Here in Germany it’s custom to change into slippers or “house shoes” at the front door. We have extra house shoes for guests or when we call on friends and family we take our slippers with us. Keeps the house clean and feels cosy! x
I love this! Does it ever become inconvenient when you forget things as your leaving? I have to go back into the house at least three times before I actually leave 😆 so would you take your shoes off everytime?
Definitely remove shoes in the house. When I worked in the microbiology lab, the most microbe filled objects were shoes and purses. They were MUCH worse than cell phones, door handles and even bathrooms. Have a great Fall season!
Re: removing shoes in the house, totally normal and keeps your home much cleaner. In Canada we remove our outdoor shoes immediately in our own homes and everyone else’s too, all 4 seasons as well.
Yes to the no shoes inside the house! I grew up in a Hispanic household and never understood why my mom made me take my shoes off!! I used to work at at frozen yogurt shop and little kids would have accidents or even throw up outside the store and people would pass by it!! Then the thought of them going home and wearing shoes in the house made me really sick haha. Now I’m a firm believer in no shoes inside 🤪
In Canada where I live everyone I know does no does in the house. Have the shoe rack at the door like you set up today. We also have a little basket of slippers near the door ✨
Allison, I love my yard and landscaping and you have inspired me to try some gardening, too! I love how you have welcomed Autumn and filled me with lots of inspiration from all your Fall videos. I grew up wearing “NO shoes in the house”, and I have continued that throughout my lifetime. I like the idea of leaving “the world” outside and keeping my home fresh and clean. It truly helps to quickly slip off my shoes as I enter the back door. I have always been barefoot and free inside. I don’t even need slippers or socks, unless the temperatures fall so low they are needed. Your soup bread bowls looked wonderful! I tried a stuffed pepper stew last week and I am definitely ready for all the chili and stew recipes I can find! Great video! Blessings! TFS

For the past two years, my family and I have implemented that rule of no outside shoes in our house, and definitely no shoes at all in any bedrooms that have carpet. It is the best thing! The floors stay so much more cleaner, you don't feel too gross stepping on floor because we only use house slippers. I def recommend! :) Love your videos btw! Regarding shoes in the house, my parents were from Europe so we always had a no outside shoes in the house rule. We wear slippers in the house. I like the idea of no shoes in the house cause it definitely seems more sanitary and like the would keep the floors cleaner. But I have an indoor/outdoor dog and I’ve always wondered how to handle it with guests.

Pacific Northwesterner here- we have designated slippers, slides, etc for inside. Otherwise the mud, rain, and so on would get everywhere! If we have guests I don’t tell them they have to take their shoes off, they can if they’re comfortable. Most do. I just clean after they leave no matter what so it doesn’t bother me much.

In europe we all have ,,inside schoes" even to elementary and high school you have to bring your own slippers. I always loved it, because my feet didn't stink after whole day in school. I personally own some fancy cozy fluffy slipper for fall/chritmas season but throuout the year I have cute othopedic ones which is so healthy. Aspecially children wears those orthopedic slippers (we call them ,,dreváky") so here is not very common to have ,,flat feet" which prevents us from back pain and other complications... I really recommend to look them up, they are lifechanger 😊
I have a dedicated pair of shoes for only in the house. I can’t wear slippers all day as they have no support. I love my Hey Dudes, they are the best for comfort ❤️

Hi Allison, I stopped wearing shoes in my home ever since I had my first baby 32 years ago and she started crawling on the floors. We became a No shoes in the house household!! You are so right, because when you think of what you walk on outside, there are so many germs on the bottom of our shoes!! From men constantly spitting on the ground. To feces from animals to public bathrooms and what is on the floor around the toilet areas, to even pesticides we pick up on our shoes and bring back in our homes. Our floors stay so much cleaner, and everyone's shoes come off at the door!!
No outside shoes in my home. Same as you, after I really thought about it, I couldn't keep wearing my outside shoes around my home. And for guests you can buy slippers, I get them from Amazon in packs, they are just like spa slippers, and keep them by the front door. For any workers, you can keep booties that they can put over their shoes 👍
Canadian here, we never wear shoes in the house. I’ve never understood the concept on why people wear outdoor shoes in their house and walk all over the place with dirty foot ware. Just grosses me out lol we wear slippers and if I’m going to someone’s house I usually bring a pair of slippers with me! Love your videos!💗🍂🎃

