I'm glad to see this discussion about the connection between long haulers and MCAS. My wish is that after this more doctors decide to specialize in mast cell disorders. I'm sure it's much more prevalent than anyone knows, yet finding an MCAS specialist is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

I'm a masto patient... Yeah, there are like 9 mast cell specialists in the world... then there are all the other doctors who know nothing about them. But when you know mast cells intimately as us masto/mcas patients do it is easy to immediately see the covid19/mast cell connection. To be quite honest, I panicked for months starting late Jan of 2020 when I started processing the current avail info on C19 bc I was acutely aware of my mast cell madness and what could potentially happen if I were to get C19 so I am very careful and I am on Ivermectin prophylactically. So far so good. Mask up!

Thanks Dr Been; I have MCAS and this is the best introduction to mast cell biology I have seen. You make topics accessible without dumbing them down. I hate mast cells, too - but of course they have important functions. Some have fallen by the wayside as we have become more hygienic and no longer suffer as much from intestinal parasites and - very important not to forget - ectoparasites, & that has lead to dysregulation of mast cells. Some cases of post-covid MCAS may be brand new, triggered by covid infection itself. I think my MCAS and my daughter's Celiac and oral allergy syndrome may have been triggered by an infection - possibly from our cat, who also has numerous food intolerances (he can only eat an Rx hypoallergenic duck-based cat food). Cats suffer from coronavirus infections, so I do wonder about that. We both also had a really terrible bronchiolitis a few years ago (symptoms were as bad as H1N1, which I had the misfortune of catching in 2009); the doctor said it was probably viral, but we had both eaten cheese that was later recalled due to Listeria contamination and got sick within the incubation period. Listeria can apparently linger in the bone marrow. Another possibility - a little weird, but interesting - is that a few months before we became ill the birch tree in front of our house became infested with bag worms and their frass (poop) was all over the front lawn and driveway. Insect feces can be immunostimulatory and we are both now allergic to birch. Along with the other things mentioned in the video, I think selenium as selenomethionne is useful and also use of HEPA room air filtration unit seems to help. I work out fasted first thing in the AM to avoid exacerbating symptoms (just eating causes mast cell activation). Edit: Magnesium is also really, really helpful - I'd say it outranks most of the other supplements, actually. Just be careful about heavy metal contamination (esp. lead).

I AM a FAN of Mast Cells. I am a retired clinical lab scientist which believes my body is wonderfully made. While I appreciate the info & review I cannot imagine how "researchers " keep imagining they can improve a wonderful system they do not understand and even worse massively change the way it interacts with the environment and natural biome. While I was not originally against the use of vaccines the overuse and abuse of vaccines is to me the biggest threat facing the world. (Antibiotic resistance on warp speed for one) I think article you linked to is interesting and hope to print it. More than anything I believe this points to reason for all the animal deaths in SARS1 vaccine attempts and frankly points to possibility of disaster with injection of mrna and ALL foreign substances into body. I firmly believe the increase in allergy and auto immune disease is occurring because of too much "intervention" by humans in an intricate system. Ignoring things like mast cells (mucus membranes, etc) in big pharmas BS "criteria" that antibody production ALONE is sufficient to claim vaccines are "effective " is a big lie. B cells are way down the line as you know. You don't like Mast cells and are now suggesting a mast cell "stabilizer " be added to our unatural diet? While our "go to" CDC tells us to wear masks, social distance and stay inside. So. We do not get needed vitamin D from sun. We do not get as much exposure to everyday viruses that help train our immune system naturally. We are deprived of exercise and O2. Some are being forced to wear masks all day and therefore forced to wear a CO2 incubator on their face - increasing bacterial growth and re breathing poisens. It is a shame and crime that people are being deprived of information needed to survive and defend themselves. They are being deprived of the "happy signals" sent straight from the face to the brain when we smile at each other (let alone try to speak.) Can the EXPERTS really mess people up anymore? I fear they are about to where we are awash in myriads of experimental vaccines and known vaccine injuries hidden rather than properly investigated. Vaccines need to have LIABILITY FREE STATUS ENDED IMMEDIATELY! You would see vaccine programs drop to about zero. Instead you wish to add to the porridge. I do not feel you immediately to be a "bad man" so what's up with this? Are you just so hooked in science and tech you see no other way to go? Answer a couple questions please: What GOOD do Mast Cells do?? Bet it's a lot isnt it? Could we live without them?

That's called a trigger. Everything making you react, is something you have been in contact with before. Otherwise your mast cells would not know when to release mediators. There is a slim-to-none chance that there was something in the shot that triggered you. My mom is allergic to embryo of egg. That's not the same as eggs. Thank you for this very interesting topic. I wanted to know if the MCAS is linked to the fact that less and babies are being exclusively breast fed. Secondly has any research been done regarding the micro biota of the gut of people with MCAS? Thanks for clarfying.

The microbiome absolutely plays a major role in MCAS. Start healing the gut and taking a good quality probiotic and homemade fermented foods and you’ll start to see a change. Local raw honey as well!

Dear Drbeen I follow your channel because it is accurate and educative. I need information on PEG test for people with Mastocytosis or MCAS. Can you interview Dr Mariana Castells from Brighan and Women in Boston. She is the only MCAS specialist on the Northeast of USA. There are hardly any doctors with knowledge on MCAS and people underdiagnosed.

