Sounds a little like reassurance during a messed up response in the U.S. and refusal to admit that we are going to see a lot of serious sickness here and a lot of death and that we just have to accept that. It seems we are very unprepared. We have a system in which people who are unable to cope with a $400 emergency are going to have to absorb ambulance costs, multiple testing costs, initial outlay for stocking an emergency supply for possible shutdowns, and the copayments, premiums and deductibles for hospitalization. We don't have enough community hospitals, we don't have masks and are being told we don't need them, we don't have tests. People are deep into self preservation or denial. On the mask issue, today Dr Fauchi in a Senate hearing on COVID-19 admitted that in a situation of a lot of community transmission, N-95 masks for the general population can be helpful in reducing infection. It might not completely protect the wearer, but it will protect others if you are asymptomatic and are shedding virus. The truth is that there is an international shortage and we are unprepared. In California where we have had some lovely warm days I saw parents with children in communal swimming pools and hot tubs. I don't know if that is a good thing. People are eating in restaurants, standing in long lines to vote, going to political rallys and standing in close long lines in grocery stores and hardware stores. Nobody is talking about what to do with our homeless population to control transmission. What about closing shelters or opening more? How is that population supposed to do about handwashing? My Advantage plan will not dispense drugs in advance. You need to be within a short period of running out. I only have a one month supply and I have no confidence that my drugs will be available in another month. We normally do not test healthy people but COVID-19 has a long incubation period in which people are shedding virus. if we can't test apparently healthy people in areas with community infection we cannot isolate all the people who need isolation. The spread cannot be slowed. We have not been frank about overwhelmed hospitals and the criteria for triage. Will sick elderly with comorbid conditions be treated first or last?

Well have problems but we seem to be a lot more prepared than Obama was with the H1N1 swine flu virus that killed over 12,000 Americans.. Obama never stopped a single flight in or out of the country and he never even declared it an emergency until after the first 1000 people in the US had died.

EVERYONE PLEASE LISTEN TO ME ABOUT STOCKPILING MEDICATIONS: Step one, make sure you have an up-to-date script that can be filled by your pharmacist. Step two, call your insurance company and LIE TO THEM. Tell them you are going out of the country for however many months you want to tell them and that you need to get a vacation override. Use those exact words “vacation override.” You will need to tell them that you are leaving as soon as you can get your vacation override medications. You will have to most probably give them a specific leave date in an expected return date. This is only to fill in the software blanks. Do not be concerned about this part. Step three, do this now! Severe medication and other supply disruption is coming to your neighborhood pretty damn soon. “He who hath an ear let him hear.” That’s coming from an atheist…. Oh, and the poor and uninsured? They are f-ed as usual. This is the land of Plastic Patriots and Pseudo-Christians don’t ‘cha know?. National health care anyone?

George Steckert, Ordinary surgical masks don’t keep out viruses. They are used my medical staff to prevent THEM from infecting patients. The N95 masks is the only one to keep viruses out. The ordinary mask makes you feel protected and will stop you from touching you mouth and nose. The main part of your body that will help give you the virus are your hands. When you touch surfaces that people have been coughing and sneezing over, you pick up the virus, rub your eyes or put your finger in your nose or mouth and the virus will grow. Wear gloves when out in public. Watch Dr. John Campbell on RU-vid.

Viruses are very small. They can enter your body even if you have an N95 mask on. There has also been evidence that it can enter through your eyes. Having a mask on and thinking you are "protected" will be a big mistake. You will go out in public and end up with the covid19 by being misinformed. Read up on these things on Wikipedia so you know for yourself.

The coronavirus measures only one hundred nanometers in diameter. Once it is airborne it can easily go through an N95 mask. A sick person wearing a mask does help as it stops the vapor that carries the virus when they cough.

Just about all developed western countries have national health care systems, we are ranked last among those. Our health care system is about as good as the one in Afghanistan. Epidemics/Pandemics like this is a good reason to have one, now those without insurance are highly likely to not get tested or treatment and will go around spreading the virus.

