how did I miss this gem. this was beautiful,. the acting actually enhances it in my opinion. i think the director worked with the bad acting and made this fun. this was enjoyable.
Hilarious! Captured the CB spirit perfectly, and with The Seatbelts as backing how could it fail?? The live action CB starts tonight, and if it's half as much fun as this, it'll be a winner! No Dogs. No English. Brilliant!! Oh, and no French, Russians or Chinese either... 😆 🍄
After watching City of God, Pulp Fiction, Inherit Vice, Resivior Dogs, 7 Psychopaths, Kill Bill, American Hustle, and Gardians of the Galaxy especially,......I've come to believe that a live-action Cowboy Bebop movie, a good one, is possible.
Yeah, I really wish Rian Johnson would direct that, hes a really big fan of Bebop, and Brick with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and I think Levitt would be a great fucking Spike.
This is GREAT for the budget I imagine Watanabe had. It definitely has a hit of the series' feel. If there is a live action movie, Watanabe should direct it, maybe co-direct it. If he had a Hollywood budget, I think he could do the series some justice. How can he just hand it over for someone else to do, he should at least overlook the project as Producer. I mean all the above for a Hollywood live action, I know he speaks Japanese, but there are translators and plenty of ways to get the film his way!
We so need this to be a full length movie already. Watanabe-San..Please!! and bring The Seatbelts along for the whole movie! This was so awesome. (Since the origin characters and their antics have become a much beloved cult classic storyline wise; Seeing random characters on another planet on another job, As in above was just so satisfying)
This is just awesome! I loved how the silhouettes of the three characters when they entered the bar were so reminiscent of the crew we all love. And great song as always. PS: Also, Spiegel Spirits!
This is great! I love the theme and acting, it fits the whole style of the story and character wise. I didn't really expect the original characters but these ones actually did a dang good job haha
RENGI of the last character is an actor in Japan. "Cowboybebop heaven's door" is a model of a convenience store burglar RENGI. In the Japanese version he is a voice actor.
this is the translation of the Japanese subs, the spoken languages are slightly different in some cases. Bartender: Hey, you listening? Bartender: I won't wait a day more. Bartender: Today's the last. Bartender: If you still don't pay up your debt... [[Afro: Shit, I've been searching like crazy for this place. Afro: What's the deal with this shop? Afro: I can't fucking comprehend this.]] x2! Afro: Fucking Bloody Eye (eye medicine). Afro: You have it? Bartender: This isn't a drug store. Bartender: Who told you to come here? Bartender: Get lost! Lady: What an old fashioned place. Lady: This shop is really crazily... Lady: Do you have Bloody Eye? Afro: Oi, oi, there's no way I'll let this thieving bitch take my share. Afro: Thats MY fucking Bloody Eye bitch. Big Boss: You sell Bloody Eye here... right? Bartender: You're the one who leaked the news? Bartender: Renji!
Well I enjoyed it. Obviously rough, very very rough, but it seems to have a smooth flow of story. Granted the music definitely carries the mood of the scene, rather than the actor. Still I've watched it 3 times and I still love how the whole thing crescendos a at the end.
It's called "Cowboy Bebop" but OBVIOUSLY the characters of this short are NOT supposed to be a live transposition of the Bebop crew. Please guys. Please. And actually it would have been worse if Watanabe had really used the crew because you would have been even more disappointed (impossible to match live action and anime). It's actually pretty good and I'm surprised Watanabe is such a good live action movie director. The bar, the situation, the characters, the gags, the music, everything is really relevent of the Bebop universe. And actually I'm really glad that Watanabe decided to create another thing about Cowboy Bebop, it shows that he still loves it and that he hasn't really finished to say what he has to say about it. And that makes me reaaally glad.
I'll cut Watanabe some slack here in that he's probably not use to doing live action but yeah this definitely isn't up there with his other work. I think if someone showed him what works in animation and not in live action, he could do a good live action piece because the short is well edited and shot, it's just that the acting isn't very good
one of those things that doesn't work well in a live action setting is establishing a personality onto a character using exaggerated body language. for example 0:57 something that works well in animation and something shinichiro loves doing lol.
THEVASART I agree, in something like Samurai Champloo, that works. Not in live action. But even then directing animation and directing real people are two completely different animals. In animation you don't have to worry about the characters getting the right expressions because you're designing all that already, actors different story
I enjoyed this overall. The beginning was a bit weird and some of the acting is way too over the top, which is understandable seeing how an animation director directed this and he seems to be used to exaggerated body language showing a character. If there was a bit more subtlety leading up to the big shootout then I think it would've been a bit better. But as it is it's enjoyable, I love the writing and the humor. That last line kills me btw, great punch line to the whole thing. Great job Mr. Watanabe!
dude they were suppose to mimic the characters while at the same time being different characters. it's a glimpse at their world not the bebop crew and the characters, although different, are meant to pay homage to the bebop crew. It's the look and style of bebop. I want to see them actually do one WITH some spaceships in a few scenes, but with two brand new original characters all taking place in the Cowboy Bebop world and have cameos of Jet and Faye or even Spike. I'd donate to help them.
This is just evidence that every fictional character can be any color/race as long as its done well. Wouldn't mind having black spike. Also, 1,000 x better than the live action. And this shit was so funny to watch too.
Not what I was expecting. Are they suppose to resemble Bebop characters? I guess she's kind of like Faye. I thought maybe the short would be close to what got in Cowboy Bebop
That (in my opinion) was TERRIBLE. some might argue the sillouetts looked like bebop's crew but I saw no resemblence. This ticked me off even more on how that guy that shared a spike sillouette looked more like a poor man's modern day mugen frim samurai champloo.
I see where that flat, cartoonish style from the Netflix series came from. Watanabe is a marvel as animator. But as a live action director he has a long way to go. I read messages that deify Shinichiro ... But no, this feels lazy, apparently this was the reference for the Netflix series.
Accidently I found this. If he used the "Kitano blue", it's gonna be more bluesy. Actually, this short film sucks, although I was surprised at Renjy appeared eventually. Rina Ohta as Faye would be nice, but I wanna see Keanu Reeves as Spike.
no. the netflix version was trash. this looks like free trash. im sorry. story, so boring. the no "x" language gag was funny for a second. the rest was trash acting on a boring script.
The bartender/seller is supposed to ask for bloody maries. If the buyers respond with, "I only got beer," the bartender/seller should respond with, "I got tomato juice." These guys got the process wrong, it's no wonder they all died. Amateurs.
it's not taking itself seriously, these aren't the Cowboy Bebop characters, this short film is gold and ya'll know nothing for those that commented dumb sh--t
Dreadful. I can't beleive this is real film footage. Gotta be someone messing around. Is that Jamaican dude supposed to be the live action equiv of Spike? Sheesh. I thought his friggin silhouette at the beginning was Ronald Macdonald. Spike never talks that much, or that animatedly.
Huge props to Kanno for hiring an actual Beijinger for the bartender, that accent just works so well for the role and puts a smile on me every time I watch this😬
Rina Ohta and Renji Ishibashi are the only real actors in this, the others being musicians - but the spirt is BANG-ON with Cowboy Bebop. It's a more raw, realistic version of Cowboy Bebop.
Yeah... It's like the actor tried to imitate the way Spike walks, but ended up walking like Mugen... Which is ironic, since they were both produced by the same company...
I just liked the music ;) Should release a movie about the anime is sensational. Once I learned that Keanu Reeves was involved in the idea of an adaptation. It would be interesting. Да, конечно, я не говорю на русском ;)
