The country of Ukraine has been in the news a lot over the past 10 years for very unfortunate reasons. This country in Eastern Europe has been the site of political uprisings, war and disaster. In the early days of 2020, before the current ongoing conflict in the country, Ukrainians woke on January 8th of that year, to the devastating news that one of their passenger planes had crashed shortly after take-off, with the lives of 176 people lost.
Plane crashes are rare in the modern day. Well, they have always been a rare occurrence, however relatively speaking compared to 30, 40 years ago, they just don’t occur as often as they used to and that is a testament to how far the aviation industry has come in terms of safety. Looking at air travel in the 2020s, pilots and engineers pull from over a century’s worth of experience and hard lessons learned. That is why this Disaster is so shocking.
Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752. There was nothing wrong with this plane, there was nothing wrong with the pilots, there was nothing nefarious stored in the plane’s cargo. It was purely external factors that brought this plane down.
Given how recent this event was there’s a good chance you have some idea as to what happened that night. For you see, the category of disaster this falls into is shocking and completely preventable, but it has happened on numerous occasions, and you’d expect that something like this just should not happen in the modern day. But let’s look into it, see if we can get to the bottom of it.
Let’s preface this with saying that this video has been constructed with the aid of a multitude of sources including multiple reports from the Iranian Investigation, international investigators and independent investigators alongside numerous other related sources. So with that said, lets uncover the inner workings that brought this event to the disaster it was.

It's the leaked ATC recording that's particularly chilling to me, the part where ATC said "I don't think there is a problem for you," and Flight 3768 responded "God willing, thanks." Those pilots realizing that the Ukraine flight was shot down, and they need to get their own aircraft on the ground as quickly as possible.

The Ukrainian Pilot's final maneuver is most impressive. He used the last 30 seconds of flight and bare minimum control, to crash land this plane onto an un-occupied football field. There was no way to save his own life or the lives of his passengers, but in the final moment of his life he acted to spare the lives of hundreds of people on the ground. thank you for this video.

The pilots tried SO HARD to keep her in the air and likely find somewhere to land to save everyone/somewhere to crash away from houses so nobody else lost their lives. Airspaces being open within warzones is actually more common then people realize, for example, durign the Iran-Iraq war, despite the major air war happenign between the two countries, normal international flights were maintained, which is what would lead to the Iranian passenger plane that got shot down by an american warship, which mistook it for a military plane. Another example was the Malasian Airlines plane that got shot down over Ukraine by the separatists. The same year this crash occurred I was a journalist intern at KyivPost. We received messages that the Iranian government was trying to find a way to refuse to pay compensation for the victims of the crash. I remember calling the embassy in Kyiv to inquire about this, and then the ministry of foreign affairs - inadvertently starting more diplomatic drama about this. But I remember the deep sighs overheard in the newsroom whenever yet more news would come out that the investigation was stalled, or victims weren’t getting information they deserved. But what a tragedy it was. In Ukraine we havent forgotten, and still remember what happened. If i recall correctly this plane even had a nickname - Romeo. Sending our love and solidarity with fellow Ukrainians, Iranians, and everyone else on board. Justice will be served one day. ❤ Edit: I forgot to add this but at the time, we were aquatinted with the recently retired director of UIA. (Not CEO but like the managing director.) to say this story fucked him up pretty bad is not even enough. He was pretty shaken by the fact that there was never a single crash and now a plane was downed when he finally retired. No idea how he is doing right now but I hope he is okay.

Chloe, this video is one of the best you've ever made. I remember very well when this accident happened. Even though I live in America, I was in shock and disbelief when I heard that this aircraft was shot down in Iran, and I needed to know more about the accident to start properly pointing fingers at people. The first live footage of the aircraft hitting the ground I saw was the one depicting the large distant flash, followed by others, like the close-up footage and then the missile firing. Like other passenger aircraft shootdowns, this definitely should not have happened the way it did, and Iran's response and lack of accountability and responsibility for this shootdown is absolutely unacceptable on their part, especially with the way they treated the families of the deceased. Thank you for your wonderful insight on this terrible tragedy and keep up the good work.

