@@mightykaz7686 Not quite. He was just masking the fact he was equally matched by appearing emotionally uninvested. Electra was avoiding or blocking his blows as much as he was avoiding hers. Also when she broke the broom, which he used to control spacing it was getting even more even.
@@eindalton2638 Lol what are you yapping about. They were not equally matched, he wasn't even attacking her he only defended himself. He didn't care at all about fighting her and she still couldn't do anything to him 😂
@@RacingSnails64 she probs had to fake being helpless so the security guards wouldn't get suspicious of her. that's why she fell on her ass and let the guards run ahead
One of the things I like most about this is that unlike a lot of anime protagonists, Spike is making it up as he goes along. He doesn't have some mega-advanced nuclear psychotic 115-step plan to make it through security and get the whatever. He just like. shows up in a janitor's uniform, gets caught by the first person he sees, and then has to improvise from there. It's very in keeping with the spirit of the show.
moniker127 I know. I've seen videos of what they're capable of. If they're very highly trained they can drop a guy to the ground and probably kill him in about 10 seconds if they want.
I think Spike's VA was phenomenal. The way he giggles when he pokes or trips up the lady really sells this fight and his personality. Its refreshing to see a fight thats not entirely anime grunts and cliche dialogue.
okay but props to the animators holy shit…. the detail put into the fluid and swift motions of spike and electras movements are fucking amazing. i truly feel like this is one of the best anime fight scenes, which just goes to show that you dont need flashy lights, powers or characters to make a good fight scene. just smooth animation.
Blum is my all time favorite but even I will admit that the general quality of voice acting has slowly gone UP over time since the 90s, definitely not down... Yes, it's been a slow climb with many crappy voices in-between, but when you look at the state of voice acting now with Last of Us, Uncharted 4, Bioshock Infinite, etc... Steve Blum is still amazing but other talents are slowly catching up and becoming more widespread. I feel like these days my odds of running into shitty voice acting have lowered to around 50% whereas back in 1998 my odds of running into crappy English voice acting was more like 75-85% chance, if you get me... and hell, even the 3 games I listed don't star Steve Blum as the main character, but he still appeared in ALL 3 as background voices/characters still. The man's still the king for me personally but I don't think the general state of voice acting has gone down since back in the day, more like quite the opposite though we still have a long way to go...
Steve has said that CB was like a stepping stone for him. ''Spike changed everything,'' as he has said regarding his career. He got multiple opportunities in voice work because of this show and it meant a lot to him. He met Mary, voice of Julia, who was in charge of the dubbing process, and they are now dating. He got the sound wave of Spike's last word in the series, ''Bang'' tattooed on his left arm and always signs off of interviews with that word. Also, he has a few Spike pictures in frames in his home office.
For all those complaining about Spike cleaning the wall by sweeping it, It’s actually a quick technique for dusting high lettering plaques from actual Janitors. When you're doing a quick clean through a hallway and a ladder isn't available or necessary, a quick few swipes of your broom dusts the letters just as effectively. Otherwise you get dust build up on top of the names/locations and that doesn't look good for the building's sanitation.
@@TheVoidedRealm hard to find a person who can voice that symbolism. Literally the backbone of this masterpiece is that unaired story arc The best kind of narrative Do you live in a dream?
"Y'know, when I left the house today, I was thinking 'Damn, I really hope some hot chick paints my brains all over some fucking hallway.' And here we are." -This Guy, in the Gianni Matragrano Cinematic Universe
That truck driver at the end probably has PTSD now "I don't know about this job anymore, man. I mean one moment I'm just delivering cargo like always, and the next thing I know - BAM! - I got 30 clips of lead up my ass "
Steps on how to sneak into an enemy territory: 1) Dress up as enemy so they'll think you're one of them. 2) When entering their territory, simply tip your hat and say, "Yo!" and they'll let you right in; no ID needed. 3) ???? 4) If you get caught, run like hell.
There's so much warmth and fluidity inherent in expertly crafted two-dimensional animation. I have yet to encounter a CGI cartoon/film that can match Cowboy Bebop: Knocking on Heaven's Door, Akira, Princess Mononoke, etc.
