Cowans Sheldon built their first railway recovery crane in 1866. Since then the name has been synonymous with the railway industry. One customer reported at the turn of the century that their 19th century steam cranes were 'reaching the end of their useful life'. State of the art multi-tasking cranes capable of travelling at high speeds, rail delivery and recovery systems and other engineered by Cowans Sheldon today, may well last as long! Cowans Sheldon equipment assists customers in providing an efficient railway system enabling them in turn to provide a better railway service to their customers.

I've seen trains with much longer rail lengths in North Carolina CSX lines.

US loading gauge is larger than the UK and has a higher line capacity because US railroads are freight orientated at low frequency, hence the massive railway yards. The UK railway network is primarily for passenger trains at a high frequency and as such, signalling sections are smaller to increase capacity and that's what dictates maximum train length.

Will it be used to rebuild old railways as well as maintaining current ones?
