Good for you for doing what Nessmuk encouraged...get out and do it; be an "Outer"! Since the 1960's 😲 he's been one of my guides, too. Even here on the ranch. My wife's suggestion was to not attempt too many new things all at once. Pick one thing, food cooking/brewing, shelter, bedding, etc., and try to improve that. Move on from there. Cowboy bedroll is called a "soogan" and is quite similar to what you've got started. Black tea is not cowboy coffee so don't brew it the same. Put the loose tea in a cheesecloth "sachet" and steep it in the individual cup. Old cowboy saying: he who leaves his food out won't eat bread in the morning! 😊 Good luck and keep up the effort and good work. As always, like your clothes.

About tea- my favorite way is to use a metal container with holes and a little chain attached. It's basicaly a reusable teabag. As far as I know, it should be historicaly accurate for 19th century, but better check is it's true.

Now that you mention it I should check into that. I do have one of those.

I really appreciate that you use all natural stuff and find out how to do things the old ways. So may outdoor people are practically addicted to nylon, polyester, plastic, blow up mats, etc. But the way you do things is different. I hope one day I could figure it out, I struggle because I don’t have land and so cant have a horse. Ive been unemployed for a while and struggling. But one day I will have the resources to try it out the way you do.

I can not say whether George Washington Sears (Nessmuk) would have been proud of you, but I can say that he would be happy for you due to the journey you are currently undertaking - and where you are on that journey. Sears is one of my personal favourite writers - and his philosophy regarding what Nature is and what man is (and could/should be) in that regard, has always served as a great inspiration for me. Maria enjoyed your video as well - and says that your bread maybe did not rise bacause your water was too hot. Personally I think it could also have to do with the acidity of the tea water.

That’s awesome you’re so familiar with him and yes, that’s a good way of putting it- he’d be happy or proud of the journey I’m on. I’ll have to try the sodium bicarbonate again. I just might this morning.

I use lamp wick to make char cloth, it's been around since around 2300BC so it would've likely been available at that time , and now days it's really cheap, in bulk on Amazon 12 foot of it is like $7,, it works excelent. and 12 foot will make about 200 fires, Love the series too by the way,,

If I missed it forgive me. I add a bit of acid to my liquid to get the baking soda to rise bread. A shot of vinegar, or making with keifer or clabber. A sourdough liquid with flour and baking soda sifted in will react and rise as well. Thank you very much for the link to the book.

Another fine video Richard, that saying you read at the beginning of the video. I really liked, pretty much covered my reasons for going camping. Other then when I camp a mile or two in the woods to save me some walking before daylight when I’m hunting a few miles from any road. Wishing you and your crew the best from me and mine. 👍🎥🥇🥇🥇🦾

@@OverOnTheWildSide not in couple of weeks, had sick animals on the farm to deal with and got my lawnmowers torn for a good go tru before mowing season. Got a trip planned next weekend to hunt shed horns and hunt coyotes for two days. Thanks brother, have a great weekend. 💯👍

@@OverOnTheWildSide I hope so, I still use mouth calls only. Plus have to use a rim fire pistol with less then 6 inch barrel on public when there is no big game season open. So it’s hard to get them in close enough to get many. But I sure enjoy trying it. Me and my little revolver have only taken 6 in 5 years, but it’s just feels good to get one that close and get the job done. Got to invest in one of them electric calls one day. They are just so expensive just to use for coyotes that it’s hard for me to get one. Mouth calls and mouse squeaks are old school predator hunting these days. Thanks again bud, 👍

George Washington Sears ( "Nessmuk" ) is an old favorite of mine. Horace Kephart is another great "Outer" Author; I recommend his "Camping and Woodcraft", Univ. of Tennessee Press, 1988. It's a great little hardcover edition! I got a kick out of you taking the "kids" camping! I would worry about them getting into the chow.
@OverOnTheWildSide
@OverOnTheWildSide 2 года назад
Yeah they get into things but I live with them quite a bit at home too so they fit into the pack pretty well. Thanks for the Kephart recommendation, I’ll look up his as well.

@@OverOnTheWildSide yeah! Could be worse for sure. I've got this allergic/autoimmune condition that makes my immune system attack my esophagus if I eat anything containing milk proteins. No milk, butter, cheese, chocolate, or most baked goods for me T.T I just found out this year.
@OverOnTheWildSide
@OverOnTheWildSide 2 года назад
Badly? I get something like that from some fruits. Fortunately it wasn’t like peanut allergy people but I stopped and don’t know if it’s worse now or not.
@K0GNITION
@K0GNITION 2 года назад
@@OverOnTheWildSide yeah its worse then your typical itchy throat histamine/igE response. In my case my immune system recognizes the milk proteins as a threat and sends white blood cells. The inflammation in my esophagus leads to scarring over time and can actually start causing severe swallowing issues. There are people with my condition who can't figure out what proteins are causing the reaction and even some that end up with such severe swallowing issues that they need a feeding tube.. really awful, but I'm doing well enough now that I don't need daily meds and feel pretty normal as long as I don't eat dairy.
