Cowboy 4500 Shuttle and Race 

There is a spring inside the bobbin case. I have found that I get more reliable tensioning with that spring removed. The only problem with this is if you need to do any high-speed sewing, which I never need to do.

Thank you very much for showing this detail about the shuttle of this type of machines. I tried to find a bit out about the needle-hook distance. I do not have the CB 4500, but I notice your remark, that you should aim for little play of the shuttle direction, that can change this distance. When I look at household sewing machines with a CB oscillating shuttle hook (somewhat similar to the CB 4500), they got a large play able to make a play of needle-hook distance of 0.3 mm. I do not know why the manufacturers choose to have this high play, but it could be to avoid a stop of the machine if the thread gets into the race. Furthermore these kind of shuttle hooks do not seem to be able to take advantage of the needle scarf.

If you want to experiment with different spacing, which is useful to do if you find yourself alternating between thin-needle projects and thicker-needle projects, you can shim the spacer temporarily with card stock.

Uwe master please help. reverse problem. How to set the reverse so that the sewing machine sews back hole to hole. I sew, for example, 4 mm stitches, I do reverse and the lever only reaches 0, it doesn’t go further. Seiko CH 8 B