I remember sitting in a chair next to her, watching her sleep for a couple of hours, really enjoying the silence of it all and being super excited for our child to be born later. Being unable to sleep myself, I grabbed my phone and scrolled through the news. This disaster was the big thing happening in the world. Sitting in this silent delievery room and reading about such a horrible thing felt so surreal. I don't have any connections to either Ukraine, Iran or Canada or any of the people on board, but because of the date (the birth of my daughter), it is an event (inccident) I'll never forget. Every clue we had showed the plane was climbing, nobody tried to contact it on an commercial aircraft chamnel and it posed zero threat but we shot it down. This is the fog of war but I dont even beleive we were at war at the time. The russians shot down a korean air 007 747 in the 80s. Its interesting to me that we come down so hard on other countries for making the same mistake that the US government cleared us of any wrong doing for shooting down an airliner. Maybe we should shift the focus away from war and put some of that money into bettering relationships across the globe. One day, we will all face an outside threat. It is important to understand that it was not the drone killing of the general itself that triggered the shoot down. Immediately prior to the 752 shoot down Iran had launched tons of missiles at US bases in the ME region. Iran was on high alert expecting a proportional retaliation from the US that never came. This high alert level and paranoia combined with the Ukranian decision not to change flight plans resulted in them shooting down the 752 flight. Negligence on a 90:10 split between UI and Iran.

As soon as I saw the footage of the crash, my memory of the event came back to me. I remember seeing the footage circulating around Twitter in early 2020. Considering how much went on that year alone, I'm not surprised that I had forgotten about this, but deeply saddened because of how it seems as if everyone was talking about it until covid news dominated mainstream news, and it fell into some level of obscurity. I hope the victims' relatives and friends are in a better position in life despite everything that has transpired in the time since.

Given the current invasion, the fact that Iran shot down this Ukranian flight using Russian missile tech feels extra sinister. 😣 What a horribly awful incident and atrocious followup. I missed hearing about this at the time, so really appreciate this detailed and sensitive documentary.

Wow! That was hard hitting ( no pun intended) and the final conclusion didn’t mince its words, either. The sad fact is that passenger airliners are being shot down by military attacks (whether on purpose or by accident) far too frequently. Although not a panacea, closing airspace around conflict zones for all commercial air traffic would definitely help. Unless this happens, carriers will always be tempted to downplay the risks in the interests of profitability. They alone cannot be relied upon to make objective, balanced decisions about what is or is not safe.

When the Bulk attack happened it was minutes away from shooting down an airliner bound for Russia. BA promptly moved its route to avoid the same.
@barosangaming8174
@barosangaming8174 Год назад
Let's not forget that the Iran Air shooting happened because Iran used commercial squawk codes on their military jets for a while. Because of this, the US Navy didn't buy it and it shot the plane down thinking it was another military plane using a commercial squawk code.

As for the human shield theory, it's not without history. Iran has a habit of putting military installation especially relating to its nuclear research in populated centers like Tehran

Been waiting to see a breakdown on this disaster for a bit. I remember vividly hearing the news that morning and the procession at boryspil some time later but was never aware of the cause besides it being shot down. Eventually it’s been pushed out of my consciousness by the pandemic, war and other stuff but since discovering your channel last year or so I’ve gained awareness of more air disasters, as well as this one. Bit shocking to me that the plane was shot down deliberately and not accidentally as i believed at the time, and by the actual military no less. Anyway sorry if its a bit of a rant, thanks for this one and all the other breakdowns you do and keep up the good work ily

An "unspeakable" act would be one where you knew it was wrong but did it anyway. In this case, Iran was expecting imminent air attack by the US. It's missile batteries were on highest alert. This tragedy was a MISTAKE, & the mistaken party thought they were doing something right & proper since they believed they were shooting at an attacking aircraft (see IranAir 655). No airline transits over Ukraine these days. Why? An armed conflict. Tehran that night was one big impending armed conflict. Most international airlines were avoiding Iranian airspace for this very reason. Ironically, the airline from the country where MH17 crashed chose to fly into Iran despite this. UIA is the guilty party here; it should never have sent an airplane into a place that looked about to become a war zone.

It was an accident/operator error. Israel bombed Beirut airport in 1968 and destroyed a dozen civilian planes. They shot down Libyan Air flight 114 (1973) and Malev Air flight 240 (1975). In 1982 they invaded the Lebanon and murdered 20,000 civilians. How low can the Zionists go? ✡👿✡
