I really like that you are sharing some options and not just the fabric and paper you actually choose, it sparks my imagination to see alternatives! I love your final choices and the book turned out lovely! 😍 Looking forward to the May planning!
This turned out so beautiful!! I love the tiny bit of lace poking out of the spine. And the metal corner protectors (?) look so good!! Can’t wait to watch this journal progress!!
Hello Barbara, what a find today. I am busy with a journal for a newborn and was wondering how to do the cover. WELL, you heard my cries for help and VIOLA, you were covering your new book. Thank you soooo much, now I know what to do and how to do it. It seems quite an easy process, but with me, you never know!!!!!. Perhaps glueing the cat to the cover !!!! LOL. ANYHOOOOO, thank you again for the inspiration and encouragment, you are a STAR. I also love the other materials, especially the wine one, although also not a big drinker, the labels are very cute. Hope you are well and keeping safe, Blessings and hugs as always from Cape Town. Diana
I haven't followed the making of a planner before; I would love to use a fabric to cover a book. I love love love this book cover, you made it look doable. As always Barbara, Thank you
Barbara, this turned out so pretty. And that little detail of the lace at the top and bottom was just perfect addition. I’ve used book corners before and did have to add a touch of glue but they were smaller then the ones you used. Always enjoy your videos. TFS! ❤️
This was so insanely helpful to me. I'm into embroidery and have been trying to figure out a method to cover journals with fabric I've done some on but it's been an absolute disaster until this video, so thank you so much. I'm so inspired!!! 💙
Hi Barbara, you did a marvelous job adding fabric to a book. Love your choice of fabric and I agree with you orange isn’t one of my favorite colors either. Take care and stay safe. Hugs. Theresa
I loved the cover so much..one can never go wrong with flowers..the theme, the lace and the texture all sums up to be absolutely enchanting and stunning!😊 Hope you have a peaceful day!😊🌸
Barbara this is wonderful!! The cover is gorgeous and I learned stuff, like covering the inside covers AND their facing pages and stuffing the fabric into the spine AND to put the crocheted lace in as well (in the color I voted for, I might add). 🗳😁👍 For various reasons I've not been BuJo-like I used to, and while it helped me greatly and I miss it I've kinda lost my enthusiasm for the way I did it in the previous years. I saw your prep video for April tho, and it was veerrrry appealing. I have some time yet to consider, maybe I'll join you for your new book. Love you sweetheart, mom. Muah muah! 😘❤🌞🌵😘
Adding the lace into the spine really adds to the look of this gorgeous cover. I appreciate you showing several of your options for fabric and paper and giving your reasons for choosing or not choosing each one. I like to know the thought that goes into choices being made because it helps me see things I may not have noticed on my own. I think the fraying of the edges on your fabric is so very pretty, and covering it with the paper seems such a shame. I know you said this is your first fabric cover, but have you ever seen or heard of anyone putting the paper on the inside cover first and then gluing the outside fabric on top of it? I know it sounds strange, and I am sure there is a good reason why it is done the way it is, but I do love the look of that frayed edge so much. I may give it a try and see what happens.
Thanks Jean! I’m glad seeing the thought process was helpful. I have never seen putting the paper under the fabric. Let me know how yours turned out. I guess most people prefer the neater look of not seeing the fabric edges...
Try cutting a bunch of times into some aluminum foil, and make sure to go the whole length of the scissors -- I cut into the foil and then fold it and into it again and again and it sharpens the scissors. But make sure you get the whole blade. You could concentrate on the bottom half first, cutting into the foil, and then the top half, if that's easier. :)
I've a few books with fabric, but always after I took the pages out. I was sitting here thinking, how is she going to do this? :D and then you did it and it looks amazing. For the tie closure you could punch eyelets into the front and back and put sari silk ribbon through each side to tie together. Gives it room for expansion. I love everything. All kinds of papers and styles. Mostly vintage though. Thanks for sharing.
Perfect, you seem to glide through new experiences in book making If it was me, there are heaps of things that go wrong lol Still I have made a Ephemera holder from start to finish fabric cover🤔 not bad Thank you 🇦🇺💐🌸
Aye...muy bonito!😍 love it. I was also eyeing the other textile. The wine🍷 one. I kept thinking that it can be cut up to make labels or toppers with frayed eges. 😊
That is beautiful! Gorgeous fabric and inside papers. I have made a fabric covered book but I took the guts out so it was a bit easier. Nice tips for the spine 😊
Great fabric for the cover! The one I did I used fabric for the insides as well. Not a great solution so I will use papers next time! Love the papers you chose to go inside. I wasn't sure when you first chose them but then they looked just perfect!
I have missed listening to you! You make it fun!! I love that. I am behind on watching so many videos! Catching up while cleaning today. Have a great day!💜💜
So pretty Barbara!!! On the edges near the binding if it looks luke it might fray where you cut it... just add a dab of fray check or Glue. You can never go wrong with butterflies 🦋💛🦋 such a spring like fabric. I think a pair if dollar scissors would have cut that fabric better.... lol.
I absolutely love your planners! I use a typical bullet journal right now but can't hold back being creative in it and she gets really chubby...lol! I am considering an altered book planner for my next one because of yours!! Thank you for the inspiration! Your fabric choice is beautiful!! Tough choice as they are all so pretty!! I love how you are never afraid to try something new! The lace and the metal book corners are a perfect addition!! She turned out absolutely beautiful and she is going to be fun to work in!! Great job, Barbara!! And your pliers....so cute!!
@@49dragonflies It really is a unique way to create a daily planner!! I'm in the process of completing an altered journal but it is for all my favourite recipes and I'm loving how it is turning out! I can only imagine a planner being just as (if not more) satisfying!! Can't wait to see your May monthly printables!!
And btw- this absolutely turned out great!!! I’m also just venturing into covering books with fabric! So you really inspired me and gave me hope that I wouldn’t totally ruin it!!! But my dilemma is papers for inside! And so many of those would go with my materials I have (unsure of which yet I’m using!) thank you for posting this!
Hey Barbara, how fortunate that this video was in my feed today! I am covering my new journal in fabric and your tips are timely and great. Thanks so much for sharing. Best wishes for 2022❣️
Watching a second time before I attempt to cover a book. This was a great tutorial. I love your outlook, if something doesn’t work you’ll find a way to fix it! Thanks
Continuing with my commitment to support your channel (despite this video being 3 years old now) I have once again found exactly what I was looking for, which has to be a little bit spooky as this is the subject I wanted and maybe those sneaky algorithms have already recognized you have a big fan here in NZ and you were presented to me at the head of the list. Regardless I am going to sit here , learn and be entertained at the same time.
I wish I’d seen this before making one with fabric....I forgot to clip the corners, kind of bulky, but, hopefully, I can find some metal corners to cover them...thank you for sharing...you’re the bomb!.....😻
Watching in April of 2023. So glad you learned the importance of Never use your fabric on paper 😂. Even cutting sheer fabric I notice dulls the blades. Your fabric and end papers beautiful 🩷🤗🇨🇦
That was a truly beautiful cover love the pretty fabric. I am now inspired to try this thank you for sharing. Love your channel here on utube you have some very nice pieces of work on here am off to create now thanks xxx
Love the fabric and the end papers too.. So beautiful, I would love to find some nice fabrics to cover books with, that is also thick enough so the glue doesn't show through it... I believe for thinner fabrics you can use like an interfacing type fabric. Still not done that yet🙄🤭😁💖💖
you should really add a little bit of glue to book corners because they fall off at least for me all the time no matter how hard they seem to be pressed
