Reminds me of the author for the pervy jackson books, he has gone on to stake that he is in no way affiliated with the films and that he dislikes their existence as a stain on his books.
I only remembered (and was fed this video) bc I've been listening to Tank! in preparation for possibly adding it to my musical light show. I made it to Ep 2 and then memory holed that dumpster fire lol
@@mrkaji8913 which one do you mean the Fullmetal Alchemist one or do you mean Dragonball evolution or Gintama live-action movies or should I continue because all of these that I mentioned are garbage which good ones there are no good ones and good live action adaptation is adaptacion that was never made.
It's almost like not letting on the original creator be an active participant in the work you're trying to emulate and that people want to see is a bad idea. Who coulda fuckin' seen that coming
By having a shoddy imitation to compare it to, it really helps demonstrate what the original Cowboy Bebop got right, and how much artistry and heart went into making it
Bebop is my favorite anime. It's genuine, real, funny, happy, sad; but most importantly its somber. It will make you cry and smile at the same time. The live action was just jokes. They were to scared to touch on any of the emotions that made bebop timeless and loved. It boggles my mind how 2d cartoons can make me more emotional than actual live people.
I’ve only seen clips of the live action series, but didn’t they change Faye into a one dimensional, sex-starved, idiot “action girl” instead of a well rounded character?
Yea it's always nice when they blame the actual fans of something for their shoddy work. It makes you just want to run out and watch the polished mechanical turd they created.
Considering the hassle Watanabe exprrienced while working on The Animatrix, I don't blame him for being jaded with Hollywood. I'm just glad that Oda is heavily involved with the upcoming One Piece adaptation, and the people working on it are passionate about meeting his approval.
Yeah, in comparison spikes actor is way too old and Ed’s was so awful that everyone collectively breathed a sigh of relief when they realized that she only had one scene
They did him so wrong, since the early 2000s he's been always on board to work with Hollywood to make a live adaption. 20 Years past and it happens only for it to suck
the actors actually did a great job in the live action adaptation of cowboy beebop. is just too bad that they had netflix staff, filming, effects, and writing to work with.
It was the whole creative process that messed this adaption. Cowboy Bebop is almost if not perfect to its storytelling. Its theme, pacing, world building, characterization and narrative telling was 10/10. It was solid trying to do something else and masquerading it as an adaptation of the original is basically suicide.
They had several different scriptwriters at different times (not working together in a team). Unsurprisingly, the style and interpretation changed. Live Action was only 8 episodes, and it couldn't even maintain coherence.
The script had some ideas worth exploring - the idea of giving Vicious some personality (not THAT but some), more space to Faye and Jet, explaining the Red Dragon Syndicate. But the execution, my God
I hear you to an extent, maybe it would've been nice in the original to know more about the syndicate, or have Vicious fleshed out more etc...but honestly, sometimes less is more. You can say it's shallow or surface-level writing, but I think Watanabe gave us exactly what we as an audience needed to see with the characters and the world they were in. I don't think Bebop was meant to be a deep exploration of lore like other works of fiction.
There are two types of people, people who like anime should watch only anime, but to people who like live action, for sure they will appreciate the film
Nah there’s two types of people: fans and not fans. People who like anime still enjoy shows made by fans instead of Hollywood shit made by an exec cashing in on an existing brand.

Netflix destroys everything they touch. Story ended completely different and I ended up hating every character. They were all so detached from the original that it really wasn’t at all the same. They obviously had to do something different from the anime otherwise it would still fall flat, but this was even worse. When was Faye ever outed as a lesbian?!?!
Original didnt needed sex at all, and in my opinion if reboot is ongoing you should leave things like this untouched becouse if you are like me you are here for action, outsmarting the oponent, twists and everything that isnt ordinary sexual. And it isnt childish, childish is wantingbto get this (booba) like you cant get a pair yourself
Another thing I hate about the live-action is they stopped the smoking. I get why but, it’s literally one thing that all of the characters do. It has worked its way into the anime and it just feels nostalgic.
Yeah, I literally lasted as long as he did too. It felt so disrespectful to the original didn’t capture a single thread of the original, happily scrubbed the live action from my mind.
LMAO I stopped at the first scene too 💀 They did this cast so damn dirty I hope I live to see another attempt at continuing/adapting Bebop We’ve had adaptations of Bebop tbh, Firefly being one of them
I was always told that in free market economy competition rewards success, but I just don't see it. Here's a guy who created one extremely successful work and he isn't allowed to create another successful work in favour of nobodies who ruin things time and time again. Why aren't they getting replaced by someone competent? Clearly something isn't working there.
While he was the director and a HUGE force behind cowboy bebop, let's not forget Keiko Nobumoto who wrote it. Rest in peace :( how dare they disgrace their work of art.
