How nice to hear you enjoy Laura Child mysteries--her tearoom series is the best! I've read every one and eagerly await her next ones. BTW, we were just in Charleston where we visited the Charleston Tea Garden--she mentioned it in more than one of her books. We also stopped at a highlighted shop (The French Mercantile) which you mentioned in one of your videos featuring Charleston. I brought home some lovely'treasures' from that stop. Jacques the cat met us on the porch. PS we also had afternoon tea at the Gryphon--what a delight!

There is a new mystery series that I recommend, The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden. I read the first two books (the first book was great!) and there is a third book in the series that is being released next month. I’m currently reading The Teacher by the same author. I so enjoyed seeing the cards and stationary! My hobby is mixed media art so I love all things paper. Yesterday, I picked up a children’s book from our neighborhood Little Free Library called Brother Sun Sister Moon just because the artwork is beautiful! Looking forward to watching your vintage cookbook video after work today, I have a small collection myself. Love your channel!

Just home from traveling and sat down to TWO Relatively Refined videos! Paula we are truly kindred spirits. I love paper....I have a drawerful of cards and stationery in my desk as I love to write notes to people. It is becoming a lost art. I am also a fan of Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot. I often listen to audio books on You Tube as I drift off to sleep and my favorites are Hugh Fraser reading Poirot and Joan Hickson reading Miss Marple. I just finished a book I think you would like, The Frozen River by Ariel Lawson. It is about a Midwife in Maine in the late 1700s. It is a bit of a mystery as well. Happy Reading this Summer!

Tea and books are right up my alley. A commenter from the UK mentioned clotted cream and jam with scones and my heart swooned! I usually read non-fiction but I think it’s time to read more fiction as an escape so I appreciate all the reviews. I’m currently reading Doris Kearny Goodwin’s new book An Unfinished Love Story. Loved the video!

One of my favorite authors to re-read has always been Gladys Taber. I just enjoy the home spun take on life and the thought of a gentle rural lifestyle. And dogs lots of dogs. My favorite childhood book was little Men even more then little Women. I would spend hours reading it out loud to my little sister, at her request. The lost art of the written letter and the beautiful stationary that went with it is sad. This is fun and a thought and memory provoking video. Thanks so much. Happy summer to you all.

Love the reading suggestions Paula!! Agatha Christie is my all time favorite author and Poirot is my favorite detective. I didn't know Understood Betsy and I'm reading it now and it is so sweet. I definitely suggest that you read the complete works of Sherlock Holmes. They're so well written it's hard to believe they were written so long ago. I love the MC Beaton Agatha Raisin series also for cozy mysteries. They have a lot of humor. The TV series with Ashley Jensen is very cute as well. Additionally I think Ann Cleeves' books are very well written mysteries. I also enjoyed The Maid by Nina Prose. Just a few suggestions. Happy reading! 🙂

Although I’m not a mystery reader I do love pretty graphics. Your note cards are beautiful. I also love the Victoria and Tea Time magazine and look forward to them in the mail. And of course I love all things connected with tea, especially pretty vignettes.

If you have not read the Miss Julia series I think you would like them. Author is Ann B. Ross and the first in the series is Miss Julia Speaks her mind. These are set in Hendersonville NC and have a great sense of humor to them. There is always a mystery to unravel, although not usually a murder.

Bonjour Paula, je suis comme toi, lire un Agatha Christie me donne toujours envie de boire un thé. Mais également la série policière anglaise :"Inspecteur Barnaby. Ce sont les ambiances dans les livres ou dans la série. Mon héros préféré d'Agatha est Poiret, même si il est belge, qui semble plus anglais que les anglais 😄. You will like Patrick Taylor’s Irish Country Doctor series. Not mysteries but very good. Also Carlene O’Conner Irish murder mystery series.

Thanks so much! I also thought the flower was a pansy. It was labeled violet on the card which may have referred to the color! There are also little violets called Johnny Jump Uos that look like mini pansies so maybe that’s what that was?! But I had the same reaction as you - lol! I’ve not read the series you mention, but I love Rhys Bowen and so will look for it to try! Thank you!!🥰

You are one of the few people who uses "enamored" correctly as you said it is "enamored of" most people say enamored with. Yes it is a silly picky thing I always notice, blame my left sided Virgo Brain, haha. I love all of your videos and would enjoy seeing the teas in your shop. I love curling up in front of the fire on a wintry day with an Agatha Christie book. Like you, I love reading mystery books and Agatha Christie is definitely my favourite author in this genre. I just finished the book The Midnight Library and really loved it! It's not a mystery but definitely worth a read. I imagine you have read the Goldy Schultz Culinary Mysteries by Diane Mott Davidson? They are really fun and since she is a caterer, the books are sprinkled with wonderful recipes :)

Thank you, Paula, for this video! I loved the trip to the stationery store. I can spend hours in such places, perusing the beautiful papers and pens. And bookmarks! Oh my, so many lovely ones to choose from. I must confess, I have an obsession, placing them in all of my cookbooks and in every other book that I often refer to...pretty AND practical. The cards you chose are so pretty. I'm sure your friend will love the painterly "pansy" 😉. There is a wonderful cozy mystery author here in Canada, Louise Penny, whose novels have won numerous awards in North America and abroad. I'm sure you'd enjoy her Inspector Gamache series. Paula, this video was so enjoyable and different! I have been an Agatha Christie's fan since the age of 12 when I read my first novel by her. When I lived overseas, I was able to get to London rather often and on one of those visits I went to the theater to see "The Mousetrap". I understand it's been playing for over 100 years now. I also love stationary, and like buying notecards and writing paper whenever I can. I just called the library and they are holding the "Marple" book for me. Thank you so much for this lovely video on this dark and rainy day. Just so appropriate to read a Ms. Marple mystery! Looking forward to more videos like this. Happy Mother's Day!!

I grew up in Dorset, Vermont and in the summer would usher at the Dorset Play House so I could see the plays for free. I can remember one summer that the theater company performed Mousetrap! I know you can't 'judge a book by it's cover' , however, I'm loving the new covers on the classics. The cards and stationery inspire me as I have always loved to mail letters and send via 'snail mail' the old fashioned way. I'll have to add Agatha Christie's books to my summer reading list (the list is long!!). At the time I'm finishing up The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles and recently The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah and up next is The Women also by Kristin Hannah. Tea, a homemade baked treat, a good book - and a rainy day = perfect! Thank you, Paula - another great video!
