Looking forward to watching your camping videos. I also, do period camping during the summer on my property. I constructed a lean-to / trapper style shelter, in the early 19th century fashion.

Great job brother! I dig the saddle! I took had a 45+ lb rig on my horse, I felt guilty every time I put it on her. Then sit my fat truck driver a$$ in it! Fit and trim now. Chomp'n at the bit for spring. Funny " my life is camping"!

Been experimenting using oil based "Spar Urethane" to waterproof cotton canvas, works great but expensive $60/gallon, cotton soaks it up, drys, then seals so water won't penetrate the fibers, still flexible. You can use latex paint over the canvas but latex won't waterproof it, has to be sealed first. The only glue I found that will work on canvas is "JB WELD" 2 part, put a very thin coat on both pieces than press together overnight, as long as it is a thin layer, you can still roll up canvas.

I always like to see what folks take when they go out; there's generally some overlap, but often there's an item that I hadn't thought of, and I have an "Ah HA!" moment! I recently picked up a folding saw at work; and, while I haven't taken it out yet, I played with it outside, and it's looking like it'll be really handy! I also picked up a "Mountain Man 'Mouse-Hawk'" for a belt hatchet, and it really took an edge well, especially after stropping it. I keep thinking that You should look for an A. Uberti "Remington New Model Army Cartridge Conversion" Replica Revolver for your 1860s Persona, either in .45 Colt's or .44WCF ( what I have ). I recall seeing a photo of an original "Gunsmith Conversion" in .45 Colt's, although more authentic would be .44 Remington CF. I got the .44WCF ( not authentic ) for cartridge commonality with my A. Uberti Henry Rifle. I've seen these replica revolvers as low as $499, second hand. Just a thought. Have Fun! MTM

When it comes to keeping the animals comfortable and safe, I don’t feel like you are in any way being inauthentic to the goal of “period appropriate” gear with a modern saddle pad etc… just like the camera gear doesn’t count. Really looking forward to seeing the tarp setups.

You could use your other tarps as “Fly’s” over your canvas tent structure to assist in weather issues. There is hundred’s of historical photos of this set-up. God bless!

I use painter drops for camping set ups it seems to work well i used them all winter so far no waterproof yet lol Oh i have been damp a few times my foam pad has kept me a flote in the bad rain ,ya real type 2 fun this is ,thank you for sharing,

Ive always been interested in the hope/texas saddles. Ive ridden alot in McClellans(reenacting) and modern(wrangling/training) but never tried a hope style. Trying to track down 2 trees to make a hope and a 1870s style

That’s a nice set up man, over the years I’ve ditched alot of stuff and came to my “minimal gear” but it’s still heavy to carry lol at 40-60lbs, 60 lbs and up are “winter time tho “, clothes and blankets always add up, any more I mostly try to just wear the same stuff out in the bush, maybe a extra set for a longer trip, definitely extra socks and underwear if nothing else of course lol, ya just a pot/pan and i have the same coffee pot lol, well mines ceramic covered, is yours tin? I’m longing to get out lol, I’ve been getting out just not staying out lol, good luck man, happy trails, everything is coming back to life
