Wait, did I just read that? well yes; yes you did..... A Coyote swapped 67 Firebird is not the A typical combination when you are walking your local cruise night or the staging lanes at the dragstrip. In fact, most would call this sacrilegious in nature and ask the builder to be condemned to some sort of punishment for the rest of his automotive days. Well, Josh Godinez does not care to appease the purist nor does he look to gain approval from them. the Firebird was his mothers first car and stayed in the family long enough to eventually become his own first car. As time went on the Firebird got all the regular performance upgrades to the 400ci v8. Bigs and littles were part of the equation too. As time went on, the bird got tired and the engine failed leaving Josh with a car that needed a lot to come back to life. Not one to restore it, he opted to concentrate on the chassis, performance, and safety. Being a fan of technology, he also focused on a 5.0L Coyote.
Josh Tells us that the 67 was down for the count a few years back and that is when he decided to start the rebuild and re-power of the Bondobird. When completed all of the suspension, brake system, steering, and drivetrain had been replaced. He used components from TBM(Brake Man), TRZ, Calvert, and Viking to update things under the car. When it came to the powerplant he chose a Gen 2 5.0L Coyote and an MT-82 transmission. We asked him why and he responded with "I just love modern technology and this engine has it" WE AGREE! A Ford Performance Gen 2 control pack was installed to control the engine with a stock pcm which is tuned by Rob Shoemaker, A 1320 Junkie ported Boss intake was installed to increase performance, Kooks headers, TSS OPG/CS, and 3" custom exhaust all helped the coyote make 468rwhp and 400rwtq. Josh even used a few PBH Performance Coyote swap Products to make the swap happen; A PBH Alternator relocation kit, heater bypass, and water neck bleeder were all installed.
There is no end result to report, the Bondobird is and will always be a work in progress just like many of our project cars. Will it painted and perfected one day, perhaps, but there are no plans for it. For now, Josh is working out some issues and taking the car to the track to see what he can get out of it with this setup. Being a member of the Whipple Superchargers team, we can only imagine what might end up on this 67 Firebird down the road. For now we sit back and applaud another customer on completing a build and enjoying it.
