This is PART II of my effectiveness test of Swiss Leibermuster aka "Alpenflage" in a woodland environment. In PART I, I tested the pattern in the late winter where most of the vegetation was dead and the predominant color was brown and tan. In this video we look at the patterns potential in the spring &summer when the environment is heavily vegetated. This video includes scenes that show the patterns use when both concealed with and without the use of vegetation in the environment, as well as what the pattern looks like moving and stationary. Hopefully by watching this video you can get a grasp on whether or not the pattern effectively blends into this type of environment.

I'm surprised and impressed at how effective alpenflage is in non-swiss terrain. When looking at it up close you'd think it would not be effective in a bright green environment but it is, great job man keep up the good work.

I like how you always use the correct (or as correct as possible) weapons and gear for the pattern. To preserve historical and scientific accuracy. Very thorough.

Alpenflage did fairly well, it especially excelles at greater ranges and it's apparently multiseasonal and just like in part 1 the red completely disappears at a distance. I love you're series you have the best camo test videos on the net and as always keep up the good work and keep 'em coming.
@Brent0331

Yeah, crazy how the red disappears. It really does seem to be a multi-environment pattern, I would have never thought it had it not been for me getting out and doing these videos.

Wow, I have a lot of experience with this camo and I knew it was good, but I am absolutely blown away by this. I just thought it worked well with leave clutter and ground clutter, but it turns out that it also blends nicely with trees and foliage. Wow. This really is the best camo pattern I have ever used.

works well ... especially in the shadows, the way the red appears as brown at a distance is cool effect

Maybe it's because our eyes tend to see red pretty poorly, so it'll default to another color that is similar.

Hi. Great vid. Just bought a load of Alpanflage for wild camping, here in the UK. I would say it’s not as good as our DPM, but better, in the Autumn. All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧😊

@@soggz4246 i've used a parka (sometimes mistitled as a sniper smock) and the poncho wild camping in Wales, its great in leaf litter and in heather/moorland ... but DPM is king in temperate europe, (in MoD testing only flecktarn could equal it) .... next time your out hang a piece of alpanflage in a tree and walk away, checking it at different distances.

Great video. The swiss alpenflage system was truly ahead of its time. The complete outfit included a jacket and bib overalls. Many have wrongly concluded that this was for paratroopers or winter gear. The swiss used this all year round. The system allowed the soldier to carry all his gear without a rucksack while distributing the weight evenly across his body. The red in the camouflage blends in excellent with the red clay ground in Switzerland. That being said it works well in any part of the country that has reddish clay. Every part of the swiss system was well thought out and the quality is top notch. Many have written this camouflage off but that is because they dont understand how it works as a whole.

Today a went into the woods to test it with my friends(I live in czech republic, sl that was pretty typical central european forest) and I told them not to look until I lay down somewhere and they didn't find me until I stood up, even though they were looking right at me, this camo is really effective, it's now my third favourite 2d camo

Awesome pattern Brent0331! More effective in the first video for autumn season. In the Spanish Armed Forces there were similar patterns (maybe of German influence) called M59, it was a reversible camouflage uniform (Green and Brown). After, improve model M61 pattern was used by elite troops: paratroopers, Legión, EZAPAC, and COE. Also known "camuflaje rocoso" or "amoeba", highly apreciatted by collectors.

Great videos, thanks for all the work done! Actually you can find this type of surroundings in the swiss low lands, and small river beds are about identical. Higher altitude woods are less cluttered with small vegetation and above a certain altitude tree species switch to pines so you have longer visual distances and darker backdrops. Woods are no redder in the alps, but indeed Alpenflage was surprisingly effective in breaking shapes, specially at short/mid ranges (10-30m). The dark red color might not be too much of an issue as over distance colours merge and you get an average shade of a tone, and red being in the lower-energy zone of the visual spectre it quits first. BTW there is little chance you will get hold on a original TAZ90 (even here in CH you only find imitations): when swiss government saw Alpenflage all around the TV news during the Balkan wars of the 90's they decided all aging TAZ90 would be incinerated rather than sold as surplus :(

Just found your channel. *great stuff dude* Seems like the Alpenflage is a very region specific camo. There was a guy on your previous video's comments talking about "Infrared Holes" as an explanation but it doesn't seem convincing. Anyways, cool channel.
@claudyfocan731
@claudyfocan731 5 лет назад
it does work, the German research department developed it as the first universal camouflage for both Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS units. It was issued in limited quantity in 1945. The red and black splotches serve to conceal against first gen. Primitive infrared equipment. The Germans developed this kind of gear for use by infantrymen (Nachtjäger) and vehicles like the Panther V tank. They decided that as they had this gear the enemy would, upon capture of some equipment develop their own. So they designed a camo pattern to conceal against it. The swiss modified it and used it themselves. I have 83 uniform jacket that I wear daily as a lightweight summer jacket, The camo looks funky and gets lots of comments of people who ask about the story of red in a camo pattern and where I found it :)

Thanks for your input, each scene is at different distances ranging from about 20m - 50m so you get an idea of how the pattern looks near and farther from the camera. Most military camouflage patterns are designed to be effective at 100+ meters, it would be pointless for me to film that far away though.
@danmorgan3685
@danmorgan3685 10 лет назад
***** 100 meters REALLY?!?! I'm quit surprised by that. At such distances solid colors like olive drab would work pretty well. Can you think of any patterns that are designed with that 100 meter range in mind? Better still where could I find such information for myself?
@Brent0331
@Brent0331 10 лет назад
Dan Morgan Here's some information from the Hyperstealth website talking about CADPAT as opposed to a solid OD color. "Canada wore Olive Drab fatigues up until the late 1990’s when their military research showed that there is a 45 percent less chance of being detected from 50-300 meters away with their new CADPAT (Canadian Disruptive Pattern). They also found that the enemy had to be 35% closer to a soldier wearing CADPAT to detect him/her over the soldier wearing a Monotone (Olive Drab) Uniform." www.hyperstealth.com/camo-improvement/
