Didn't hear about this band until it was announced they were touring with Dance Gavin Dance (I'm a huge DGD fan). So I looked up their music and fell in love with it. Honestly, can not tell you how excited I am to see these guys with DGD in Toronto this year!
I remember listening to this album while hiking at a state park by myself, full clear sky, middle of the summer after a visit at a mental health hospital. I have never been so relaxed and happy just walking around with pure peace, just listening to the trees sway and birds chirp for hours on end in complete silence. Fit Aid drink in hand. That was the happiest time of my life
I've never seen someone say "most excellent" in that context, other than myself. Bravo, sir. Not saying that it's an achievement, just that it's neat to see someone take the same little linguistic flare to their comments as I do.
I'm glad I came across this. Had it in my watch later folder and started to remove it because, well the length. A pleasant surprise. Definitely a jazz element to it and some intriguing changes throughout the song. Has a definite, different production aspect. Kind of a retro sound to it. Loved the guitar playing.
This song makes me feel as if I’m losing myself within myself and I’m Learning about who and what I really am for the first time...as if I’ve never really taken a breath before...pure transcendence. How magnificent. I’ve always wanted to float away and with this, I’m able to fly free of the chains that bind me. Thank you. 💕
I love how I've listened to this song a 100 times and just now noticed the cut at 5:34. The cymbal just dissapears. But you can only hear it if you listen to the drums for the whole song. Actually seemless.
Yvette Young's guitar composition is some of the purest self expression I have ever heard or witnessed. It's like she paints a canvas with her own personality and it always turns out beautiful. Bass playing and drumming are also top notch
This album, effloresce, is incredible! Everytime I listen to it. The only track that I didnt like that much was Sea Dragon, Idk why but my ears didnt enjoy it at all. But, the album is truly art, like ... the atmosphere in it, the vibe, the feeling... Everyone in the band is extremely talented, the guitarist, the bassist, the drummer.. they deserve more people to know about them, for sure!!!
You have no idea how happy I am. dance gavin dance, Covet, hail the sun, periphery, don broco, all that is missing is Polyphia, but it's going to be the best concert I've been to. And I've see a shit ton of great bands.
Math rock is primarily instrumental and full of clean and dirty/fuzzy busy work from guitars alongside intricate drum and bass work. There is always a mashup of time signatures at the same time. So this could definitely fall into that subgenre.
@@camw621 yeah I guess it's not exactly don caballero's type of math rock but it's still similar I think, I've always thought the nomenclature for this genre was confusing. Like there's two really similar bands and one is classified as math rock while the other is post rock, what ? Anyway covet is still dope
there is no shoegaze in this though...its definitely a jazz fusion & math rock hybrid...math rock in that don cab type of way, not the spazzy noisy kind of way. i understand why shoegaze is being mentioned i guess...because it can be melodic, slow, atmospheric...but all the instrumentation is far from shoegaze in style. one thing it can seem like at times though, is second-wave midwestern emo. the melodic math rock stuff often sounds similar to that because of all the arpeggiated dissonant chords. but yea, better not call this shoegaze jazz. that would sound much, much different. if you listen to my bloody valentine, ecstasy of st theresa, and even some of the modern self-proclaimed shoegaze bands, you dont really hear any similarity in the instrumentation, complexity, guitar tone, drumming style, use of effects and processing, etc. this is extremely dry compared to most shoegaze, and shoegaze never has groove like this. ;D
People are saying they think of Rush when they hear this... Rush is one of my favorite bands and I dont hear them at all really.. weird. I literally just think "Yvette".
"Yeah,im a dog, just chilling, flying through the sky, relating to those darn birds i chase every morning......maybe i should go easy on them now.......nah fvck that, its on site at all times"⁹
