it!
I worked as hard as I could for 9 hours and then drove 2 hours in the pouring rain to see this show. By myself. Seeing him play this, in your atmosphere and edge of desire in one night is the best thing that's ever happened to me. Thanks for uploading
I was there. And it was such a magical few minutes. Most of the people got caught in the pouring rain on the way to venue. I made a joke on Instagram how "he better play covered in rain" because of how rare it is. I didn't expect it at all. But when it happened I was one of the few around my section who knew what special magic was taking place. Chills the whole night.
Same thing happened to me when he played split screen sadness. I was freaking out and everyone was like ?? Except one girl in front of me she turned around with a huge smile. Fun little moment.
The cool thing is that's the guitar John bought with the money he made working for a gas station when he was 17! That guitar sure has one hell of a story to tell
Trey Meares at first I thought it was a srv signature strat but it wasn't. I don't know much about Mayer but I'm slowly digging into his music and it's hitting me right in the heart and soul. I know that he's a huge srv fan for sure and I have a signature srv strat and it took me till I was 21 to be able to afford my actual real guitar haha. What I'm trying to say is that John Mayer outdid himself in this video and i am now a fan of his music for sure🤣🤣🤣😂
Good notice man. He's been playing a lot recently a similar start vintage looking (same pickguard) with a lot of wear marks on it. I almost though that it's the same one. Yeah but this one look like his old mid 90s strat.
@@m3xdjc635 Hate to tell you chap, but you’re wrong! There is a full video about this guitar, which he bought with money he earned working at a gas station - it’s an SRV sig, not a custom shop strat.
ABSOLUTELY. the ATL show was phenomenal & the entire time I was wishing he would do this.. especially since it had been raining... but alas this video is great!
. This is a dream come true for JCM fans. Anyone who's been following his music knows this is so rare. Can't even imagine what this must have felt like for the people there. Guess this is one of those things that you wish for and don't expect to really come true, and then it happens and you really don't know how to react.
It's been so long.. He is so refined now, doesn't need to prove his guitar capabilities and has found his vocals. What a perfect piece of music - thanks for the upload.
I swear john is the best but there is something so magical when I watch his old videos room for squares to heavier things era maybe it's cause of nostalgia being a kid in those days listening to john haha but yeah john only gets better forreal
The Holy Grail for so many of John's fans. Myself included. This is such a spectacular song, and love how he dedicates it to the people on the lawn. Also love how he puts his hand on his heart when he sings "standing by the Missing signs" for 9/11 I presume. Thank you so much for posting Danielle.
!Now I'm standing facing west, tracing my fingers round her silhouette, i haven't gotten used to yet"... (referring to the New York skyline with the towers missing. Brilliant songwriting assuming that's what he meant.
the song that introduced me to the stratocaster and of course John Mayer just about 10 years ago. I bought any given tuesday on a discount rack at HMV and remember completely being blown away by the tones and nuances of this song. Now I have 3 stratocasters. Thank you John.
It was pouring rain that night but stopped around showtime. I was soaking wet from tailgating and the whole time I'm thinking "He better fucking play 'Covered in Rain'" I lost my shit on the opening cord lol ..Awesome performance and thank you for uploading!
I was expecting people to cheer once i recognized the actual song begin when he started singing ... sad that not enough people know this one in order for them to all anticipate its being played.. it's an oldie but a goodie.
I was there this night. It was my first time seeing him, but (and those who were there would probly agree with me) there was just something so unbelievably magical and blissful about this performance. Just the fact that he played this song was unreal. Such a beautiful song
Love this song. Quite disappointing for me that I cannot attend each and every show during tours - I've missed so many great performances of rare epic songs I may never be able to hear live. Gotta write JM and apply for a job on his crew - I can clean and tune the guitars, wire up and stuff - even for free, lol, just need to be there to hear all this magic. :)
He recently gave Comfortable a try and with Covered in rain done, I really hope that he will continue doing his old stuff. Assassin is a masterpiece, couldn't agree more. Love both the studio take and his Berklee acoustic version. +1 for Split screen sadness as well. And one more from me - Man on the side. Hope he sees all this requests. :D
This is awesome I was there that night. I'll never forget the day it rained all day long. I was so worried that it would be rained out. Come time for the concert the sky cleared and the sunset was absolutely gorgeous. I'll never forget watching it lightning over in Philly. What a great night that was
This is probably my other favorite version of this song, apart from the one in Any Given Thursday. It is so soulful. The guy yelling "oh my God, oh my God" is my spirit animal if I will also hear this song performed live by John.
The secret gem track that he low-key released on his first live album “Any Given Thursday” back in 2003. This track to this day has still never gotten a proper studio recording. It’s only lived in JM’s live stuff whenever he decides to play it (which is hardly ever). Any super JM fan knows the magnitude of just how rare this track is. If you hear this at a live show, consider yourself one of the lucky few 🍀 🎶
"And now we're people watching all the people, people watching us right back now." I love what he did with my favorite line of the entire song. Ahhh love you John
Thank God a few people at this concert were able to witness this song live. I'm forever jealous. I saw him perform most recently at MSG but he didn't play the one song I was hoping for :/
wow, Monday a. m. and yadda yadda then on comes this video and like magic Mr. Mayer takes my yadda day to a WOW cool moment & anything can happen state of being... lighting can strike☔⚡🎸😎thank you, Z
Wow......so jealous. That had to have been so special. I'd cry the second I hear that first famous chord. Danielle, thank you so much. You just rocked some true Mayer fans worlds with this one!
Getting the chance to hear this live is like pulling a holofoil Charzard card from an original Pokémon deck. One of the rarest, and probably best JM songs you could get from a show!
Thanks for uploading this! I was hoping that someone caught on video John's banter about Philly along with CIR. Best JM show I've attended so far - it was a magical night
Not really, he tends to be flat a lot more now (but honestly who cares, he had surgery on his throat a couple times and he’s busy playing the guitar amazingly). His vocal peak was Where The Light Is...like holy shit, he just sounded perfect in every song. definitely his best night of his career so far.
Man this song is so special! It kinda seems like it was not originally part of the set and John just decided to add it in to offer some nostalgia for the audience. Not to mention the actual rain that the audience dealt with coming to the show lol
Congratulations John Mayer N 2 then N1 Album. You will always be Relevant. Love your 80S album love the cover. Miami Vice Perfect. Don Henley Glen Fry and Phil Collins Vibe. Cindy 🦄
As much as I love Any Given Thursday, I think I like this version better. He was an amazing guitarist then and an even better one today, I'm so glad I was fortunate enough to be there for my 4th time seeing him! Thank you so much for the upload!
He's playing his SRV sig strat he got way back when...same guitar he slayed Covered In Rain on Any Given Thursday. I don't think that was coincidence. Just amazing.
That's cool, it looks like that's his original SRV strat he bought when he was a kid. You don't see him playing that much these days - usually the '64 more than anything else.
