@@mpmedia6735 you can chroma key to a really specific kind of green so as long as it's lit evenly it should be OK. You can also rotoscope a rough outline of the person then chroma key that bit.
yo homie i ended up writing a silly poetry thing based on the music video and ur comment, hope that's cool. shibuya when i grow up i want to be a holographic entity that plays rad music in the open wind the tears i shed for this dream the equipment i covet the bridges i cross may astound you i fantasize of wavy summer evenings interspersed with odd time signatures and flying, soaring tapping riffs july palm trees near the empty school bleachers petals unfolding within my shadow as the sparks fly from the ever-shifting lights within me harmonies weaving, blossoming into a beautiful efflorescence
We all know that grin was beaming under the fabric tho. You can feel it. When I die, I want the angles to carry me up to the clouds to watch a Covet show and Drum Jesus will smile on my soul... assuming I'm on the "up elevator" that is
Everybody is talking about the intricate guitar playing and amazing drums (which to their credit are AMAZING, not arguing that) , but that BASS TONE and those complimentary lines to spice up the chords and have a counter melody/harmony are PHENOMENAL. This is an essential trio where all three players matter and compliment each other so well it’s absurd. This is an official hood classic 😳
My brother passed away 2 yrs ago but he showed me this song and group. Listening to it again after yrs of AAL,Plini, Polyphia and others i can now really appreciate. You were right all along Big Bro, this song is beautiful and now i tear up listening to it without you❤️
He's got a nice well tuned set he's versatile but getting to his level isn't impossible he's playing just about the funnest way tho minimalism forces a level of creativity that a large set can snuff out especially for something like melodic drumming
Saw them live in Boston last night and they were incredible. I never would have expected a freaking MOSH PIT top open up during this song but it did and it was awesome.
Elio Esposito. Yvette young had some hilarious posts and stories on her Instagram while they were filming this. They really enjoyed the green morph suit filming.
djhero0071 a subgenre of rock largely about weird, irregular time signatures, emphasis on instrumentals instead of vocals, and constantly changing melodies. And it's usually a mix of musicality with technicality.
@@ronburgundy2660 Redundant? This is more progressive than most genres of music. Most songs are still written in a verse 1 chorus verse 2 chorus style with GCEmD
@@ronburgundy2660 its not because of redundant, but simply sounds like a messy-er (is messier even an adjective?) version of jazz, i personally dislike math rock because of this, but at least some...like this one, sounds organize and i can enjoy it very much
@@yttrium6575 I'll be honest with ya chief, most jazz i heard is far, far more chaotic and messy than this. I always thought that's what people liked in jazz, the fact that everything sounds like an improvised solo even when it's not
Went to see Dance Gavin Dance, saw Covet open and fell in love with the sound, the vibe of their music, the joy all 3 of them had on their faces and the passion they had for music. Of course, the guitarist had me wrapped around her finger, that's a given. Just so much talent and love for music across the board and I enjoyed the experience thoroughly.
fadedsun303 Covet definitely has a distinct sound. You could say that about any genre, but this is definitely not an “imitation band” or a group showing off their shredding skills.
@@o.a.47 I disagree. It sounds like the weaker animals as leaders tracks.varg and amon amarth are for example both melodic death metal and don't sound alike at all. They added their own spice so to speak. This group has skill but I don't see real creative talent. Still amazing to watch of course.
It hits when you realize all the moments in your life have led you to this point. This exact point of listening to this exact song. The song that doesn’t say a word yet says more anyone could to describe the experience you get from it because there isn’t a single world or phrase. It’s the accumulation of your life and the person next to you and the person the other room and the person halfway across the world. All the moments good and bad, highs and lows brought and lay down in front of your eyes so you understand the essence of life.
Of all the music videos I've ever seen, this is one of the only ones that I actually enjoy watching, and that I feel correlates to the music in a meaningful way. At least, that's what I personally think. Thank you for your great art and work Covet!
Im a divorced loser who comes to oceanside from 5 hours away to see his daughter And tonight I'm sleeping in my car in the harbor listening to plini And RU-vid recommends this to me and I almost passed it over but I thought San Holo who is that? I gotta hear it just cuz whoever came up with that name is mad creative, and now here I am just listening. Music is a trip
ive heard pieces of this song for a long time leading up to the album and it still blew away all my expectations. it's so emotionally charged and incredibly talented. hits me in the feels in a way i can't describe. can't wait for the rest of the album!
J Pettey when you start listening to the style and learning the songs it becomes more natural than you’d imagine. It’s still insanely challenging. Can’t imagine how long it takes to compose these and get them tracked and mixed right
It really depends on your approach to music in general, honestly. Some people like to hear it out loud, and piece it together. Some still like to figure out a few different ideas on paper and work out the connections later. If you really want to make good math rock (or any sort of progressive music) I think learning more about music theory is the first step. Having examples to work off of is another good step. I’d look at Schism or Lateralus by Tool if you want to hear some more solid examples of using advanced rhythm to communicate ideas. Another elementary example is “My Curse”, by Killswitch Engage. It has a pretty easy to digest time signature switch that can help you take the first steps to writing your own music with time signature changes.
The guitar tone crushed my hopes and dreams. I'm now a hermit living in the Hebrides. I walked 10 miles to the nearest public library to write this comment.
For the ones that came back to this still in 2020 or later years. (in my opinion) this song literally depicts the love that Yvette and Sander (San holo) had. The moment Sander came into the shot the green screen images became blooming flowers meaning the blossoming of their relationship (yes they had a relationship) Sadly people come and go so this isn't the case anymore. San holo also made a song about love later on called "Love wip" (wip is edm language for work in progress) in which you can hear a clip of Yvette talking about love. On San holo's album 1 commentary album you can hear him talk about the meaning of that song and with the information I just gave you, this clip of him talking about it makes it a lot more understandable. Have a nice day and let's spread some love during these hard Covid-19 infected times.
Yo... you made me have an epiphany over that. I’ve listened to “love (wip)” many times but I never made the connection that it was Yvette. Thanks for enlightening me haha
@@thatsbetoman doesn’t matter literally the whole comment stays the same. Idk how people can “correct” others on such a heartfelt comment 😂 just read it and feel nice okay?
I always gotta SMDH when people complain about "music sucks today" because all they do is listen to the radio and expect stuff to come _find them._ There's more musical variety today than ever before in human history, and you can find pretty much ALL OF IT right here on the internet, including whatever "good old days" stuff you're lamenting. Instead of complaining you should be thanking your lucky stars! So many amazing groups like Covet exist almost entirely _because_ they can reach a fan base via the internet. What a time to be alive...
TWO THINGS: 1.)Yvette Young is a GORGEOUS human being that ive had a huge crush on for like 3 years! 2.)I wish they played more of that small little progression @ 0:46 to like 0:50
god i love this song i feel like im in an anime and im just chilling with with friends, but you know, im actually studying. This is a very upbeat song but it doesnt feel cliche like most upbeat songs. 10/10 would listen to forever.
It's really the drums that make this what it is. The bass and guitar is amazing. But the changes in drum rhythm and his syncopation is like 💋👌.. he also thows in some polyrhythms the cymbol changes are what really change the tone of the entire song, they are notnot just background beat and tempo filler,
I think once you find the right people to play with, and you learn your instrument at a great level, math rock is the most fun music to play and improvise
