One would think an arena of this size, scope, and prominence would already have an arrest system in place.

One system won't work for every situation. Also riggers want to depend on THEIR system and work not someone else's.

Wow this guy had to get some serious BIG bucks for doing this at 200 feet in the air. I know regular arenas don’t have as high of a roof as a retractable roof football stadium here.
@monmixer

once you are past 30 feet you probably won't survive the fall unless you are awful lucky and even at 30 expect a minimum of life long serious issues if you do survive.

@@bratwurstbernd1129 That is not the problem. Most of these people are indeed tied off and if they fall it will not be far. The problem is the harness will cut off your circulation if you are hanging in it for to long. Depending on how long the person can keep pressure of the arteries in their legs. Eventually they won't be able to at all and they will fall asleep forever if there is no quick way to get them down or back on the steel. some places are extremely safe and even have inertia reels over every rigger. the reel will slowly drop them to the floor.
@Apollo55_

So, question: you are risking your life. At the same time, you make life safe for many. How much is your hourly pay? I'm guessing it shouldn't be less than 75-80 bucks an hour. Particularly, because you are responsible also for the good working order and maintenance of all your ropes (I'm assuming that's your own equipment, since this would be the only way you could trust it 100% because that's the only way to know how many hours of work and how rough has the life of a particular rope been, in order to retire it when it needs to be). Meaning, you need to spend lots of money in equipment.

Na mate that could have been done a lot safer with a pull through to start with. Using tape slings instead of what look like short lifting strops, aid climbing properly allowing him to go away from being on a belay system and self managing. That's not pro. It would be interesting to see the rescue plan as if he fell swung into structure became uncontious and had to be lowered is there enough line in the coil to get him to the ground or will you be trying to pass knots through those crabs