Here in the U.S., the Trump Administration and CDC are very incompetent in handling the coronavirus crisis. They had more than a month to get ready. Yet they're still very unprepared. They don't test the people who come into the country. They have to send all the test kits to CDC in Atlanta to get the results, which takes days. All stores are out of face masks of any kinds (including masks for painting), and of all hand sanitizers. Many people are hoarding toilet papers. In San Antonio (Texas), CDC let a woman out of the quarantine. She went out shopping at a big mall and eat outside for 12 hours. Later, CDC realized the woman was tested positive and had to bring her back. The mall closed for a deep cleaning and the city declared an emergency. Who knows how many people she has infected now.

In the first category of the GHS Index which is to “detect, prevent and respond”.the US has been utterly inept, arrogant, and flat footed. Compared with the excellent response in South Korea and even in China, the US has been exposed for its incompetence and it renders this ranking index completely worthless. The critique of countries not being forthright in providing information is certainly a valid concern...but so is inflating the perceived “true competencies” of one’s own country that are now showing massive inadequacies and lack of leadership. With six weeks of advanced notice to NOT even have any capacity to test is a scandal and outrage. The second shoe will drop and expose the deeper inadequacies of the US health system to deal effectively with this crisis.

It's a lot of titles and letters after names, but does that actually put anything into practice? Even if America were fully prepared to face an epidemic the political backing is completely lacking and any ordinance made for prevention is already too late to be enacted. Italy has just now enacted a rigid quarantine much like China, which can be one of the only ways to prevent the spread. Although these professionals with several letters after their names say that we are prepared, it can't be further from the truth obviously. Testing cannot be done, the president cannot even agree with the person he put in charge of the pandemic, travel is open and available for everyone, supplies and personal protective equipment and disinfectant is non-existent, and local governments are continuing their business as usual without any regard for the rapid spread of this virus. Look at China, Italy and Iran, this is serious and the WHO warned us but America is too foolish and opinionated to do anything to prevent a disaster.

Why are hospitals and clinics buying masks from Walgreens and drug stores? Why aren't they procuring them in bulk from the manufacturer or whoever/whatever the purveyor is? I can understand that everyone running out and stockpiling is ludicrous but when they say the general public shouldn't be buying masks because the clinicians and hospital workers need them just doesn't make any sense. Those are excellent researchers. They study, analyze, and write papers. But what America needs the most at the moment are people with real-life experience of addressing challenges in high-pressure situations when lives are at stake. Unfortunately, too many of these people are not here on American soil. They are still busy holding the global American Empire together. Bring them home and empower them to override the researchers and the bureaucrats! Researchers think on grants scale. Bureaucrats think on budget cycles scale. We need generals, officers, and soldiers, who *act* on “do it now if you want to survive” scale. The Chinese response and Korean response were so quick, strong, and effective because their armies are fighting the virus, which is by far the most dangerous enemy. Civilians in face masks? Nobody is giving emphasis to the important fact that for 97 percent of the population, they would be over this in a few days just like the flu if they got it. There were 31 million flu cases this year. The flu is an appropriate analogy for 97 percent of people because for them COVID-19 is about the same. Elderly people matter, I'm all for taking measures to make their protection from the virus a priority. But doing so should not require massive compromises to the health and quality of life for the 97 percent of the population who would be over the virus quickly if they got it, because it is not more dangerous to them than the flu. We should do our best to protect the sick and elderly, but not to the extent that our whole way of life revolves around doing that. Elevating the longevity of people near the end of their life to a level of importance greater than the health and well being of the rest of the population is insanity. Many elderly people are in terrible health and suffering a lot... death for them is not a universally bad thing. Dialogue about true cost/benefit analysis and all choices need to take place, including an exit strategy if we are not able to achieve this goal in a reasonable time frame beyond which would be incredibly detrimental to the health and well being of all of us. If ever there was a time for people to find their voice and start making theirs heard, it is now. Because the people in charge are not deep thinkers who thought this through while considering other choices. Which include accepting that trying to eradicate this pathogen may likely fail. And that some people dying who are going to die within a few years anyway may be preferable to creating real health issues and sickness out of fear, stress, and sleep loss for way more people who don't owe the sacrifice of their own health and quality of life to the sick and elderly.