At my front door area I have a basket of flip flops and slippers for guests to wear, if they’d like. Otherwise, they can wear their socks. They are invited to take them home with them when they leave. I replace them later. My grandchildren keep their slippers here and know to put them on upon entering.
I’ve grown up with a shoe-free household and I do feel like it keeps things cleaner! Its traditional to not wear outside shoes in the house in Indian culture. We keep most of our shoes in the garage 😊

I live in an apartment & the carpeting is in such rough shape I often feel it's not worth changing shoes, but I guess I shouldn't make it worse. When it rains our parking lot becomes an oil slick with all the leaky cars so on those days I don't. I like the idea of a seasonal activity list. I'm fortunate to live in a place with 4 distinct seasons & find the cooler temps of fall to be invigorating.
The Secret Garden is one of my all time favorites! A classic! I recently gave a copy to my neighbor who has the most beautiful garden beds I can see from my front door. She loves the book as I knew she would! I jokingly said I expected a book report. I love it when you share your books along with everything else Allison! 🌸
No outside shoes indoors. Growing up, my family would use slippers or flip flops indoors. Now I live on my own and I've kept that habit. I have slides for guests, so they can change to those or walk around in socks. I don't like the idea of walking around in socks but some people do so I make sure to sweep/vacuum and mop my place everytime guests are coming over.

A little late, but I've been catching up on videos and I can say, as a Romanian, the whole 'outside shoes in the house' is a custom I first saw on Disney Channel lol. We definitely change, either into slippers or stay in our socks/barefoot. I'd say the only instance when we go inside with ours shoes on is when we are about to go out and we've forgotten something thats close by
I have always taken off our shoes in the home. The bottom of shoes carry a lot of germs. Also, we change our clothes also. Especially if been sitting in restaurants, movies etc. I have been doing this for over 25 years.

I live in Canada and honestly it’s surprising that you guys down in the USA actually wear outdoor shoes in side! Lol it keeps the house so much cleaner and that way as well you can be comfy with slippers or fuzzy socks inside

In Canada we don't wear shoes in the house. Living in the US for over 25 years we do now but I will say when I had babies and they were going to be crawling on the floor no one could wear shoes in my house down here.

Here in Canada, we absolutely do not wear outdoor shoes inside! I have indoor slippers / slides but people always remove their outdoor shoes at the front door. I also feel like it keeps the floors clean! I always found it interesting how a lot of people in the states wear their shoes inside!
Also Canadian but I lived in New Jersey for a few years and knew next to no one who wore shoes in the house but whenever I travelled to California or Flordia I found it to be more commonplace. Aside from culture and personal preferences, I think climate has a lot to do with it.
We don't use shoes inside but when guests come they can. I would like in the future to have some slippers to offer as they come in but for now, it's ok because we vacuum every other day and when we have guests we vacuum/wash the floors

From Asia here, no shoes in the house is basically what we grow up with and its an automatic kinda of thing. Wearing a in house slippers depends though as some part of South East Asia are hot as hell so unless you have the air-condition in the house, most of us don't wear them.
Always shoes off inside the home, you don't want to be bringing the outside dirt inside your home. Think about all the places you go outside and step on (public restrooms) and just the thought of bringing all that dirt/germs inside is a no go! lol plus no shoes in the house give you a reason to buy cute slippers and fuzzy socks! Just makes your home feel cleaner when you don't wear shoes inside :)
