cozy reading vlog: I read fourth wing.... and hated it lol

Yeah same. I did cave in and read piranesi which I liked but most of booktok is romance/fantasy/ya and that’s kinda the opposite of what I read anyway so why would I like it? It’s the same thing with bestseller lists. Just because a lot of people bought it doesn’t mean it’s actually good. It also doesn’t help if you meet the people who like these books because I have had an interesting experience with a Colleen Hoover fan that well let’s just say proved my point.

I read only fantasy and enjoyed it, it’s a fun book that’s quick to read. People can enjoy LOTR and Fourth wing at the same time.

honestly the romance was so disappointing that i dont get the all this love even just for the romance either😩

It’s interesting because in my experience the book is praised heavily on booktok and bookstagram but most of the fantasy-leaning booktubers that I watch mostly dislike it. There’s a pattern there, I think.

@@marthabrick7123but Babel isn’t an issue if quality of writing and world building, and I can see both sides, I understand the people who like and those who don’t. THIS makes no sense to me, the writing is awful and the world building is so bad that what I remember the most are the plot holes.

@@melodykim5865see to me that’s normal, I read a lot of fantasy and fantasy romance, and most of the time when FR ends up in the hands of a purely fantasy reviewers I expect them to not like it. But within the FR reviewers there will still be a mix of reviews. This was sold to me by people who read fantasy and *hated* ACOTR!!!

Yeah, I DNFed it and I typically feel weird reviewing books I DNFed, so I do wonder how many people are in our boat.

That’s what I did too. I knew pretty quickly that it wasn’t for me and DNFed it. My TBR is too long to waste time reading books I won’t enjoy

Yes, very quickly DNF'd. The writing was so juvenile and amateur. I just cringed every time there was dialogue.

Yes - I read just the first bit on Amazon & blurb about it and just wasn't compelled to purchase it. I feel vindicated now. lol

Ditto lol... I feel like this book is a good litmus test if a reviewer has similar taste as me... or WILDLY different 🤣

All the booktubers I love have slowly been releasing videos with their thoughts on it and they're relatively the same, now I trust their opinions even more 😂

I wrote a review stating my thoughts similar to yours and have received literally so much hate :’) people are clawing at high fantasy dragons but I honestly was so disappointed with this book

Exactly how I feel about fourth wing. Is this the best written book out there? Absolutely not. But did I instantly gave it 5 stars? Yes.😂

Okay yes this is exactly how I felt!!!! Like the writing was not great but I definitely was invested to see how everything will play out. I have a feeling the 2nd book is gonna be much better given what we learned at the end.

Yes I literally thought I would hate it - there are moments the writing yanked me out of the scene with cringe but I could not put it down and was SOO invested. I can’t explain it.

@@PeruseProject I’m heavily in an SJM and JLA state at present, but my favorite of all time is Radiance by Grace Draven. (I actually enjoy all of the Wraith Kings series.) There are some others that I really enjoyed, but in all honestly the writing is atrocious but the story and the characters are fun. 😂😂 I did really like the Ember in the Ashes series, and I’m hearing good things about everything Rebecca Ross writes. (Goodreads won’t load for me so I’m having to go off the top of my head.🙈) If you want historical, have you heard of/read the Veronica Speedwell series by Deanna Raybourn or the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters? This one is extremely backlist but they’re fun Egyptology based mysteries with romance in them. Also, I know you enjoy middle grade as well, so I’d like to put The Extremely Inconvenient Adventures of Bronte Meddlestone on your radar. I’m enjoying it immensely.

@@PeruseProject Also, I apologize if that came off sounding offended. I wasn’t. I just felt bad that you’d wasted time on something you didn’t enjoy. There are a few people who it was sent to by publishers and I was thinking “have you done your research at all? This is definitely not a good match for this person.” The hype train was real and there are a lot who’ve read it and hated it, but they don’t say because fandoms are crazy and attack people. Lol. Not every book is for every reader and that’s what makes it interesting. Our reading tastes seem to be pretty different a lot of the time, but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying your videos, reviews, and recommendations.😊 For me, it was exactly what I wanted it to be and what I needed. My father-in-law passed away after a long 2 years of illness and my reading this year has been almost non-existent. To date I’ve only read 40 books, which is very low for me. SJM, JLA and Fourth Wing have given me the escape I needed with characters I could root for, and care about without overtaxing my brain. I’m now reading The Way of Kings and loving it.

Ngl this is exactly how I felt with Leigh Bardugo too, the pacing of the chapters mafe SoC insufferable to me. Can't imagine how painful it would be if the writing style itself was even clunkier like with this one...

I read about 80 books a year and I enjoyed this 🤷🏻‍♀️ totally understand why others wouldn’t, but why not attribute the rating to people liking different things instead of implying they are not as knowledgeable as you…

@@fercarcolin I said “I think” and “some”. There’s obviously a variety of reasons why a book is going to appeal to some and not others. It has been my observation that certain authors appeal more to people who don’t read as much variety. It has nothing to do with knowledge, just experience.

Okay I’m back, having finished. I really liked it, lol. I agree with everything you’re saying and it read much younger than i typically like. Still, i just really..liked it??? Idk. 4 stars for me and I definitely will be reading Iron Flame.

Just finished your vlog. I agree with most of what you said! Looking at some other books from the author looks like a lot of romance writing and not so much fantasy. The MC behaved very YA for most of the book but the spice was very adult. That part was a weird dichotomy for me