Very good and great cartoons. Ann Maitland has some great discussions of the mast cells but she does not link it to the long hauler covids. I never had these problems before covid. it was a killer to me, and a year later I am still fighting it, I am disabled now because of it.

I love the videos by Ann Maitland because she actually explains the reasons why you can get MCAS, like infections, 2 or 3 copies of the tryptase gene, autoimmune disease or food sensitivities. Of course the mast cells are located in the connective tissue. What seems to help me big time is being VERY careful what I eat. Almost carnivore. Grass fed meat only. Very careful what produce I eat. Organic only. Use reverse osmosis. No meds. Often I have heard its linked to black mold exposure too.

Thank you for your educational videos when the virus hit our home we had not done a research and we were not prepared we only practice prevention so my son had worse symptoms than me he goes to the Banner hospital emergency room in Glendale Arizona they tell him he has pneumonia they give him prednance on an antibiotics by the third day of starting the meds had to call 911 they hospitalize intubated and died I'll make a long story short I want it answers I didn't know what happened so I did my research which took a while and then went into the hospital information portal where I could clearly see that he had been given a wrong diagnosis the report had a lot of information I could see the vitals were good his breathing was very good the doctor checked his lungs set the lungs were clear yet when it got to the PA to release him all she saw was Covid and automatically sent pneumonia she did not look at the details like I did what he really had was a residual effects of covid he was about one or two days free of covid but the PA was too much of in a hurry to get them out and just prescribe them a poison that Lord his immune system and kill them lawyers will not take covert cases when I come French at the hospital about their protocol they said we do not have protocols just suggestions well I wish they would have told that to my son that it was just a suggestion and not prescribed the meds that killed them it's the same way with the Lexi now I believe that bringing it out too soon too fast and then the long run because they're not looking at the details it will do more harm than good I know I'm not getting the vaccine I believe the lie that they told us about my son having pneumonia I'm not believing this lie.. vaccine will make things better

The poster girl for m.e., Jennifer did a film called "unrest". The mast cell ate her collagen and ligaments in the neck which caused an acquired form of ehlers danlos syndrome. Cranio cervical instability. She has now been diagnosed with mcas. I got interested in this when I notice everytime I had fresh orange juice my anxiety went away. I asked every doc I saw over years. They just said I was a psychiatric case. Look at Janice jonela too. She's known about this for 40 years. It's crazy that no one in the UK knows. Diaezepam is great but the docs won't prescribe it here. So disappointed in the medical community. Not you sir, but how the hell do I know this as a sufferer...it's terrible and negligent and just shows the intransigence if medical communities

How are symptoms or labs usefull for knowing if have mild or not so mild over reactive MCAS (or related) ?? Have some symptoms but no IgE allergies. Test for IgA or M or D...? Tryptase was 3.3. Best info have found is lowhistaminechef , lots of research and references. If mast cell stabilizers might overdo and cause easier to be "infected" unless put into just part of body as read Israel is testing one breathed in so just to lungs.

Drbeen Medical Lectures- HI Dr. Today 6/26/21 I am looking at this video. I'm very interested in the Covid topics because I lost one family member due to poor medications & one recovered. My aunt 85, received HCQ protocol, and so I'm learning about Long Haul...She does not want to take the vax due to her allergies...which when listening to your detailed explanation, I believe this is what she has ...MCAS. I'm not a Dr. but when I spoke w/ her she explains these very simptoms from time to time. I manage her supplements having learned early on she needed D3, Vit C, Zinc 50 mg., so I will now incorporate Quercetin & switch off CoQ10...Thank you so much for this video...so I'm catching up on so much out there...God Bless You..

I had COVID last June and recovered in 12 days. Only had low grade fever and lost sense of taste for 4 days. Body aches for a few days were pretty bad, especially back pain. No after effects and I am 56 years of age with no underlying medical issues EXCEPT for histamine intolerance when I eat certain foods. Not quite full blown MCAS, but I do have a mast cell issue, BUT when I had COVID I took 17 different supplements such as Quercetin Phytosome, zinc, D3/K2, NAC, R-Lipoic Acid, and a few more.

I believe to have gotten Covid in March 2020. There were no tests at that time. I was mildly sick for about a month. Then in July 2020 the long hauler symptoms started. I’ve been tested for pheo/paraganglioma, hormone disorders, autoimmune, brain scans and ultrasounds. Everything also came back negative/clear. I was getting extreme adrenaline surges that would spike my heart rate to 170-200. I’ve had to many symptoms to list here. My cardiologist did a full workup and diagnosed me with Dysautonomia/POTS. I was then sent to an allergist/immunologist for MCAS testing. Those test came back positive. Since starting treatment I’ve improved tremendously. I recently had a T cell test which came back negative. In October 2020 I tested negative for antibodies. I’m so confused 🤔 All my symptoms point to Covid, but I have no proof. I don’t have allergies. I clearly have MCAS. Is it possible that the mast cells cleared the virus. Would this explain the lack of T cell and antibodies showing up on tests?

Watch Dr Maitland's videos on the Ehlers Danlos Society channel. She lists: 1. Untreated infection 2. 2 or 3 copies of the tryptase gene 3. Autoimmune disease 4. Its very common in people who have joint hypermobility like EDS as the mast cells are in the connective tissue 5. Many, many people report they got it after black mold exposure. 6. She also said sometimes the mast cells are just fighting dangerous things like toxins or nasty chemicals. 7. Eating foods you are sensitive to.