This is how I felt about the live action Alita Battle Angel. While a visual spectacle to be sure, the best I can hope from it is interest in the source material
It’s funny, when I saw it and yet the show runners said how much they loved cowboy bebop. I really was just like they must have watched it but entirely missed the point. Their Faye was an absolute demonstration of this 😂
This is why you let the creator take charge of their intellectual properties. The people at Netflix need to stop smoking that ish on the clock. They got lucky with One Piece
I feel like anybody who liked the live action show is either not a fan of anime or just scratching the surface of anime(sure, there's def huge anime fans that liked this). Cause I usually tend to rewatch Cowboy Bebop and generally enjoyed the whole thing, then the live action came out, and damn. Just damn.
Couldn't agree with him more. Netflix made a hollow, soulless recreation. The actors did what they could, but the Netflix writers and director should be ashamed.
I wasn’t mad at the Netflix adaptation cuz I went into it with no expectations, I honestly wanted to see where they were gonna go with it. cowboy bebop is one of my favorite anime’s and I need more of it, even if it’s a whole different universe at least it’s something similar, there’s no other anime that gives you the feeling cowboy bebop does and for Netflix to give you a glimpse of that feeling was enough for me.
@@cesnaanida9235Batman can have a million universe but who dares try to wonder off the original anime you love 🤦🏻♂️😂 bruh it’s was an adaptation, I don’t think you understand the meaning of adaptation “make (something) suitable for a new use or purpose; modify.”
@@FredoNavajas92 If you want an adaptation to succeed, the first rule is to respect the existing material. Understand its core themes and do best in applying that in the process of adapting. That's why only few adaptations succeeds. Examples of these are Sandman (comic to series) and The Silence of the Lamb (novel to movie), Dune books to movies) if you're familiar with these media. You can tell me I do not know about adaptations but Im pretty sure I know the opposite. So cry louder :)
@@cesnaanida9235no ones crying🤦🏻♂️ was it a master piece? No . was it a decent adaptation with potential? Yes. Y’all nerds are what ruin everything, ppl don’t wanna give anything a chance if it’s not exactly like the source. I used to be one of those ppl but to see any decent form of more cowboy bebop I was happy. Did I wish it was better? Yes. Do I wish the original creator had the final say in it? Yes. I want the same things you do, just didn’t think it was as bad as y’all made it to be. It was decent enough for kids to get into it and go look for the original and they could of explored that universe a lil more.
@@FredoNavajas92 it was bad. if you understood the core concept of Cowboy Bebop you know that this adaptation did not respect the original story. If the creators wanted to make a different story with the same setting they should have just made a different series actually inspired by Cowboy Bebop instead they created that mess of an adaptation If you dont see that ask & look for Shinichiro Watanabe's comment on the whole ordeal. We cannot dispute that the original director and creator of Bebop have a weight on the whole ordeal. Yeah?
To me it just felt like the writers of the show didn’t understood why the anime was a beloved classic. I wouldn’t be surprised if they at least watched the show but didn’t even bother to analyze it further. They just saw it once and said “DONE!” Really sad to see it end up like this.
I feel they tried to put all the main cowboy bebop events in the first season so the could explore the world further on the next and I’m upset it didn’t make it to season 2, we might of enjoyed new adventures now we will never know
They’re defenders out there that claim the live action show is good. But when you ask them, “Did you watch the original?” They will then respond with no. If they had watched the original, the tune would have been sung differently.
And this is why Oda sensei made DAMN sure he had a huge amount of creative input and veto ability wrote into the contract when one piece was optioned... And look at how excellently it worked out! The one piece adaptation pissed all over the cowboy bebop one.
The only live action adaptations i think have truly worked to any extent are ghost in the shell, the Rurouni kenshin series, and maybe Alita to a lesser extent. The speed racer movie was also enjoyable even if not completely relevant to the source material.
Strip away the Cowboy Bebop from the Netflix series and what you actually have as a pretty quirky, unique, oddly charming little show nestled firmly and comfortably in the lowest common denominator. It's crass, it's dirty, it isn't even heartless.
Always get it in your contract that you get creative control and final say. That way it ensures it’s something that you want to see and adheres to your original vision.
There’s no reason to try to recreate perfection. A sequel would make sense. A prequel would make sense. A spin off movie. But unless you have a massive budget do not attempt a remake.
Cowboy Bebop MAIN SKILL WAS THE MYSTIC 50s like background with elite lighting and very smooth jazz. They absolute ruined the greatest short anime ever created
I am so sorry to hear all this pissing back and forth. The original anime was brilliant, no question, but the Netflix "adaptation" was brilliant in it's own right. Too many trolls ruined any chance for season #2, what a damn shame.
feel the same about ghost in the shell. wtf was that live action movie about. fuck that movie and everything it stood for and i didnt even see it. thats how much respect i have for the original.
I thought it was decent how they put it together and put elements from three different episodes in one but the ending was definitely trash with Ed coming last second and I might be tripping but I don’t remember them beefing to never ever see each other again😂
