This is part II of my Coyote Tan effectiveness video. In part I we tested the colors effectiveness in a fall/winter woodland environment when the prominent color was tan and brown. Now we are in the middle of summer and the prominent color is green and brown. This video consist of several scenes with and without the use of vegetation to demonstrate if the pattern effectively blends into the environment.

As a solid color, this seems to work better than OD green, which is not surprising . Deer ,wolves, other woodland animals are all various shades of brown and tan, not green.

That's because hair doesn't come in that color. A lot of animals like reptiles, amphibians, and fish developed green as camouflage.

You do know that most animals don’t see the color spectrum humans do... and green mammals don’t exist. OD isn’t straight green. It’s a Neutral / Green blend. Humans see *_green_* very well. It’s a stark contrast. When humans are _”Color Blind”_ it’s overwhelmingly the inability to see green. If you _can’t_ see green, then it will be very difficult to distinguish anything contrasted against it. That’s why being color blind _(not able to see greens)_ usually means visual acuity problems. That’s why OD isn’t green, and it’s not neutral. A neutral will stand out against a green background, and green will stand out against a neutral background.

Coyote tan is hard to beat. It reflects the surrounding colors better than any other color I've seen. With a few leaves or twigs to beak up the outline, it would be almost undetectable. Coyote tan seems to be the best base color for any camo used in a woodland environment.

If someone were to design a dichromatic pattern with Coyote Tan & OD green as the only two colors, basing it off of the Yugo M68 pattern, it would create a crude, but highly affordable and efficient pattern to arm the working class with.

Thank you for posting this! I have two coyote tan packs. One that I use for a first-aid kit and the second, I bought for bush-craft/camping trips. I’m not in the military. But, I like the military style packs due to the space and durability. It’s neat knowing how well it works in the bush as well as desert/beach locations. I might just stick with that cammo if I buy more stuff. Clothing and other stuff I can use for bush-craft outings.

Not bad. In the first several shoots it seemed effective. The last several shots in the heavy greens, it was "fairly easy" to spot you if your looking. This comes from someone with untrained skills in detection. Thanks for doing the shoot. A request, I'd like to see the A-TACS using in mixed pairs of AU and FG to see the effectiveness of using both together in certain situations. Example: A-TACS AU shirt with FG paints. Thanks again!

Thanks for posting, I have really been looking forward to this one. Coyote tan was pretty effective at a distance and that's were it really counts but to be honest if I were fighting in a lush green environment and I had to choose between CT and OD I would definitely go with OD.
@Brent0331
@Brent0331 10 лет назад
Yeah, for this I would go with OD as well. I think the thing to note though is it did a fairly good job. So it kicked ass in the fall/winter and was pretty good during the spring/summer. OD wouldn't preform as well in the fall/winter so I think the Marine Corps made a good choice in using this color for its flacks/gear.

I feel like even though the forest has alot of green, it's mostly up high. Tan works so great for animals and humans because they are lower to the ground. Where dirt, dead grass, tree trunks, and fallen leaves are. A lot if brown colors. This tan seemed much more effective than green camos. it's also a lighter color Wich would naturally reflect more light, but not to the point of drawing attention to the eye. Glad I saw this before buying OD everything lol

In many cases in this video and the last, I was able to tell where you were, just not confirm what you were (that rock/clump of plant material looks off...I guess I will watch to be sure...) In most cases where foliage broke up the outline, or you hid in shadows, I could not see you at all until you moved. The size of a human is a dead give away with our lanky hanging arms, as are the sharp angles of the chin and cheeks, brim of the hat, and collar. Good use of local foliage on gear and hat and I think Coyote Tan might be the perfect solid color! Be the log!!! I wonder how well a mesh cloak in this color would perform?

@Brent0331
@Brent0331 9 лет назад
That might be something to think about during this time of the year. Right now the grass in most of the woods I film this in are turning tan while the leaves on the trees and bushes are still green. CT trousers with an OD jacket would probably be pretty good combo particularly if you're going to be on the move and your primarily going to be either standing or taking a knee.

Very effective! However, I would recommend sewing on some tan colored bungees along the arms, legs, and cap. So that you could stuff some foliage onto the uniform. That will help break up your outline. During this test. I was able to spot you via your outline. As an added bonus. That uniform would be effective against night vision. Thermal don’t know.

I know I've probably mentioned this on another video, but have you considered doing a video on SADF nutria brown? You can find them on ebay right now and they're generally fairly cheap. Check out the seller OldRepublicEnterprises. They usually have a bunch of those for sale.

albmartinez314 I've gotta tighten the belt on purchasing patterns right now. I probably won't be doing that uniform anytime soon if at all. I only tell you this because I don't want to give you false hope that I'll one day feature the uniform in video.
