Thanks for the enjoyable episode. I, too, enjoy knitting and reading. My most often knitted projects are socks. I drive a lot to visit my 98-year old father who lives a 3 hour drive from where I live. By the time I go back and forth every four or five days, I’m afraid I don’t have the mental capacity, or the energy, to read much other than cozy mysteries and knit much other than socks. Until the next time. Salam wa sa’aadah
I read and knit so I’m obviously getting a “two for one”😂. I love hearing what others are reading. If anyone doesn’t enjoy the books section, they can always stop after the knitting segment.
Soooo enjoy listening to your podcast to see your projects and your yarn that you dye!! LOL when you described the thoughtful train culture in Japan, WOW come to NYC with huge train projects and get your long needles out and knit away!! Thanks and enjoy your family!!
Mel I would love for you to have more book centric content on this page! I like hearing your mini-reviews and put a few of these books on hold at my library
I really liked the reading section at the end! I think it’s a really nice way to discover new books ☺️ I’ve never read a graphic novel but I reeeeally want to read the one you mentioned!
I like the reading bit! Just finished The Mercies and it was fantastic; now reading Pachinko. Oh and I was stitching away on my Inclinations Shawl while watching. Thanks, Melanie!
Trying to catch up on some knitting podcasts. And I enjoyed watching yours ❤ The reading part I see as a bonus, noted down severeal of the 17 books you've read in January! The book that touched, moved and stuned me the most lately was 'The Binding' by Bridget Collins. Omg, I listened to it, but I want to reread it because I want to experience her way of telling and describing again in a more dept.
Watching this a little late and didn’t realize there would be a book review. I loved it! Added several of your suggestions to my queue. I too just bought a simple Kindle paperwhite because I wanted to stay off social media after having my little boy. One book I highly recommend is Night Bitch by Rachel Yoder. Being a working momma to a boy you might relate and enjoy. It’s creative and artsy. Another is Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. I would give Project Hail Mary a 5 since I laughter out load during many parts of the book! Take care.
Just found you today and have binge watched a few of your videos. Haven’t been reading, but need to. Currently working on a new dishcloth by The Kitchen Sink Shop. It’s for a year-long make along that she’s done for three years now. Also working on a blanket that’s taken me years to finish. All of my blankets are crocheted. Almost time for Sock Week with Knitty Natty of Love In Stitches. That starts on the 9th and ends on the 16th. Take care. I’ll be enjoying more of your videos. Your little boy is adorable!💙💙
I LOVE the stripes you're doing on your Kinsan and I'm already thinking about how to do something similar! Maybe I just need to match you!! Loved catching up with you ❤
Happy to see you're doing well and now have a studio space! I'm sure that makes the work-life balance a lot easier to manage. I think the way you structure your videos is great! I show up for the knitting and stay for the book talk, lol. As others mentioned some of the images didn't appear, but it's all good. Technical difficulties happen. Though I mostly crochet, I've been learning to knit and this month I'm taking on my first official knitting project, yay! It's a self drafted cowl to be gifted as a present at the end of Feb. Looking forward to the next video! 💚
I just found your podcast and I really enjoyed the book portion as well. This is the second or third time I've heard about 'When Women Were Dragons', so I will be adding it to my reading list. Thank you!
I enjoyed your book chat because I’ve hardly read a book for years; I find the internet and social media absorbs so much of me unfortunately. I would like to read more books (or any book lol). I have a book by my bed but I have been going to bed too late for reading! I am swatching for a test knit for Yu vest!
Hi! I really enjoy your podcasts, and the book updates are great! I’m going to Japan later this spring, and would love to know about your favorite shops/stops when it comes to knitting, especially in Tokyo. If you would like to share in an upcoming video it would be fun (but I really get it if you don’t have the time!). Thanks for this creative channel!❤🧶
I read all the Promised Neverland manga series !! It was very very good. I do recommend to read the manga first before you watch the anime though. There are big differences and some parts of the story are just left behind.
Ahh such a wonderful episode as always - I love the long ones. Tiff T has such cool patterns and I hadn’t heard of her before, so thank you so much for the rec! And you know we’re always here for the book chat, I still can’t quite believe you much knitting and reading you manage to squeeze in around looking after Evi and running your own business 😂 superwoman!
I've heard interesting things about Japanese culture and it's very appealing to me (things like people keeping the public spaces clean, people naturally isolating from others when they're sick, and now people trying not to disturb other people on the train - and I imagine it must be like that in other places). It seems like Japanese culture is a lot about respecting other people and I love that. I love quiet and peace and, unfortunately, I find a lot of people here are very noisy, disrespectful and "me first". For example: When people are outside, they're speaking so loudly and sometimes playing loud music so I don't wanna be outside anymore. It's like they think a fence between our backyards acts as a soundproof wall 🙄 Also, people used to go to work or family dinners even if they were sick (fortunately, COVID has made that a lot less frequent but a lot of people don't seem to care), they play unnecessary loud music in their car or headphones so everyone can hear, they argue in public, they're impolite, they leave their trash everywhere, etc. I don't like our culture here. It's not for me. I'm guessing you don't see that a lot in Japan (?) BTW, I'm impressed by how many books you read. That's a lot!
I love the book talk. So many good suggestions! I'm glad the new studio is working out so well and that you got your book mojo back! Can't wait for the shop update on Sunday as well!
Also, if you want a grimdark fantasy book recommendation, I love and am rereading currently Joe Abercrombie's books. If you want just a taste of his style, he has a short story book that is excellent and it is set in the same word with some of the same characters as his main adult aged books. It is called Sharp Ends. I highly recommend this first trilogy The First Law trilogy in particular though it you want to try something heftier!
I don’t know if this will help or not if you use a light for podcasting make sure it’s just above the height of your eyes and if you use a window turn just so you are not facing it dead on p.s. this doesn’t bother me at all I just know from playing around with it ❤
Im with you on strange the dreamer. The setup for the second book was tooooooo much. I enjoyed the beginning of the book a lot but i think it kinda faded out towards the end a bit...