Spike always move with a purpose. He is not just a great marshal artist, but a detective (modeled after the famous Japanese actor who played the Japanese detective) and a slight-of-hand pickpocket/magician! Even that coin had a purpose. SPOILER: It was a transmitter!
@@lupinsredjacket3191 Funny thing, apparently a while back they announced a live action Cowboy Bebop, there were rumors about Keanu Reeves being cast as Spike Spiegel.
We are around. You'll find us wandering about, taking things as they come and trying to figure out if this life is a dream. Surviving day to day, waiting to see if we really are alive. See you around, Space Cowgirl. Somewhere. Someday.
The joy on his face. When it’s one-on-one, and he knows he’s met his match, life finally makes sense. It’s the most real Spike can get, and he will accept no substitutes.
He disarmed her immediately, gave her a couple of love taps with the broom handle, was smiling and obviously playful, and she never got a hit on him. She was no where near his match.
Steve Blum has that kinda voice that’s impossible not too recognize when you hear it. Spike, Wolverine, Tank Dempsey, Starscream, Sub-Zero, The dude is absolutely phenomenal at voice acting.
This show? It's from the Cowbop Bebop movie, not the show part. Animation quality tends to be better on movies/standalone releases versus weekly anime. But yea, the show had great animation too even considering that... but this isn't the show, which was my point, lol.
In fact the show did have good animation, although this isn't the show per se, it is the movie - but the show also had good animation. This isn't the show, however. This clip is from the movie. Don't get me wrong, the show also had good animation. But this is the movie not the show - although the show had good animation too.
ShasOFish Steven Blum makes his voice much more gravelly when he does Grunt, I think. This sounds exactly like the voice Jennifer Hale uses in Mass Effect, especially in the Renegade dialogue options.
You could say many match-ups like Guilemon/Grunt/Wolverine/Zabuza Momochi vs FemShep/MvC3 Phoenix/ Injustice Hawkgirl or Killer Frost. That's only a few of the many roles they've done.
Alan Falleur Ahh okay. Still, it's so amazing to see how many characters these two have done, yet Spike and Electra are two of my favorites they voiced.
She warns him by cocking the gun rather than just killing him. He doesn't need the warning; he'd already snapped the broom up. She turns towards the incoming guards, he warns her by telegraphing the strike with the broom. He sprays down the guards, but chooses just to run from her; trusting she won't shoot towards bystanders. Epic show don't tell. Tells us who they are, that they both understand both each other's ethics and the lesser restraint of the guards.
My favourite part is Electra's kick at 1:29. Spike was lucky to dodge that. He would have been knocked out cold otherwise. A pity she never featured in the series. She's much more badass than Faye.
It's hard for me to watch this scene without a smile, cause both VAs of this fight scene voice two of my favorite characters in the video game Mass Effect: Jennifer Hale (Female Commander Shepard) and Steve Blum (Urdnot Grunt).
+Valkayre If you like mecha, give the new Gundam series, Iron-Blooded Orphans a shot. Streaming on Daisuki and Gundaminfo for free. It's pretty brutal (in a good way).
Spike really knows how to catch the eyes of a lady. I really enjoy his nonchalant way of fighting which seems effortless to him but he really is doing some very complex movements throughout his scenes where he is in close combat
Notice right before the iconic line Spike's eyes perk up a bit. He is genuinely turned on by a "woman who can kick his..." You know the rest. Also, shout out for showing that level of detail in this interaction.
One of the greatest anime fights of all time. It doesn’t have to be Goku vs Jiren to be epic and Cowboy Bebop is proof of that. The art is absolutely amazing, the fights are so different then most shows and flow of combat feels like you’re actually watching two people fist fight. Can’t see stuff like this anywhere else
Spike spiegal is that type of character we rarely get to see now a days. A chill man with a dark past, who takes no bs from any woman, and is willing to fight said woman, and win.
just finished watching the movie version and the feeling it gives me is different from all current anime, the graphics, the music with the extremely engaging narration and the characters' stories drew me in. Why are movie versions of today not as good as an anime version in the 80s?
